Iowa Land Specialist Ben Harshyne purchased his first farm in early 2022. He immediately began improving the farm, specifically for whitetails. After drastically improving the habitat and food on the farm, he picked up a buck on camera in the fall of 2022 that he named "Bill". It wasn't until November 8th of 2023 that he would lay eyes on Bill and have an opportunity at a dream buck on his very own farm.

Great buck, great filming. HSS makes a climbing rope with a carabiner that stays attached while climbing up and down. Even make ones for two man stands so you can both be attached while climbing. I use them religiously especially with the kids.

Having confidence in yourself and your equipment make all the difference, in that moment especially at 15 yards that’s a hell of a shot. I don’t think everyone hating on the shot understand that if the shot was a few inches right it would’ve hit the sternum. Great shot and a great deer

Great story and glad your hard work paid off. We should all be humble enough to understand why you took that shot with the equipment you’re using; particularly after going to full draw and stopping the deer at 15 yards. I don’t know many folks that would’ve let him blow out of there after chasing him for 2 years and busting your tail and wallet to keep him on and around your property. Bow hunting is tough and it is meant to be rewarding and it’s unfortunate that KZfaq trolls feel the need to bash you! Congratulations and good luck next season!

Thank you for the kind words! We agree, the bashing of other hunters is something that we just don't understand. The shot was taken and the deer was harvested. Unfortunately not every scenario can be textbook like some people seem to think.

@Whitetail_Properties wish some of these other folks on here truly knew hunting before they commented. Neck shots are super lethal. Don't have much of a blood trail I get that and a neck shot can be difficult to track... but to say they are unethical. Nah.... aint buying it. don't listen to the haters, they hunt but probably support PeTa at the same time😅

Congratulations on a great buck. I personally like the real emotion, shows me how much you respect the animal and the true thankfulness. And personally if you don't have some remorse when you kill one of Gods beautiful creatures, you shouldn't be hunting. Its always bitter sweet. Thanks for sharing, all the people bashing you for the shot, imo everyone knows their own skill level and equipment, you made the shot and the animal died quickly, you cant really ask for anymore. Thanks for sharing.

Amen brother! It's unfortunate that hunters are so quick to slam other hunters. Like you said, know your equipment and skill level and make a decision in the heat of the moment. Fortunately he did expire quickly and was recovered - the two main things we hope for in every hunt.

I think the new research is showing that just because it’s a heavy arrow, doesn’t mean it’s going to penetrate. I would look into testing some arrows that have stiffer shafts compared to those full metal jackets. Yes the fmj is heavy, but it bends quite a bit on impact resulting in the loss of energy.

After reading all the negative comments, i bet you wish this didn't get aired. Seems like a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there with a jealous attitude. This old man watches a lot of these type of vedios. Did you have to take the shot. No. But you obviously were confindent enough in it to do it. You had a close enough shot to pull this off. At 20 plus yards, not a good idea. But here, i find you Not Guilty of taking a large risk! I've seen "The Hunting Public cover this scenario several times and i agree with them. As long as you're confident with you're ability, you do not deserve this abuse. I am not confident in mine to take this shot. But i don't practice enough. Many people make bad shots on ideal angles, and I'm guilty of this also. Great Buck. Congrats!
@Whitetail_Properties

We appreciate the kind words! We agree, too many people acting like every shot they’ve ever taken on an animal was perfect. Glad you were able to recover this deer but my gosh at such an extreme risk and potential undue suffering for the deer. I see this shot becoming more popular amongst bow hunters and I just don’t understand why. O I shoot 80 pounds with a 600 grain arrow it will get in there. Taking a shot on a deer with the thoughts of, I think I can, I might get lucky, or it should be able to are NOT acceptable. This was a fatal shot but was it an ETHICAL shot? No, absolute not. We as bow hunters owe it to the animals we hunt to take the moment of truth as seriously and ethically as possible. This was a poor example.

Cant believe Whitetail properties posted this video. Just goes to show u the desperation out there for people to put there face on video. TERRIBLE in all ways... including letting ur kid scale the tree with no safety precautions

A video on what not to do as a hunter. Terrible shot and you didn't have to take it. Listening to you justify the shot was sad. You got lucky. The tears were awkward.

Wow that was a crappy shot! You didn’t have to take the shot. Total BS statement there.

As a land owner, As a true hunter. And a pro, should never took that shot. Whenever you am your arrow to the front chest of any deer, meaning, you are taking a big risk, 20/100 of kill. Lucky you

This is terrible, had to take a brisket shot when he was coming on a string? This is exactly what not to do in this situation. Very unethical
