Just because you have gone through your items & have things to sell, does NOT mean that they WILL sell. I have drastically pared down my home & the majority had to be donated because it didn't sell & I still have a pile of stuff that I can't donate and have been trying to sell for more than a year. I have no control over that.

I'm working 2 part time jobs (30 hours a week each job). For the first quarter of the year I did a no spend challenge for eating out. I've cut my budget from over $100 a month on food out to $117.48 in 3 months.

Lots of great info. Based on today's staggering prices for eating out (fast food is no longer cheap nor fast). Family of four in the drive thru in front of me ordered breakfast at McDonald's. Their breakfast was over $35!! A couple ahead of me at Subway bought TWO foot long meals and their bill was $36. That is a $1000+ daily habit per month. Insane. My friend's daughter orders a Starbucks $6.75 latte before work every work day, five days a week. That's $141 per month FOR A DRINK. A lot of a little, IS A LOT. Thanks for sharing all the great advice.

I myself do not eat fast food. I prefer to make all of my meals at home . soooo much cheaper! I volunteer at a food pantry and I pick up food at Safeway that the store gives to us daily and I always see the same parents with their kids getting them Starbucks. Getting their kids Starbucks is very sad because it is so unhealthy and that is a lazy parent who won't make their own child a healthier meal. But the point is they are wasting all that money on garbage.

Fun story: one day our family was emptying our storage because of how high cost had gotten, so we planned a garage sale. Long and behold comes this guy dragging a cart full of clothes/shoes to the storage dumpsters. I ask if he was emptying his storage, he said yes. I asked to have those clothes if he didn't mind. My teens were mortified. 😂. The guy had brand name clothes/shoes. I added everything to my garage sale and $$$$! I made great money with his things!

I started reselling my own and thrifted items during the pandemic when my business shut down. I only made a few hundred dollars the first 3 months but then it took off and now I earn more than I did working for someone else. Plus I have no commute, make my own schedule and get to be my own boss. I live on 30% of my income and save/invest the other 70%...well over $1000 a month.

What is the problem I save a thousand dollars a month every month. Do not eat out maybe a pizza once a month I can cook and eat well. One subscription with Amazon because I get free shipping and prime video for about $12 a month. And even at that there is always money left over my monthly income is about $2200 dollars. My home is paid for and I am retired but it is easy to do if you get you priorities in order.

Okay, so you have no rent, you don't have a job that requires transportation, time, energy, wardrobe, etc. You have a lifestyle that isn't viable for most people. I'm younger -- it's tough not to have a mortgage/rent when you're in your 30s. I need professional clothes for work. Daycare for my kid. Clothes and food for my kid. I'm often too tired from childrearing and working to cook, and a meal out once a week is one of the few luxuries i indulge in. Unlike you, I don't get medicare from the state -- i have to pay for my healthcare because I'm not over 65. I see your point that people need to streamline their lives but you speak from a place of quite a bit of privilege, sir.

The title alone sounds unrealistic to me because I only earn 1.600 a month. (I do work part time, I would make over 2.000 euros if I worked fulltime. And I am single so.) Of course I have come to realise that American people earn a lot more a month. I see figures of 4.000 or 5.000 dollars a month and it just baffles me how they still don't earn enough money. But, if you earn 4.000 or 5.000 dollars a month then indeed, saving a 1000 of that amount should be fairly easy.

She's just giving examples. The thing is, there's tons of jobs out there that pay better than that. Most people don't start off at top dollar. Get good at a job with a good employer, stick with it for a while and they give you raises. I know of people that have jumped from $16 and hour to $25 an hour in a year just by having good attendance and showing good work ethics.
