im a nurse, and i can definitely confirm that NOC (night) shifts SUCK, because they are either 1) slow as fuck and lonely or 2) terrifying and stressful as shit

Oh yeah. Pretty regularly, actually. I'm from Oakland, California which is a pretty violent city, lots of gunshots, stabbings, assaults, drug er overdoses, etc. I was doing emergency care and psych emergency, so I saw a lot of people on their worst day, and it got creepy real fast. Like, way more than I was expecting, and I grew up in the area so I was expecting to see some shit. I once had a patient who tried to cut his own leg off because "his other leg told him to". wouldn't stop caressing his other leg like he wanted to have sex with it (it was such a pain in the ass trying to sedate him), and he then became furious when I wouldn't let him stroke my legs, and started screaming and spitting like a rabid dog. Crack: not even once.

I’m so sorry, paranoia sucks. A pet may help, and I used exposure therapy to stories like this to learn how to switch my mindset super fast. I used to be terrified of crime shows because I was scared I was scared there was a murderer after me.

My mom told me I was supposed to be sent to a mental asylum when I was younger because I would hear and see things. I do remember because it was scary and I believed my house was haunted in which no one believed me. Eventually my mom was scared and she kept taking me to the doctor and they didn't know what was wrong with me, so they gave her a choice either to keep me or take me away and she said no and I'm still a healthy 17 year old all i needed was a different house.

Your mother made the right choice to say that. Nobody should be sent to a mental asylum especially at such a young age!. Doctors are sick for trying to send people(you too) away. I know people need help in the head sometimes and I completely understand and agree but they should be treated with kindness and respect not tortured and hurt!

@@ka3deak4m4tsu3 TW: SELF HARM The last mental hospital I went to wouldn't let me have glasses because they thought I would break them to cut, so I had awful headaches the whole time I was there. I told them I cut with my fingernails if I don't have anything else and that I would never break my glasses because of the headaches, but they didn't believe me. So yeah, hospitals suck.

That's not necessarily a bad thing... Hearing about something scary that happened is totally different than actually experiencing it firsthand. It's on a whole other level, and it's definitely not a glamorous thing. And sometimes, that situation stays with you, haunts you, and eats you from the inside out until you scare easily at anything/are constantly paranoid, are just a sad miserable remnant of the person you once were, are just a hollow shell of yourself, are driven to madness, or are driven to suicide. Or you know, you don't escape from the scary encounter with your life.. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and hopefully you don't actually want something scary to happen to you, because you never know what exactly you're gonna get & what the following aftermath will entail. ~Be careful what you wish for.~

That last one wasn't that scary it was... Heartwarming... In a weird way. All the spirit wanted was some light. And the night guard was nice for doing that. I'm sure the spirit will repay him one day! :)
