I'm a fashion designer used to using a sketchbook for play and exploring design ideas, yet in my journey to being more artistic outside of fashion design I have this idea that my sketchbook needs to be full of perfect pieces. Which is crazy! Thank you for sharing these books - a great reminder to play more. Also, that last book is gorgeous, I may have to grab that one!

I'm so glad to hear my video was helpful! It's in large part the nature of the world we live in today that makes us feel like imperfection doesn't measure up and that time for play is time 'wasted' when the opposite is true! 💛

@@ArtySubu absolutely! Also, I went to order the textile sketchbook - Amazon tells me I ordered it in 2006, so I’ll have to see if it’s in storage at my parents! 😍

Thank you! It's always fun to see inspirational books and sketchbook tours. I added one of those to my get-list. Your personal books are wonderful. I love how you tend to use them for exploration for your next project. Wonderful! My books are a mish-mash of everyday stuff, trips, or random thoughts,. Basically whatever is going on in my life. A couple of decades ago I started my first one to practice learning how to use watercolors. After that I filled them with practice paintings and sketches and once in a while small collages. When my grandchildren would come to visit the first thing they wanted to do was to look through G-ma's books. They loved going through them and it was then that I realized that once I'm gone they will be fighting over who gets to keep them. It was then that I decided to include much more in my books. Basically, they are my visual diary with sketches of places I've been with notes about that place, recipes with illustrations of the process, sketches of family of friends, stories about my life, illustrated thoughts about politics and the pandemic, etc. I wish I had inherited books like these from my ancestor. That would have been awesome to learn about what their life was like back in the day.

Your visual-diary/sketchbooks sound wonderful! What an amazing legacy to leave to your descendants. It would be interesting to include some of your own childhood memories perhaps? I know those are the stories I love hearing from my grandmother and especially since it was nearly a century ago (she's 101!!). Thanks for watching! Which book did you want to get?

@@ArtySubu loved the jewelry book that also had squares of fabrics in wonderful colors with spots on them, was that paint or bleach, plus another fabric that look like it had asemic writing. Stunning. The books were also great. ❤

Oh brilliant! The spots were hot soy wax... I did a pseudo-batik technique to create them. And the others too... Applying hot wax with a brush, then the dye over the top in layers. Have you tried any textile art?

@@ArtySubu Not yet. But have been watching videos on mix media, gelli printing & textiles & slow stitching. Was trying bleach with stamps, stencils on black paper & fabric (denim). Plus there are inks that react to bleach. There are two black inks that react to bleach, one turns a turquoise and the other turns sort of copper, reminds me of Daniel Smiths Aussie. T red gold. Those fabrics with spots would make gorgeous scarves or wraps.❤

This sounds amazing!!! A lot of fun to be had with experimentation. I did actually make a whole "Galaxy" collection of scarves and ties, all sold now though I kept some for myself.
