I'm just going to come out and say it here, I miss everything from 1980 all up to 1999. These were some of the greatest years ever when it came to commercials, tv shows, cartoons, movies, games shows, music, music videos arcade games, clothing, jewelry, Coloring books, holiday stuff and so much more. I am 100% completely proud to be an 80s kid. If I come relieve the whole entire thing over again, I most certainly would.

I was a child when these aired, and just seeing them again transports me back to a time when some of my departed loved ones were still around. There was always a TV on in the house, so I really associate it with family. Edit: as I watched more of this I realized even more why it is so familiar to me. This particular series of commercials appears to have been taped from a broadcast of Alice in Wonderland that I also had taped and watched repeatedly as a kid. I wish I was born in the 80's or 70's. You guys had an era to be genuinly proud of. Meanwhile, I like in what is the laziest, whiny and entitled generation of all time! If there's anything I feel it's that I am ashamed to have grown up in such a shitty era.

They still cooked their fries in beef fat for instance, so of course they tasted way better. I'd almost swear the lettuce on your burger was cooked in beef fat. I mean honestly that is kind of the theme. In the 80's they didn't try to pretend to be somewhat healthy food. Now all they do is pretend and are worse for you in some ways. Taco Bell used to taste better too. Not sure what happened there. Maybe their lettuce was cooked in beef fat.

@@TrackMediaOnly I’ll never understand why Taco Bell got rid of their cinnamon crispas. Man I loved that treat so very much! I began making them at home when Taco Bell took them off of the menu, but to be honest with you… They don’t taste the same, even though they’re yummy too. 😢 I don’t know if it’s because they used a different type of oil, or their tortillas are made different than the ones I get in the store, or what. I do know thought that their replacement cinnamon twists suck! Also, I became a vegetarian at 16 years old (in 1992), but before that happened, I used to _LOVE_ Taco Bell’s taco salads. I don’t understand why they got rid of them either (and I honestly can’t even think of one other restaurant that has ever had a taco salad on their menu before or since Taco Bell sold them)… Some years ago I got to thinking about that meal for some reason, realizing that it had been about a quarter of a freaking century since I last ate one! I missed that dish so dang much, so I went on a journey to create my own kick-arse vegetarian version of a taco salad... And wouldn’t you know, I mastered that shit! Even down to making the fried tortilla shell bowl perfectly, sans professional equipment! Sooo damn good. It was very interesting to see how much I progressed too... I started out by making a very bare-bones salad at first, with minimal ingredients (even including the taco shell part... because instead of making a tortilla shell bowl, I would use pre-made Ortega corn taco shells, toast them up a bit in my toaster oven to heat the shells up, and then break ‘em up & mix that into my salads). But then I began getting more and more creative and adding more and more ingredients... I made it absolutely packed full of protein, despite the fact it had zero meat in it. If anyone wants to learn how I make mine (or perhaps just get ideas/inspiration from mine to be creative with making your own vegetarian/vegan taco salad), here’s how I do it: __________________ Instead of ground beef, I make the base with a package of vegetarian ground beef (Trader Joe’s is my favorite brand - just use w/e is your fav brand 🙂), green/brown lentils, a mixture of sautéed diced green bell pepper/white or yellow onion and finely diced or minced garlic, a can or two of black beans (sometimes I substitute in a can of pinto beans instead of that second can of black beans), and a can of corn. Of course you want to season to taste as you cook it up (I just use garlic salt and lemon pepper, but feel free to use whatever you’d like - including taco seasoning of course [I’m just not a fan of taco seasoning is all]). That base mixture can all be stored by itself in the fridge to be used for multiple meals over a week’s time (just heat some of it up in the microwave when using as leftovers). To compile your salad: Take some of that fresh hot base mixture, and mix it up with a bunch of freshly shredded cheddar cheese to melt the cheese (never use pre-shredded from the store because of the anti-caking crap they put in it, as it prevents the cheese from melting properly), and then add one avocado (diced), diced tomato, sliced black olives, shredded iceberg lettuce (made by finely slicing the lettuce with a chef’s knife), sour cream, La Victoria red taco sauce, and mix it all up in a flour fried tortilla bowl shell that I make by frying the tortilla in a bit of oil for 50 seconds on each side, then immediately molding it into a oven safe saucepan or bowl with a potato masher to push the tortilla down into it to shape it, and sticking that tortilla in the bowl/saucepan into the oven on 350°F for around 12 minutes to bake. And FYI, it took a _LOT_ of time/research to find that method! Every other method out there that doesn’t use professional equipment absolutely *SUCKS,* and is _NOTHING_ like what the shell bowl should look and taste like - the texture from other methods is always a total fail. This method makes the shell 100% _PERFECT!_ It’s just like what you remember from Taco Bell. :) Doesn’t that sound delicious? That’s because it fucking is! And the cool thing too is that you really can make _MANY_ nights of leftovers from that first night’s work you put into making the base mixture. This meal is soooooo filling too! No joke. Enjoy!

@@trendel13 Yep, and they fried the french fries in formula 47 which was a mixture of beef tallow, and oil for maximum flavoring, now it's just a proprietary salt seasoning that they don't let you fully know what's in it, calling it a trade secret. I blame the environmental, and health wackos for taking away the good things in life. Fast food was not ment to be eaten all the time, just something you ate as an occasional treat, and that's the way my parents treated it growing up, where we would get it maybe a couple of times a month at most.

For those wondering why a bunch of suburban housewives were making enchiladas and why Cambells soup was making nacho cheese dip: The 80s was a time where Latino / Mexican foods finally became popular with the mainstream, but the old guard food companies didn’t know how to market it yet. A few years later was when all the salsas, dips, and whole aisles of Latin/Mexican/Hispanic foods became commonplace at the grocery store. Before the 80s, if you weren’t Hispanic, those foods weren’t on your average American’s radar much. I was born in 1973 and I didn’t know what salsa was until the 80s.

You're totally right. We never had Mexican food growing up. It wasn't around and wasn't a thing. Don't think I had my first taco til I was a mid teen in early 80s. Then all of a sudden it all became very popular. Rightly so. I love it. Except I do remember mom making a tamale casserole once in a blue moon in the 70s. Sliced tamales layered with stewed tomatoes, corn , cheddar cheese and Frito chips on top. That was good.

Oh my, I think I have some of these on VHS still. As I clicked the play button, I instantly thought about the old two vhs tapes with Alice in Wonderland pt 1 and 2. I sincerely did not expect to see it here and thought it was pretty obsolete. But I still have it somewhere in my Mom's attic and have thought about going over there to retrieve it just to document all the commercials during that time. I used to have nightmares of that dang dragon and remember the first time I saw one of those front lawns with the really small grass, that kind that is commonly used on golf courses. When I moved into a new area, one of my neighbors had grass like that and as a 5 year old (35 years ago) I have a clear memory of going to that house and knocking on the grass. Fully expecting it to be hard like on Alice In Wonderland. Dang the plethora of memories this just unlocked is a freaking gift, thanks for sharing this.

I'm 53 now. I was 10 years old when the 80s started, and I graduated high school in 1989. It is only really set in in the last couple of years how long ago the 1980s were. I didn't really appreciate it as much as I should, and I also fully realize we all look at the past with rose colored glasses. But it was a special time in america. I know that the late 1980s and the early 1990s were really the Zenith of our wonderful country. I'm not saying I'm ready for the grave yet, but I I am a new grandpa, and there is a special Nostalgia for the 1980s that I will never lose. I was lucky to be a little boy in the 1970s and the Teen in the 1980s.
