Tcu outsmarted Baylor on the FG, they rushed and made it seem that they won’t get the kick off in Time so that Baylor doesn’t call a TO. TCU were quick, but not in a hurry.

I think you can add unnecessary to that list. Why spike the ball on 2nd down and run it on 3rd? It doesn't seem to make any sense
@xVersii
@xVersii Жыл бұрын
@@_JellyDonut_ The spike gives TCU more time to prepare for the field goal. Running the football places the ball near the right hash marks… which probably made the FG easier to kick. So ultimately, it was a decisive and smart play call.

@@xVersii Look, I like TCU so I'm glad it worked out. I don't see how spiking the ball on 2nd down helps you prepare for a field goal though. They ran a whole new group on for the field goal so they were ready the whole time. If you want the ball on the right hash just run it that way on 2nd down and spike on 3rd. It worked so I'm not hating but it seems like they made it more difficult than necessary
@_JellyDonut_
@_JellyDonut_ Жыл бұрын
@@lonzoballcandoitall4132 I'd say that's probably the best argument that can be made in favor of what they did. It just seems unnecessary. Baylor's defense was set and ready by the snap so I'm not sure what was accomplished. Maybe it helps the kicker to snap the ball quickly so he doesn't overthink it but there's a ton of pressure either way. Obviously the guy can hit a 40 yarder no problem. Anyway it was exciting, that's for sure

I disagree, that entire last series was very risky and awful play calling. However, it did work out in the end. Playing like that in the "playoff" against teams like Georgia, OSU, Michigan, or Alabama (all in the top 15 in defense) would NEVER work. Might work against Oregon or USC. Baylor was ranked 131st in yds against and 198th in ppg allowed. Maybe the coach figured it would work because Baylor's defense is not very good (to put it nicely)! Still, not the plays you wanna call in the last minute.

Props to the broadcast guys that have to keep color correcting the scrimmage / first down marker key .. those uniforms blend so much with the grass.

I'm old enough to remember when TCU abjured a bowl game one season. For the students. Then they got a plum berth and went bowling anyway. lol. I don't think any of those players today were even born but it was this century.

Okay, I agree it’s some very suspect playcalling. But we can still give props to TCU for being so freaking aware in that last 20 seconds. That takes amazing execution.

When I heard that they practice that rush field goal every Thursday, that told me that Sonny knew exactly what he was doing the whole time! The announcers were like "um I don't know about that call, what's going on?" And that's the genius of Sonny Dykes, he's playing Madden Football while the other teams are playing PeeWee football!
