I think as game dev KZfaqrs we have a major advantage since people not only buy the game cuz it is good but also cuz they like you, and AI wont be able to take that.

That's a great point! One thing I had to cut from the video is that I believe art for the sake of art, so art exhibitions/galleries, games as a whole, and passion projects like this will be forever fine as its the humans story that makes them so great. Any art for hire stuff though where it's just an asset or means to an end is where AI has the potential to swoop in and replace everything for sure.

It's all about having a friendly community with each other. This is true with game development. I find that word of mouth is the best way to sell games and get people to play your games. Also don't forget, game devs are players as well

Man I generated A.I concept art and still spent 2 days in blender to match something similar to the Midjourney images. I still count that as me being an artist, because at tripple A studios the designer and concept artist may not even be the same person as the modeler. Plus uv texturing etc. Its a tool... it doesnt and probably never will completely replace humans. Even a concept artist could do thier own iterations of ai images. By fighting with prompts youre basically taking the role of an art director. You still say nope not what I want lol. Plus gpt saved me hours in unreal, because I already knew what I wanted to do jist need to know the node names of certain functions. I dont know every blueprint thats made, but I inderstand how to use blueprint in general. I see no issue if used properly.

5:44 totally agree, sometimes you just gotta try your luck for as long as it takes for luck to strike. I got lucky for my year recap video and it helped all the rest of my channel (and the itch downloads), but if I didn't make those other less successful videos, those less successful games, it would not have happened.

Great video! I think the real interesting part of chat GPT type tools is that we don't know how far into this we are. I suspect we'll see these tools keep growing but also legal challenges to curb them. It'll be something to look back on in 5-10 years time.

I used chat GPT3 to conde for a jam, quite useful indeed, instead of looking for the Unity API chat just does it by itself at the same time it writes it (you do tweaks of course, but the point is that it's faster, and useful even if you already know how to do it yourself), about the art, gonna be bold here, a lot of people do art which is very similar to other people's art, so yeah now it being a machine I don't think you can't cry over it, I don't believe in the bases of intellectual property, since they were born out of the state of monopolies, the same thing that makes a person/company able to not produce medicine for instance... In any case, it is coming, so adapt or die, I'm making a game in non-digital media, everything hand drawn, then processed in photoshop I have to admit it xD, but yeah I think if you know how to do it you can monetize your art still, but in the same way, a dude playing the guitar in the streets do, you have internet so you can do it with scale, which makes it doable for a living... But it doesn't make sense at all to forbid AI to make art on a production scale, idk it would just be wrong to me morally... the same as patents.
