At the risk of sounding juvenile... : BEST. MUSIC. EVER.

Simplicité n'est pas naïveté. Je viens d'écouter ce lied par les plus grandes dames, et je découvre Harteros à l'instant. Tout est là! Les mots justement prononcés, les notes bien rondes, le phrasé élégant, le style, et la modestie en plus. Pour parfaire l'émotion, ce qu'il nous faudrait, c'est un chef plus inspiré que celui-ci. Mais Harteros est incontestablement une grande interprète de ce lied qui en a fait trébucher plus d'une, et des grandes....!

Wonderful Rendition

Instead of slagging each other off, some of these people should just relax and listen to Strauss's beautiful music. I am sometimes not much of a fan of new singers, but ever since I heard this one I've thought she was very fine indeed. I think Charlotte Margiono might be the best for me, but for some people it's Jessye Norman or someone else. As long as we don't get the popera people thinking they can sing this, we are safe.

everybody on here writes about the singers and how they compare to eachother. why??? listen to the beautiful music..music composed by a genius and everybody , no mater what name...popp, norman, janowitz, price, schwarzkopf etc....they all sing with beautiful voices and emotions. listen to the music and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Die vier letzten Lieder von Richard Strauss liebe ich sehr und Anja Harteros noch viel mehr. Seit ihrer „Elsa“ im Münchner „Lohengrin“ ist sie für mich jedes Jahr „Sängerin des Jahres“. Auch die Dokumentation „Wie ein Lichter Fluss“ möchte ich gern noch einmal sehen. Für die „Elsa“ zum ersten Mal in AaBayreuth wünsche ich Anja viel Erfolg und alles Gute - leider ohne Jonas Kaufmann? 🌹❤️🎶💕🌷

Wonderful performance. Unique among others in that it is the most effortless in tempi, the flow of the music is so natural! Richly instrumentated, but it must be simple, without any mannerism, and being artificial. Thank you!

Beautiful. What an artist. Love her in Verdi - but there's something really special about her Strauss singing. And no. Strauss doesn't have to be lush and Wagnerian ! (though I do love Norman's recording too)

It is such a beautiful piece. This is great, not surprising coming from Jansons. The Solti with Kiri, also on youtube, is very different but also beautiful. Much quicker.

Singing is not a football game. Even losing teams do theirr best, wether it is offence or defence. Every player is not the same as players of equal position. Just sit back and enjoy the perfomance. They all give it their best.

For all who are arguing, they should listen to the renditions given by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Lucia Popp, or even by Gundula Janowitz, and their breathing technique! This young lady is not bad at all...

Wonderful. singing. A bit too slow.

C'est pas compliqué la beauté : il suffit de chanter simplement. Jansons n'est pas mal.

molto bello questo grande soprano che conosco poco...questo lied mi piace un pò più rapido e meriterebbe una direzione d'orchestra più appasionata, più calda; se no, ci si addormenta....qui ci vedo bebe un Georges Pretre con la Hateros :)

La version Sawallisch, grand straussien devant l'éternel et désormais à sa droite, méritait tous les éloges pour son classicisme assumé. En plus, elle comblait, avec M Price, une plaie béante dans la discographie de cette oeuvre. La version Jansons est belle, mais surprenante: on dirait que le chef veut faire sobre. Je n'ai pas les mots, mais c'est comme "baroquisé", blanchi, neutralisé... Il faut que je ré-écoute, certes, mais si on a peur des épanchements d'émotion, pourquoi jouer du Strauss?

A lovely performance, but not one of the greats.

Was ist mit dem Auftakt los? Er klingt, als ob das Orchester sich nicht einig wäre ob es spielen soll oder nicht. Das kennt man nicht von Jansons und seinem BR Sinfonieorchester. Und Frau Harteros ist keine begnadete Liedsängerin. Daß diese im Moment schmerzlich fehlt, macht den Einsatz von Harteros auch nicht besser. Doch lieber auf alte Aufnahmen mit den großen Liedsängern zurückgreifen.

Why singing that after Schwarzkopf ? Why ?

No offense, but ugh! This soprano has a small voice, and even trimming the orchestra down does not address the imbalance. It does, however, make the music less beautiful. Not competitive.
