Take a look at the underground world of this fox family.
The video shows mama fox moving one of the kits in, in the middle of the night, and we then explore the inside of the den and watch the 4 kits playing. They liked to sleep all piled up inside the hollow log entryway and then they made the main area of the den their playground. There's lots of space there for little ones to run around.
The parent foxes know this den is a safe place for their youngsters - coyotes can't get in - and they use it every year. When the adult foxes are not inside with their little ones they usually keep watch outside in the playpen area.

The hollow log makes a great entry tunnel. Big enough for foxes and raccoons, but too small for coyotes.

They really are beautiful. And so graceful. We love seeing the foxes. Not as curious as the raccoons, though - the raccoons will explore absolutely everything. Take a look at this video: texasbackyardwildlife.com/87123-2/ About once a week a raccoon squeezes itself into this hollow-log bird box and then has to struggle for 5 mins to get out. It's very funny, but one of these days we'll have to stage a rescue mission, I fear.

The foxes do seem to tolerate urban life and adapt to it quite well, don't they? Maybe the pluses (scavengeable food sources, water, fewer predators) outweigh the negatives (cars, hostile humans, big dogs). It surprises us how well the foxes fit in. And we agree, they're smart and they have a sense of fun. An excellent way to put it.

That deadening of the nerves helps guard them from the onslaught of defensive attacks of their prey. Thank you for this channel and the videos. @@TexasBackyardWildlife I can promise you that coyotes will be far ahead of humans as far as predator on the foxes. And as bobcat increase you will notice a drop in foxes. Your state fish and game should have accurate info. I hope they remain ok. Nature is a tough go.

@TexasBackyardWildlife Жыл бұрын
Nature is tough. You're right, and you're also right that coyotes have an impact of fox populations, but here in the city, rat poison seems to be one of the primary killers. People poison rats and then foxes, ringtails, owls, bobcats, etc etc eat the rats and die. We've found several. It's tragic.

@@TexasBackyardWildlife sad to hear. Poison is never good. They need to use a safer way of rat control. I took 65 out of a commercial building using steel traps. They wouldn't come near baited rat traps. The previous people were trying with rat traps and may have smartness them up.

Crab apples. That's surprising - they're quite sour. They eat our native persimmons here, and they will pick up apple cores when we toss them out for everyone to eat. @@TexasBackyardWildlife My parents who now live in England, keep their garden as natural as possible which has not only led to them having the greatest variety of birds, insects and plants, but they also have a fox den in the back which is regularly occupied although the current fox has not turned up in a few months now. We are concerned because my mum would give it dog treats which has led to the fox sitting close bywhen my parents have their coffee in the garden. My mother does not intend to domesticate it though. No cuddling or feeding as such. Only a few goodies in the evening and lots of photos. We are hopeful that the Fox (a female) might be busy with offspring. If you like I will keep you up to date as soon as Ihear something new. I have sent your link to my mother. She will be curious about how the Foxes house underground.

We really hope that your mother's fox shows up again. We love seeing the foxes in our yard, and we know the individuals (most of the time) and worry when they don't come around. The same applies to the other animals. Please do stay in touch and let us know if the fox reappears? You can email us at texasbackyardwildlife@gmail.com. There's a den with 3 big kits up on our live-stream at the moment. They are fun to watch. I lived in London for 20 years and used to occasionally see foxes trotting along quite busy streets, which always amazed me.

We're editing for a new video at the moment that shows kits so little they don't even fully have their eyes open and they're fighting. Amazing. And yet we never see the adults fight. I guess it's all practice for hunting.

We have a new fox family on our live stream. Mama plus 3 tiny little kits (in a different den). They just arrived today. Mama is asleep with her back to the camera at the moment but we hope she will wake up soon. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mpadoZp1r5mbnmw.html

I live in Pennsylvania near 2 large ponds. I feed the foxes a large bowl of small milkbones (for dogs) . The food is gone, daily. They are red foxes, but the pups are on the beige side....at least for now. Your video is ASTONISHING
