I’m currently trying out OTC hearing aids. This video was very informative. One suggestion however: I listened to this video thru my hearing aids (Bluetooth connection to my phone). When I adjusted the volume for optimal listening of the speaking portion, I found the beginning and ending music portions way too loud. The ending portion volume was so loud I had to immediately stop the video. You may want to check the decibel level balance between the music and the speaking voice in your future videos. Thanks!

Great job at explaining the difference between the OTC and Prescription HA. I have a mild hearing loss and I’m tech savvy, so I opted for a middle ground choice, a Telehealth hearing aid. These Lively aids provide me with a new sense of awareness in all situations. Hiking outdoors with reduced wind noise or in a restaurant in which those at my table are being heard by me and tv watching is fun again. When and if these units fail to meet my needs I will seek a prescriptive route. Finally, keep these informative videos coming out. They have lead me to a very satisfied life of clarity and understanding again.

I have a mild hearing loss diagnosed by an ENT at a NYC teaching hospital. Testing diagnosed a mild hearing loss and a hearing aid was recommended. Since my hearing loss was only mild, I deferred prescription hearing aids costing several thousand dollars each. I am a physician with access to hearing follow up but I could not justify the cost. Over the years my hearing loss got a bit worse. I was going to see an audiologist in NY when i saw an interesting add for a nationally well known brand of hearing aids. But when I looked into them, the practitioner stated they only have lifetime follow up if I paid without insurance. I lose that included lifetime follow up if insurance is used. So I looked into OTC hearing aids. I bought BOSE B1 aids which work great. I really like them. If my hearing loss becomes severe fine, I can get prescription aids. OTCs got a stubborn physician to get a hearing aid. They will eventually get more people to get aids who need them.

My dad has a little bit more than mild hearing loss, he got prescribed hearing aids and after a few weeks he didn't find them effective and they never were clear enough for him. He said he heard a lot of other sounds. I don't know if it was him just being him but he lost one and doesn't want a replacement if the same kind. So here I am doing research. We went with what we thought was the top way but here we are looking online and watching reviews.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I suffer from Moderate to Severe hearing loss (High end is almost no existant) I started with OTC and thought they were great, UNTIL I moved to a prescribed Phonak. The difference was unbelievable. Hearing and like "Seeing" is totally different. I wear glasses and it is easy to know when they need cleaning or replacing. If I cannot see something I know it!!!! But not so with hearing. As mentioned I have severe hearing loss on the high frequency spectrum. It frustrates me when I "see" sound (symbols being hit in a rock video) but cannot hear them. Or seeing that the turn single indicator is still flashing, but not being able to hear it. I have since moved on to Oticons More 1's. I still think they need a little tweaking, but truly, a whole new world of sound as opened up. There is no way I will ever go down the OTC road again. Oh I did not mention that have bad tinnintis.

This was fantastic information. Im just had a hearing exam and then a big sales pitch about buying hearing aids that were in the thousands of dollars.Obviously, I'm looking into OTC hearing aids but you say there is no follow-up with OTC.

This may be silly but I am curious, my daughter has a hearing aid that she sticks a box on her head it stays by magnet under her skin, it was surgical both the surgery and the hearing aid is really expensive. I saw a vid that you did on bone conducting headphones , a friend of mine let me try his and i can hear more at lower volume than my skullcandy over the ear , I have phonak hearing aids but they are 7 yrs old and dont really do anything for me, do they make hearing aids like the bone conducting headphones ?

Simple fact is the FDA pretty much takes the words of the companies. That’s why thousands of FDA approved products get removed yearly.

Most annoying question I get because I wear BTE prescription and people ask me what store I brought them from and have to explain to them there's different degrees of hearing aids. They need to go to the audiologist because I'm no doctor. My mother tried to tell me to get otc knowing I'm moderately severe hearing lost 😑😑

I've worn h.aidsfor years, severe h.loss and major tinnitus. OTCs definitely will have their place but fitting of hearing aids can be tricky. In my case tweaks, adjustments need to be made in the beginning and you need h. Aid pro that has the expertise in making needed adjustments happen. You can't get that with OTCs.

Check out Signia brand called “Styletto” SLIM RIC. I’m selling them because they are so cool and do not have the look that carries the stigma of 🦻🏻👵🏻👴🏼 I’m showing these today to a patient who’s rejected aids for the very reason you mentioned and he’s 73 yrs young. I travel the Hawaiian islands helping people hear better. Hope you check out the style. Wear them proudly but don’t get the flesh toned color. Two other pts of mine are younger men and they both chose Styletto in the Black/Graphite color. I wore them in black/silver and while traveling people asked what I do so I’d pop them out of my ear and show them saying “I help people hear better!” They loved the look of these. Best to you!

Prescripción hearing aids so far don't let you hear natural sounds. I have one that cost me a Lot of money and sounds like somebody speaking to me through a small can.
