If you hear a HIGH PITCHED FREQUENCY while watching this video, it's only noticeable through certain speakers (which is why I didn't realize it was there till after I'd posted the video). Try listening through headphones or a different source of speakers and hopefully you can still get some benefit from the video 👍

To find a friend who have interest in starting a band is hard...
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it sure is; that's why I'd recommend getting started by yourself first. Do as much as you can on your own; meanwhile, see if you can find someone who has a similar style to yours and try collaborating. When collaborating, it'll probably start more as a "business relationship" rather than a friendship, but by the end of the collaboration, you may have developed something of a friendship, or maybe you don't have much chemistry at all. Depending on the outcome, you can determine if you should keep working together, or try finding someone else to partner with. Just do your best; good luck!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
@@gianniraxonguitar For singing, check out Ken Tamplin at "Vocal Academy" and Mary Zimmer at "Voice Hacks" here on KZfaq; now is a good time to learn and practice. You don't have to wait till the pandemic's over to start a band; just start writing songs on your own and film yourself performing them, and then post them on KZfaq (and maybe other social media, like Instagram, but just pick one or two to focus on). You also want to make content that people are searching for so they can find you, things like tutorials and covers. Once you have at least 5 songs, you can start live streaming to your friends and family on Facebook, and maybe on Twitch as well; later, you can stream on KZfaq once you have a bit of a following. During all of this, you can stay solo, or you can try to find other band mates online; find people who are doing things you like, and see if they'd like to collaborate on a song. You can send recordings back and forth over email. Hope that gives you some ideas; don't wait, start now! Good luck!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane Жыл бұрын
Well, while you're "waiting" to find a drummer, you should learn how to PROGRAM DRUMS in a Recording Software; then you can make your own Backing Tracks to play along with until you find a drummer to play with you guys! As a Solo Artist, I produce and release my songs by myself, and then make a "Backing Track Version" that I use for Live Streams AND Live Shows. I was able to perform on stage by myself last year; here's a video if you'd like to see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9Zmd8mama6beps.html Anyway, I hope that gives you some ideas; there's ALWAYS a way!

@@QuincyKane I do have one question regarding guitar. I've tried to play my small guitar in the past, and I've had a couple reoccurring issues whilst doing so. For starters, whenever I try to hold down more than one fret on the fretboard, the entire guitar is muted. I've also noticed that it goes out of tune whenever I go to play it. I looked it up and read that I might need new strings, but my friends say since I've been idle for so many years that they couldn't be in need of replacement. Do you have any advice as to how I could fix this issue?

I've rediscovered a love for drumming and music at 27. Finally after a life of emptiness with no goals and a bleak looking future i have something that compels me to do everything i can to be a better version of myself. My dream now is to have a music career, ideally with a band but as long as im drumming im happy. Heres to hoping things work out in the future and thanks for the vid ❤ it makes my dream seem a little more within reach
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 11 ай бұрын
I'm rooting for you and your dream 🙂 Let me know if you ever have any questions or would like any advice! I think it's great that you're striving to be the best version of yourself; definitely keep doing that, always looking to grow and improve. Be nice and work hard, and that'll get you far. I dunno if you'll find this helpful, but if I was a drummer, I'd post as many cover/playthrough style videos as I could for the genre I'm interested in. That way, you could build up a following online, and then eventually, you're likely to get some band invitations. You could also make short versions of your drum performances and post them on Shorts, Reels, and TikTok, as well as coming up with fun/creative drum beat content to entertain people (you can find a lot of that on TikTok and such). Lastly, even if you don't have a band yet, you can still build a following online, and setup ways for your fans to support you, like creating merch for them, setting up a virtual tip jar, and maybe some day having a Patreon or VIP Drum Lessons. I hope that gives you some helpful ideas; you can do it!

I would love to have a band and play Beatles music and other songs. Any tips on how to become solid at playing with members?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
What really helps is if each member is practicing to a click (or a backing track), and then recording themselves playing. You can listen back to the recording and determine if you're rushing, dragging, or playing right on time. Once you know you have solid timing, you just gotta practice together, critique yourselves, and make improvements. The more you play together, the tighter you'll get. Also, don't just play through the whole song from the beginning; if there's a certain section you keep messing up at, focus on that section first, then try it in context with the rest of the song. Hope that helps, and good luck!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Well, do you have equipment for writing and recording songs? I would suggest you start writing songs by yourself and recording demos; then you can video yourself performing these songs and post them on KZfaq. You should also make videos to share your process and what you've learned. Your main focus should be to build an audience who enjoys your music. Once you have at least 5 songs, you can start performing live streams on KZfaq, Facebook, and Twitch. Eventually, as you start to build a following, people may request that you release your music officially, so that's when you can start working on an EP with professional quality recordings. You can either do this yourself, or hire someone to produce it with you. Hopefully that's enough to get you started!

@HannahsMusicAndNovels

Ever since I was 7, I would belt out Three Days Grace & The Used and just dream of the day that I could be a rockstar myself like that. As I've gotten older, I've realized that I don't want to do it as an actual career, but just something to do until I attend college & actually do something real with my life. My deadline to college is coming up really soon, and I'm trying my hardest to map out a plan. I have one solid seeming plan so far: 1. Purchase a bigger guitar & learn it over the summer of 2023 (my original one is a children's guitar I never got to learning to play) 2. Record my own personal EP & upload it unlisted on KZfaq 3. Probably do the collaboration tip you put in your video until I find a solid partner 4. Find actual band members who want to do it for fun/aren't doing it for the rockstar lifestyle 5. Play a few gigs (and, Insha Allah, open for an artist/band) and upload our music to KZfaq 6. Do this for a year or two, go to college, and actually start my life. Do you have any advice on how I could tweek this list to make it more realistic, considering you have more experience in music than I probably ever will?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 2 жыл бұрын
I think I can share some advice to polish up your plan, but first, I think you could tweak your perspective a little bit. I think it's great that you wanna start a band just for fun, but your life is not defined by your career. As the Three Days Grace song goes, "Life Starts Now" :) This IS the real stuff in life; making memories, having experiences, and connecting with people; and these days, having a music related career is more doable than ever! So don't look at this as some kind of "unrealistic fantasy until it's time to wake up". Now, as for some practical tips: 1) Yes, you might want a bigger guitar, but if you've still got your small one, you should start learning on that right now instead of waiting. Learn to tune your guitar, learn about tempo, beat, and rhythm, learn about pitched notes, song keys, and the "Major Scale", learn some beginner songs and work towards learning "Power Chords". You can search all of this on KZfaq, and that should be enough to get you started. Meanwhile, save up your money and research good guitars in your price range. 2) If the EP is just for learning your craft, I think that songs good, but you could just focus on one song at a time, release it publicly, then try to do better on the next song. Rinse and repeat for about 5 - 10 songs. 3, 4, and 5 sound pretty good; when you start playing gigs, look for local venues and aim to play anywhere between once a month and once a week. You can post videos from gigs and band practice, and when you record your music, just focus on putting out demos; don't stress about having a super professional mix. (I do have some videos about the most important recording/mixing steps to focus on). 6) Yes, maybe a time will come when you have to move on from the band, but that's not when your life actually starts. And whatever career you do choose, you should pursue something related to your passions. Look up "Graham Cochrane" here on KZfaq; he teaches you how to create an online business that generates passive income. This would help you make more money so that you have the time to do the things you love, all while doing work you enjoy. Anyway, I hope that gives you some ideas; keep learning as much as you can right now, and enjoy the adventure!

I meet a lot of peeps who want to come audition for my band but trying to keep them in the band and stay motivated and committed is a real challenge. Obviously cover bands don’t make (much) money. Maybe you can make $80-150 for a gig but that money is split between band members and after that that money goes right back into gear, promotional materials, ect. So it is hard to keep a band together since there is really no financial incentive, and if it is treated as a hobby, well hobbies are the first things that get dropped when life gets stressful.
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane Жыл бұрын
Yep, it definitely takes more than just gigging to make some solid income; in fact, you have to create "multiple streams" of income: Selling Merch, Tips, Physical Media, eventually streams, VIP passes, lessons, or even starting music related brands. There's a lot more to the business than just playing music.

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane Ай бұрын
Yep, it's definitely a struggle finding bandmates! With your current situations, you could play drums, one of the other guitarists could play bass, and then the remaining guitarists could play rhythm and lead; if one of you could do vocals, I'd say you have a pretty good set up for a band! Of course, if not everyone is interested, you could make backing tracks to fill the roles that are missing in your current band set up. Anyway, where there's a will, there's a way; I hope it works out for you to have a band, but even if it doesn't, there are still solutions that allow you to make music and share it with people!

I’m really interested in a forming a band with two of my friends and we might wanna make a career out of it if we’re successful enough. but the problem is, we’re not sure how to get our music out there and perform at gigs and etc. how would we even get signed by a record label if we eventually get to that point?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
So first, you'll need to write some songs to perform; one tip is that the songs DO NOT have to be in their final form before you start performing them. It's ok, to make adjustments to your songs up until the point you decide to record them officially. You'll want at least 5 songs to start gigging, and you could do some covers if you'd like, but I'd recommend doing those sparingly. Gigs are important because they're the quickest way to start building an audience; now normally, you'd just wanna do some research and see what venues are available in your area, contact them and organize a gig, but with the "pandemic" a lot of venues are closed right now, so that leaves "live streaming". You can live stream to KZfaq, Facebook, and Twitch; you should also look up "Sessions Live". I'm not sure what style of music you guys play, but the simplest thing you can do is set up a camera and play acoustic instruments. If you have electric guitars and drums, you might need a slightly more "elaborate" set up, but there are KZfaq tutorials on the matter, and I myself am hoping to put out a tutorial soon to show how me and my drummer, Sam, live stream with backing tracks. Now, along with live streaming, you'll probably want to make some content so people can find you, so you can make music videos and playthroughs, and tutorials/lessons are usually a good way to bring people to your channel. You first need to build an audience, then you need to provide ways for that audience to support you. The simplest thing you can do is post a link to a "virtual tip jar" in your video descriptions, and once you record an EP, you can post that to Bandcamp for people to download. Once people start showing that they want to support you, you can create merch for them to purchase, and eventually start a Patreon. As for record labels, to be honest, in this day and age, a record label might not be the best course of action. If you can build a following that wants to support you on your own, that will likely attract some record labels into contacting you, but don't just take the first deal they offer; you need to make sure it's a fair and beneficial deal for you, the artist. You don't have to be famous to make a living in music, you just need enough of a following of passionate fans who connect with your music and want to support you. I hope that gives you some ideas; be sure to read other comments in this video, because I've answered similar questions before and you might learn more helpful info. Good luck!

1. Is it recommended to start a band with only a drummer, a pianist, and a singer? 2. How do I start a band with my online friends
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
There are no rules with music; you could certainly get started with a drummer, pianist, and singer, and perhaps along the way you can find a bassist, but you don't have to "wait" to have a bassist before starting. You can still write songs, practice, record, and when you feel ready, perform live shows, all while keeping an eye out for someone to play bass. As for starting a band online, I'd say your best shot at success would be if each of you knew a little bit about recording; that way, you could have video chat meetings to write songs together, then each of you could record your own parts and send them to each other. For example, I don't know your exact situation, but let's say the pianist knows how to mix/produce music; the drummer could record a drum beat for a song and send it to the pianist. The pianist could then record their piano part over top the drums and send that to the vocalist. The vocalist could then record themselves singing over the backing track, and then send the vocal track back to the pianist so they can mix/master the song. Ideally, you want individual recordings for each instrument. Once you have a song recorded, you can each film yourselves playing the song, and then edit together a video that you can post online. I hope that answers you questions and gives you some ideas; good luck, and have fun!

Glad you found it helpful; good luck with your band! If each of you learn how to record your own instruments, you can send each other recordings for the songs your working on, and maybe have one member who can put it all together. You can also make playthrough/music videos by filming yourselves play a song and then send the footage to someone to edit it all together and post to KZfaq/Social Media. You could also have Zoom meetings to discuss song writing, branding, and other plans for the band! Hope that gives you some ideas!

I just started a band by myself, I’m looking for maybe 2/3 more members, need someone on the guitar, drums and I would like another lead singer/co-writer but it’s hard cause I’m in such a place where I don’t believe people who hold my interest exists, my band is alternative indie pop rock and I’m black so it’s extremely unique, I’m also a rapper so it’s incredibly unique with my array of styles, I just seriously love music and writing, they are my passions and regardless of results or success I hope to elevate myself and my life doing what I love. I’m just simple boy wit a big dream hoping too set myself free one day.
@QuincyKane

These days with advancements in recording technology, it's very doable to produce songs all by yourself. If your concern is that your style is too "specific", I'd say your best bet is to put out a few songs by yourself to build a "resume" of what your sound is all about; that way, when you start looking for collaborators, you can attract people who are interested in your style, and then just focus on your work chemistry. If you're new to recording, check out "The Recording Revolution" here on KZfaq; it's a great resource for learning how to make professional sounding mixes in your bedroom. If you don't have a drummer, you may learn how to "program" drums; you can also program bass if you don't play bass. Guitar might be a little trickier, but you could maybe try looking for royalty free guitar loops to work with, or if you know someone who plays guitar (but may not be interested/play your style), you could at least show them what you have so far with the bass and drums and ask if they could write a simple guitar part for it. Anyway, I hope that gives you some ideas; best of luck!

A lot of people have been asking me similar questions, so be sure to read the other comments in this video and see if you can find some helpful advice! I'd recommend that you first get started by yourself and at the same time, look for other members who can help you. As a rapper, you'll need beats, so you should learn how to make your own beats, but you could always collaborate with someone else where they make the beats and you write the lyrics. You can learn anything on KZfaq, so just search "How to Get Started Making Beats" to learn what equipment you need and how to use it. All you'd really need is a laptop/phone, headphones, and a microphone. If you don't have much money, check out the FIFINE USB K054; it's an affordable mic that plugs right into your computer. Once you've recorded a few songs/demos, start making videos performing the songs on KZfaq; once you have some regular commenters, you can live stream on KZfaq, Facebook, and Twitch to build a bigger audience. You can also audition for something called "Sessions Live" which is a platform that helps artists make money. You can set up a "virtual tip jar" with Paypal, and once people are tipping you regularly, you might make an EP for them to purchase, and if they buy that, you can make some merchandise for them to support you. Hopefully that's enough to get you started for now; good luck!

Please tell me what should we do know... please please please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
There's nothing stopping you from making a pop band, and I think 3 members is plenty to get started! First off, it's ok (and probably a good thing) to be different; especially in the music business! Just cause you're from India doesn't mean you can't be inspired by K-Pop; and if you do it "your way", it will be something new and exciting rather than just "copying" what someone else has already done. Sure, maybe K-Pop bands are known to have several members, but you're not "just another K-Pop band"; you're something new! 3 Members is enough to have harmonies and choreographed dance moves, so start with that and you can add members later if you'd like. Now, the music industry is changing; you don't have to be discovered by some record label and let them be in control of your fate. You can make your own music and build your own audience! First, you'll need to write and record some songs; it would help if you knew how to play keyboard and program drums. If you don't know how to do that, you can start watching KZfaq tutorials to learn how to produce K-Pop music, or you can try to find someone (in person or online) who would like to collaborate with you and help you write and record songs. See if these videos help out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrKkmsKbp6vcmZc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prtzjauk2rDddp8.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftebaaySmsyZc2w.html Once you've written a few songs, make some videos of your band performing the songs and post them on KZfaq and other social media. Over time, you can build up an audience who will want to support your music, and there are several ways to make money, but you have to build the audience first. Be sure to read the other comments in this video, because I've answered a lot of questions for people giving them tips on how to succeed with there bands, so you might learn more and get some ideas if you read. Last thing, don't be afraid of failure; life is too short and too precious to waste it doing some boring job that you hate. Life should be adventurous! It's worth chasing your dream and working towards something you love, but you have to LEARN what it takes and you have to ADAPT to your situation. If you're scared, you're probably going in the right direction. I hope that helps, good luck; you can do it!

I've been into metalcore music for a long time and have soo many ideas on what I want my music to sound like, but I just don't know where to start and how to develop into something like my favorite bands Bring Me The Horizons, Staind, Bullet for my Valentine, and Volumes for example.
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Whenever I get inspired by a band or artist, usually I'll try to write a song that "sounds like them". A lot of times, my first inspired song will sound almost "too" similar to the artist. However, this is part of the learning process and helps with understanding "how" to achieve that specific sound. I'll do this with several different artists, and it helps me collect a "catalogue of different sounds", but all sounds that I "connect" with. Then, when I write a song without specific inspiration, I combine these sounds and create something unique and original to me. It's good that you are inspired by several different bands; find the sounds that you connect with most, learn how to create that sound, and then write with instinct, don't just try to copy another band. In time, your sound will develop naturally, you just gotta keep writing. Also, try to be dynamic; write heavy songs and try to write some softer ones. At first, you might be worried that they sound "too" different and don't fit together, but trust me; there will always be a piece of you in every song you write, and that's what will connect them. Hope that helps!

Hi Quincy! This is a bit off subject but I really wanna ask you musicians. Do you think it's okay for a vocalist to have 2 different bands (I honestly like D.I.Y. punk, alt rock, even some folk, trip hop and even hip hop and wanna have a band who can do a bit of everything instead) doing originals? I am new to music and it has been really tough for me this past year to just start, find people who get my vision and keep things consistent. I have broken up with 2 bands, and the collaborative relationships that I've had were a hit and miss, people dangling me a record deal when it was just sexual harassment etc. The only 2 songs that I have are really punk-y and normally with other punkettes, to form a band they tend to be really just punk-y all the way, only sometimes they might try a bit of alt rock? To be honest, I'm trying to have just 1 band to focus on or just to have a bunch of collaborators to work with before I get 1 band apart from juggling my day job/s. Or should I just enter so many bands while trying to run my own songs as solo stuff? Or collaborate with as many people, run my solo stuff and find bandmates where we get each other? Also, I'm kinda starting this at a late age and I'm getting worried that I have no progress eversince I created those 2 songs with the band I have broken up with almost 2 years ago. I'm not sure if you get me, but yeah, I thought maybe I should just ask a musician like you. Thank you.
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane Жыл бұрын
Well, first off, it sounds like you really need to focus on progressing with just 1 project, so I think you should try to pick what's "most" important to you and start with that; later, once you're more established in the music scene, then you can branch out and do other projects. I, myself, like a wide variety of music, and when I first started, I would hop around from genre to genre, but the most important thing for anyone getting into the music business is an AUDIENCE, and it's gonna be hard to build one if people don't know what to expect from you cause you're always changing things up. If I was just a vocalist, and I had a vision for producing music that combined different genres (like Punk and HipHop), I would focus on promoting myself as a vocalist who sings these styles of music, so I would do COVERS of songs by other artists in these genres. If you can find artists that have a sound similar to what you want, you should prioritize them (I don't know much about HipHop, but I know MGK has done HipHop and Punk, so his audience is probably YOUR target audience). Now, as a vocalist, rather than joining a band as the lead vocalist, you should be more of a SESSION VOCALIST and offer to provide vocals for projects who need them. As you collaborate with people in your "target genres", you can build connections, and eventually may find someone you'd want to form an actual band with. Now, I will say as a musician, it would be hard for a vocalist to come in and tell me what they want when I probably have ideas of my own and I'm the one writing the music (unless I was hired to write music for someone else). So, you would either need to "hire" a musician to help you bring your vision to life, or, if you were to collaborate, then you'll have to make some compromises. Ideally, you should each find a genre/style you and your collaborators agree on, and then you each should be allowed to contribute ONE personal idea. For example, I had a metal band once; we all liked Periphery, but our vocalist wanted influences from heavier bands, our drummer wanted more "groove", and I wanted more melody, so we strived to combine all are "wants". Lastly, I know you said you're starting at a late age, but you may try to learn some skills so you can do things yourself. Since you're a vocalist, you should really learn how to record/produce your own vocals; this is a skill you can use for your covers and for contributing to collaborative projects. The Recording Revolution is a great resource here on KZfaq about Home Studio production; you can find out what gear you need to get started and learn how to record/mix things properly. After vocals, you might learn how to program drum beats on your computer; you could program drums beats for any genre of music, so it could be a helpful skill in expressing your vision and ideas. It would take time, but the more skills you learn yourself, the more you can do yourself to bring your ideas to life and the less you'd have to depend on others to provide the music. Anyway, I hope that gives you some ideas and helps out!

I'd say if you don't know anyone around you who could be in your band, focus on writing songs by yourself first. Look up "The Recording Revolution" here on KZfaq and learn how to record your own music and what gear you'll need to get started. You can actually "program" the drums and bass, and then record the guitar through a "virtual amp" on your computer; this minimizes the amount of gear you'll need and helps you to start producing songs quicker. If you're interested in learning to sing, check out Mary Zimmer of "VoiceHacks" and Ken Tamplin of "Vocal Academy", both here on KZfaq. Watch their videos and practice regularly and you might find yourself to be a solid vocalist. If you feel like singing just ain't happening, you can write "instrumental" music for now, and worry about vocals later. For guitar, just play and write as much as you can, and little by little, you'll get better. I'd say if you want to write music like Motley Crue and Nirvana, look up guitar tutorials on how to play some of their songs; pay attention to the techniques used in their songs and then try to write something "like that". Don't copy their songs, but try to figure out how to create a similar vibe and tone. Once you've recorded a few songs, start sharing then on KZfaq and some social media, then you can start building a following. You might also find some other musicians online to collaborate with, and then eventually consider building a band together. That should be enough to get you started; hope that helps! Good luck!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question, but it is quite challenging to get into the music industry. That doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means you'll need to focus. There's a lot of different routes you could go, but the main thing to focus on is building an audience, so get your music out there and perform it (live and/or streaming) as often as you can. As you build a following, more opportunities will present themselves.

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane Жыл бұрын
No, waiting to find someone is not the only option; while it is true that you might have to wait for an opportunity to form a full band, you don't have to wait to start releasing music yourself and collaborating with other musicians over the internet. A few things you can do; if you're interested in a career in music, then you should start investing in yourself right now. Playing an instrument is only part of the equation; as a guitarist, I would recommend you learn a basic understanding of Bass, Drums, Piano, and Vocals (if you're interested in singing/screaming), and learn how to record these parts yourself or program them. Check out The Recording Revolution here on KZfaq; they teach about what gear you need to get started recording music at home. Ideally, you will need a computer, a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation; software for recording/editing music), an interface to connect instruments or mics to your computer, and headphones. If you don't have a computer, there are actually ways to do this with your phone too. Since you like rock and metal, you should check out URM Academy and Hardcore Mixing, as they specialize in producing heavy music. Also, I dunno if you're familiar with the band Periphery, but Nolly, who is one of the best mixers in metal, has a couple free mixing courses on KZfaq that you should really check out once you have a basic understanding of how things work. Since you likely won't have a way to record drums, you should look up "how to program drums for metal", so you can make the beats on your computer; you might do the same thing for bass if you don't own one, but you'll need to record guitar and vocals. For guitar, look up "how to record guitar with amp sims"; amp sims are software amps on your computer, and there are some free ones you can download that sound great for metal. They're a lot easier to work with than mixing a real amp. Once you understand how to start making music yourself, you should start making songs and sharing them. You could post videos of yourself playing guitar covers and playing original songs. DO NOT worry if you're mixes don't sound "professional" yet; just try to get your ideas out as quickly as possible. You'll get better with each release, and you can always go back and redo a song once you get better. Think of them more as "demos" than final products. If you're consistent in making content and promoting yourself as a metal guitarist, eventually you'll start to build an audience of people who are interested in what you're doing. Building an audience is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you'll need in order to have a career in music. You don't have to be famous, you just need a group of people who love what you're doing and want to support you. Check out "Musician Mastery" to learn more about the music business. Once people start to know you as the "metal guitar guy", you may meet other musicians who like the same style and would be interested in collaborating. Knowing how to record/program music yourself allows you to collaborate with other musicians over the Internet. You could email a guitar recording to a drummer so he can drum along with it, or a vocalist could send you a vocal recording you can write music to. TikTok is also great for this with "Duets". You can find drummers playing beats and record yourself playing a guitar part over it, or play with whatever musicians you can find. Lastly, while you're working on all this, you could still try having a "jam session" with the couple musicians at your school; they may like a different style, but maybe you all can find some common ground and just enjoy playing for fun and learning how to play with other musicians. I hope that helps; I'm actually a "one man metal band" pursuing a career in music, and there are a lot of things I would tell myself if I could go back in time. But while I can't do that, I can share what I've learned with younger people like you, so feel free to ask me questions any time, and maybe check out more of my channel to see if it gives you any ideas of what you can do yourself!

But we're both antisocial so help-
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I'd say just start with the two of you! You can get together and write songs, and then record demos to share online. Once you have about 5 or more songs, you could probably start playing gigs. You could look for venues in your local area, or just start with streaming online (ideally, you would wanna do both). I'm not sure what kind of music you make, but hopefully you could perform the songs with just the two of you, and later as you get more band members, add their instrument into the arrangement. As for being antisocial; I'm not very "outgoing" or "talkative" myself, but it's a very helpful skill to learn how to talk to people. It's ok if you feel awkward at first, but try to practice talking to people. If you meet other musicians, they're pretty easy to talk to; just talk about music! Ask them what instrument they play and what kinda music they like, who are their favorite artists, and similar questions. In time you may meet someone who could be a good fit for your band, in which case you could collaborate on a song, or get them to help you play a gig, and if they prove to be reliable, then you can talk about them joining the band. I hope that gives you some ideas to get started; good luck, and have fun!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Well, what do you do? Do you play an instrument or sing? I would say to start making content to promote yourself as that (a singer or guitarist or drummer, whatever). Make videos of yourself performing songs, that way, if anyone does ask you to audition, you can send them your videos. You could also make flyers and find local social media forums to promote yourself as a "Musician for Hire"; that way, bands in your area who are looking for another member might come across your ads. I hope that gives you some ideas, but don't wait for a band to start. Just start making music on your own and posting online, and if you still haven't found a band, reach out to someone online to collaborate on a song together. You can collaborate with multiple people, and if you find someone you enjoy working with, you guys can find others to collab with and eventually form a band! Hope that helps, good luck!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Well, you really don't need much to get started; I'm not sure how old you are and what kind of music you're into, but really all you need is an instrument and a camera. If you have a smartphone, you can use the camera to video yourself performing your songs and start posting them on KZfaq, Instagram and Facebook; and you can also live stream on those platforms. If you don't have a camera, see if you can borrow one from a family member or friend; you could also collaborate with someone else who might have some equipment. If you're into beat making, or you'd like to start recording your songs with a full band, you can actually get Garageband for free on iPhone and use the virtual instruments on there to create drum beats and bass lines. There are probably other free/affordable recording softwares or DAWs if you just do a little research. Start with what you do have, and then try to get a job so you can save up some money and buy some gear, but again, do some research and try to buy only what you need. A great resource for using low budget gear is "The RecordingRevolution"; watch this video and then check out the rest of his channel: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLGhhMdpm7KUdqs.html I hope that helps and is enough to get you started; you can do it!

Well, the nice thing about making music these days is that you don't have to have other band members. You should look into Recording Software; if you have an Apple Computer, it comes free with a program called "Garageband" that allows you to record instruments, and any instruments you don't know how to play (like drums), you can program them in the computer! If you don't have an Apple Computer, there are other softwares, also known as "DAWs" (Digital Audio Workstation). You can search on Google for "Free DAWs" or "Affordable DAWs"; there's one called "Reaper" that's only about $60. Once you have a software that allows you to record music, you can start recording your own songs! You can program the drums (and bass, if you want), and you can record the guitar (and vocals, if you sing); then you can share your music online! You can make a video of you playing the song and post it on KZfaq and social media. Over time, you can build up a following, and you might meet some other musicians at school or on the internet who like your music and want to join you in making it. You're still very young, so you have plenty of time; the best thing you should do right now is learn as much as you can about recording/mixing music, getting better at guitar (and any other instruments you're interested in), and writing lots of songs. Check out "The Recording Revolution" here on KZfaq to learn more about recording/mixing, and you can look up tutorials to learn more about guitar and other instruments. Hopefully that's enough to get you started; Good luck, and have fun!

@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
The "simplest" way would be in person; if your school has any music programs, that might be a good way to meet other musicians. Of course, I know there's a pandemic right now, so I'm not sure if you're even going to school physically, but just mention to some of your friends that you're looking for band mates and start asking around. This might sound kinda weird, but maybe keep an eye out for what kind of clothes people are wearing; maybe you'd see someone wearing a t-shirt for a band in the genre you like. You can do the same; wear band shirts and see if anyone asks you about it. The other thing is to let people come to you; if you ever get a chance to perform publicly (like during a free time, study hall, or talent show), play some songs from artists you like and see if anyone comes up to you. You can also post some performances on social media and hopefully meet people that way. I dunno if you go to church, but being apart of a youth group can be a great way to meet other musicians, and usually through church there are lots of opportunities to play music, or go to events (like youth camp) where you can meet other musicians. If anything, you shouldn't let the lack of band members keep you from making music. Just start writing/recording your own songs and posting it online and performing it yourself. If you put your music out there, eventually you'll meet people who connect with it and you can talk about collaborating. I've had other people ask similar questions, so be sure to read the comment section of this video and you might get more ideas. I know it's tough, but I hope this helps!

Hey I’m wondering what are some tips you have for starting or preparing to start a band during Quarantine?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Well, my first advice would be to do what you can on your own. Ideally, you would write songs and film yourself performing them to post on KZfaq (and maybe one other social media platform). You also wanna make content that people are searching for so they can find you, things like tutorials and covers. Now, it looks like you might be a drummer, so if you don't have a way to write music to drum along with, covers are a good way to start, but be creative with them. Instead of just learning the drum part as it is, find popular songs with simple beats / minimal percussion that you can drum over top of and write your own arrangement to display your skill. You can send recordings back and forth over email and with Google Drive. You wanna find someone who not only can help you, but you can help them; maybe there's a guitarist who needs someone to write/record drum beats for them, and they can write music for you. Hope that gives you some ideas; don't wait, start now! Good luck!

@@njkdrums6241 It's definitely good to work on your skills, and anything that might come in handy, so your drum playing, recording/mixing, making videos, etc. You can "document" your progress and make content out of that for KZfaq/Instagram; and keep in mind that it takes time to build an audience. I started posting regularly back in 2016, and it took about a year to get 100 subscribers, but after that, it only took about a year and a half to reach 1,000. I'd say at your age, you got plenty of time to learn as much as you can and gradually figure things out! If you're just learning guitar, I'd say focus on that, and maybe find some other musicians to "jam" with before actually starting a band. As your learning guitar, you can learn other things too, like: how to write songs, how to record guitar, how to record a song, and anything else similar to that. Just have fun writing and recording as many demos as you can, and enjoy jamming with other musicians, while taking note of who might make a good "band member". Once you have a couple years experience with guitar, hopefully you'll know a few musicians to talk to and you can try starting up a band; one challenge for bands is agreeing on a musical style, so I would suggest each of you find an artist you all like, and then each of you pick your own artist, and combine their sounds and styles to create a unique sound for your band. Start meeting regularly to practice and write songs together; write at least 5 songs, and that should be enough for a setlist to start performing gigs. Bonus Tip: If you have trouble finding local venues to play at, you can try Live Streaming and performing on KZfaq. If you're having trouble finding members, you might learn how to make "backing tracks" and start performing music on your own until you can build a band. I hope that helps; good luck, and have fun!

How do I create a band with my friends? All of us are 11 year olds and we want to start a band, do you have any advice?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 3 жыл бұрын
Well, you're all still very young, so you have plenty of time to work on your skills, which should be your main focus right now. Look at some bands/artists in the same style of music you and your friends want to make and see what instruments are involved, then decide which instruments each of you is going to play (who's playing drums, who's playing bass, etc.) Once you know what instrument each of you is playing, learn as much as you can about that instrument and practice as much as you can. You should each practice your instruments by yourselves, and then get together (once a week, if possible) to "jam" together. "Jamming" is when you just play together, teaching each other songs, writing songs together, and just having fun experimenting. Over time, you'll learn how to work together. Once you feel pretty comfortable with your instruments, you should learn a little bit about "recording" and "mixing"; that way, you can start recording demos of your band's songs and start posting your music online for people to hear. You can make videos of your band playing one of your songs and share it on social media; you could all make a demo EP to give to people. (An EP is like a really short CD; usually with about 5 songs). Eventually, you could start doing "live streams" and/or looking for places to perform your music. If there's some kind of school talent show, or some kind of local event that needs live music, those are good places to perform your music in front of people so you can start building a following. The most important thing you need for your band if you're trying to make a career out of it is to have "fans", and the easiest way to get fans is by playing shows (and doing a good job, so make sure you practice)! I hope that gives you some ideas; I've answered similar questions before, so be sure to read the comments of this video for more advice. Take care, and good luck!
