It's called twang and they did it beautifully

Sorry, but I can’t agree. I am a guitar player and audio technician myself. Twang is an intentional sound feature of electric guitar pickups you will most typically hear from Fender Telecasters. Piezo quack in acoustic guitars is the unintended result of systemic limitations of piezo pickups dealing with the complex vibration behavior of strings and soundboard in an acoustic instrument. Good EQing can compensate a bit but not fully, that’s why high end pickups nowadays also involve a small internal microphone as a second source. Recently new types of preamplifliers also make use of impulse response based sound shaping which results in a very natural sound almost comparable to studio settings with condenser mics. Again, no complaint against the musical performance which is absolutely brilliant.
