MY STORY: Following many years of worsening health issues, I tried a low histamine diet after hitting rock bottom both mentally & physically- and it worked! So I started a blog (lowhistamineeats.com) documenting the recipes I made within my limited foods list, and eventually shared the research and diet plan I created & followed after the many doctors I saw were of little to no help. In the years since, I've started a Master's of Science degree in Nutrition and continued to share new recipes & info I uncover about the diet and the relatively unknown mast cell activation syndrome I was eventually diagnosed with.
DISCLAIMER: this is my personal research and diet information that I've followed as I've dealt with systemic inflammation the last several years. I am NOT a doctor, and you should always consult a medical professional before undertaking a change to your diet.

6:42 Thank you for the reviews, especially the sunflower seed protein powder. I've been trying to eat more plant-based proteins, and the protein powder you reviewed has been in my Amazon cart for a week while I tried to decide if it would be worth dropping $25 on something non-returnable that I've never tried. I think I'll try it.

I understand that! Definitely don't try anything you're truly worried about, but if you can afford the cost/risk and the reward of having a reliable protein powder would be worth it to you, then it sounds like a good option for you!

Love it! Many proteins I find online went through a vegetal fermentation process. These are out I guess?!

I think so, just because you can't always be sure of the length of fermentation and the bacteria involved, which can certainly affect the histamine content. However, you be able to get a more straightforward & accurate answer by reaching out tot hose companies directly.

Thank you so much for this video! One of my triggers is sunflower oil, (and pumpkin) but I know you mentioned people who have reactions to pumpkin are typically okay with the seeds, is this the same for sunflower seed vs oil? Thank you!

I can't make any medical advice, so this is just form research and personal experience, but yes generally people are fine with the seeds even if they don't do great weith specific oils. But if you're wary, always reintroduce slowly and take note of any reactions, and work with your physician whenever possible!

Ah, the protein powders. I found all of them, likely because they're concentrated protein sources, resulted in terrible GERD. Back to whole foods for me.

That sounds like it would be incredibly high in histamine, much like bone broths can be - proceed with great caution, or ideally skip it altogether, would be my opinion!

Peas are generally considered higher in histamine, even if it's a more pure one-ingredient product, but every body's tolerances are different - though personally, I'd stay away!

I'm actually heading back from my honeymoon shortly - I was trying to get a video up in April after taking a much-needed long break, but the materials didn't arrive in enough time for me to prepare sufficiently for the break from work & school, as well as shoot and edit everything as needed. I've been just adding a little quercetin & an antihistamine to my damn protein smoothie lol. Because before, the histamine would give me headaches and congestion. After adding a small amount of quercetin & antihistamine, i haven't been getting the bad headaches and congestion as bad

I'm not sure, sorry, but pea protein is widely considered high histamine, and generally seed-based protein powders are recommended first.

What are your thoughts on egg white protein?

Eggs whites are widely thought to be high in histamine when raw (and the avidin and block biotin absorbtion), though some say they're fine when cooked. I think that the powdered egg white protein powders are likely a potential trigger and should be avoided, but cooked eggs whites have been fine for me, and when they're from a farm-fresh source, are less likely to be contaminated and therefore dangerous. But as always, it's best to talk to your doctor about whta protein sources are safest and healthiest for your own unique biochemistry.

Soy is generally considered high histamine so, soy protein is quite widely off-diet.

Egg yolks are almost completely fat, but pea protein has been found to be generally higher in histamine (albeit yes, also high in protein).
