When you got stuck with the transmission problem, I loved how you turned a negative situation into a positive situation. I love channels like this because I can see things I'll probably never see in person and you make me feel like I'm there. Much respect and look forward to the next one.

First as a 77 year old man I very much agree with you about learning about your place in the world through travel. 25 years ago when I lived in Chicago I was a host for Servas, about 200 different people stayed in my small apartment over the 20 years I was a host. When I was in Europe in 1986 I stayed with other Servas hosts. The Jackery Explorer 1000 is pretty awesome but I can't justify the price. It costs more compared to it's competitors with the same capacity.

The Explorer 1000 could use another AC outlet. Having only three is really a bummer. Less things to plug in.

Eva's 2022 travel plan: if you're going to learn "the language" and travel for more than a year (if I heard it right), then my guess is you're going to Central and/or South America. That's the only continent with multiple countries that use the same language ... Spanish. (except for Brazil using Portuguese and a few more)

I absolutely agree with you on travel. There is a vacation and then there is TRAVELING! Relaxing on a beach at a resort/hotel would be easy and enjoyable of course, but I want to travel, even if it is hard and scary and unpredictable. A tip for your Defender Eva, When driving though water the hot bearings cool quickly causing negative pressure sucking in the water. Mine had this issue with rear wheel bearings. There is an after market conversion kit where the bearings will be oil lubricated from the diff and sealed tightly.

Whilst the Land Rover may not be the most reliable, it is sold across the world, has huge amount still on the road and can be serviced or repaired anywhere. So actually, its the perfect international vehicle!!

What's great about interacting with the people that live in a place that is different than where you've been before, is that they are in many ways the same as you. They want to be happy. They may want a family and a home and enough food and warmth and protection from bad people. But in many ways their food and their habits and so forth is different and that is the BEST part about truly traveling like you do! :)

Amazing! I love it! I travel 270 plus days a year for work. I live on the road and love it! I do fly a lot and would rather drive. Why? Because that is traveling! Travel does not mean vacation to me, it means exploring, adventuring and being spontaneous!!! You do such a great job of becoming part of the area you're in. Keep up the great content!

I’m convinced about the fact that traveling -and especially slow travels- is an essential tool to observe, to learn and to understand the world and its diverse civilisations around us. Your trip reminds me of the summer of 97. I drove my truck from Arizona to Alaska and back camping out the entire entire time and checking out all the sites and scenery along the way. What a journey that was.

I believe you should be able to sit upright in the back of a Defender (if you are not a giant), at least I already saw some people that could do it in their setup. Maybe there is something to do on the height of your sitting bench, or thickness of cushion or even the thickness of your roof isolation but that should be a point possible to improve in your Defender.

As much driving as you do, have you looked into the Alternator to Battery Chargers (A2B)? Seems that would be a good option to keep your battery charged without having to rely solely on your solar panels.

I totally agree with and appreciate your approach to travel. The greatest trip I have ever taken was a 3 month bike tour, followed by lots of pickup travel slash tent camping… and years of RV travel. I’ve experienced extensive travel in modest hotels with eating and drinking out of grocery stores. I’ve really never splurged on travel. I’m telling you and others about my approach to travel because like you dear, I believe the closer one can get to the earth and it’s people the better the travel experience. Camp stove issues, oh my... What a quagmire. Back in 1976 I bought a MSR backpacking stove and haven't looked back. Mine is only slightly updated from their original design. I still use it after all these years. So far I've only needed to change O rings. The spark unit no longer works so I use a flint and steel striker to light it. I do feel it may finally be time to replace the plastic pressure pump. I can control it from a cool simmer all the way to a raging boil. Using a cast iron plate as a heat spreader, I can run it low enough to safely melt chocolate. All it takes is modulating the pressure in the tank, and valve opening. If you want to run it at a low output, only put a little pressure in the tank. So far I've only used it with white gas, but it can be used with auto gas/petrol. I avoid that due to the additives in auto fuels. Some modern versions of the MSR stove can run on diesel and alcohol, and all have better output control. With my MSR stove, I'll buy a new can of fuel, and transfer it all to SIG fuel bottles for storage during travel. When the cap gasket in a fuel bottle wears out, I pitch the fuel bottle and get a new one. Takes many years of use before the gasket wears out. Air travel with the MSR. Clean it and the fuel bottle of all fuel residue using alcohol, and then buy fuel at the destination. With your experiences with so many different peoples, how about writing some articles on how we are all at our core very similar? Yes, our cultures can look very different, but we all have a core that is similar.

I overlanded in south america for a few months in 2016. An amazing place! I hope that's where we see you next. There are so many beautiful remote places to discover.

Fab power supply; as kettles tend to be higher wattage perhaps you could double up with one of those ‘wonderchef multi cook kettle steamers’ that are 1000w (ideal for boiling water for coffee as well as making pasta/noodles or steaming veggies). I’m no affiliate but was checking out various appliances that might be compatible with the item you showed. Enjoy your travel x

Jackery...YES!!! As soon as you were talking about the frustration of needing your vehicle in the HOT sun to charge your solar panels, I was thinking, "she needs a Jackery!" I know from first hand experience what it is like to be in the great outdoors and need my vehicle in the shade for coolness... and my solar panels in the sun for, well, SUN! I had thought of applying solar panels to my roof as well, which in theory is incredibly convenient, but unless you have no issues with being in full sun when it is incredibly hot outside, the ability to move the Jackery solar panels around is great. And, of course, it is so much easier to not deal with all the different smaller things that you need if you have a do-it-yourself set up, like inverters, extra cords, etc., etc. There are downsides though - like you cannot get the panels wet. Sure, who charges when it is raining? But you would be surprised how a sudden rain can interrupt your day and have you scrambling to put panels away, or how on some days when there are intervals of sun and rain it would help to just be able to leave them there and not be dancing around, back and forth, putting them in and out. It would be great if Jackery worked on fixing that. And the extra solar panels in the vehicle is something to think about too. But all in all, it really does make a difference when you can find a wonderful cool, shady spot for you and your vehicle, and then extend your solar panels over to that hot, sunny spot for them. So glad you got a Jackery! :)

I have had a Jackery 500 and Solar Saga 100 panel for almost two years now. Until recently I hadn't attempted to use the solar panel to charge my Jackery as using my car to recharge it was sufficient. I discovered my panel was not working when I finally did try to use it. Jackery replaced my panel at no charge when I brought it to their attention. Very happy with my Jackery and the folks who work there.

There is always vehicle maintenance and repairs, no matter the vehicle. If you love your vehicle, definitely keep it. Loving your content Eva. Keep it up :-)

Love your work Eva! I just want to add that its time that makes the travel adventurous, going to places you haven't planned, getting lost etc. When you have 1 week or 2 of holidays, sometimes its better to plan your trip, or else you miss out on things

OMG.....what a beautiful area! re: Cooking: consider getting a Coleman dbl. burner cook stove; cheap, effective, small. My own is 35yr+.....and NEVER has failed me. Your current single burner is good for one thing only: coffee!

For me, traveling means meeting local people. It’s not that there aren’t great tourist spots, but I really cherish the people I’ve met along the way-and I’m an extremely shy, introverted person.

I loved the Ankara mechanics, they are experts in their field. They were also golden hearted.

I do overlanding in the USA but by motorcycle. Wild camping in a tent on an Adventure Motorcycle. The down side as big as the USA is, it’s basically one culture, American. I have been in Europe 3 times. Spain, France and Italy. One day I’ll get into Eastern Europe. Drive safe and have fun. 🇺🇸

I didn't 'find" you until you traveled to the US and really feel like I missed an opportunity to for our paths to cross when you were in the McKenzie Bridge Oregon area during your Bigfoot search as you were only 30 miles away. While keeping up on your current travels, I'm still getting caught up on your previous adventures. Your observation of vacation/holiday trips verses exploration adventures are spot on. When I travel to France I have required duties in Paris and stay in hotels at are bordering opulent, but venturing into rural France is what brings me back year after year. Being with friends in a remote and desolate area surrounded by space and quiet far exceeds the feeling I have in a congested gathering in an urban setting with strangers. I count myself with the nearly 2 million others that understand your appreciation of this and view your travel adventures as an extension of our desires.

I ran my series 3 Landrover as my primary source of electricity for 10 years, wiring deep cycle batteries into your car charging system is the easiest way, any auto electrician can do it, it's all about setting your charge rate, then you only need the solar panels to boost, or just start your engine for half an hour.

Odyssey is AWESOME. I just got a new Defender 110 and I have used it as a true utility vehicle. Over the next year, I will convert mine to more of a camper vehicle. I really like what you've done with Odyssey. I really enjoy your videos and I totally appreciate your views on travel! If you happen to come to the USA on your next trip. I can get a small group of overlanders to join you on a really nice route in the west. Thanks so much for sharing with us! Happy Holidays!

On our van we have no solar. We connect our leisure battery directly to the cars battery and use a charge controller in between them to siphon power over too it. We never run out of power this way but you do need to drive every few days to make sure it’s topped up. It’ll definitely run flat sitting there for a week in one spot being heavily used the whole time. But who does that anyway, we’re exploring!

I like at the end where it's' feel life'. It's the ability to get off the beaten path and know the people, and see the people in the towns, cities and off-road areas that you're traveling. Enjoy the path wherever it may lead.

Eva, thank you for sharing your journey so far. Your comment on how most people equate a holiday with a journey is so true. I did not leave my home country of New Zealand until I was 45, but I travelled everywhere I could, in NZ, mountains, beaches and everywhere in between. I also have hosted couch surfers from all over the world, so the world came to my doorstep. I have since made intrepid journeys to many countries, met many amazing people and shared the experience. Travel and journeying is not dead, we are going to be more conscious about how we travel and how the experience benefits humanity in the process.

I recently swapped out my ARB roof top tent, similar to the one you have to an Alucab Expedition clamshell tent and oh my GOD the ease of use and quality of life upgrade was absolutely amazing. Setting up and packing down the Alucab tent can be done in under 90 seconds compared to 6 - 7 minutes+ for just setting up the fold over tent is SO nice

This woman's view of travel is at a much greater depth, a far deeper level. Real self actualization, realization and development should be at the base of all travel, but this is not the case for most travelers. I so agree with her view on this, most people who travel want to relax and see some new sights which is cool but there are levels to this. The resort experience is one and then there is the real experience of traveling outside of that box, yes the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

To my opinion, you are an influencer by the good meaning of the term, an influencer that inspires people to travel to enjoy nature and life to run in the mountains to enjoy freedom, that's the right way of describing an influencer, and not as we have been used to define an influencer who is the one to convince other people of how they should look or how they should "modify" their characteristics to look more beautiful.
