Thomas- I am 45 years old and was born in 1976 when Dr. Red Duke and Memorial Hermann Hospital started their Life Flight program. I live in Cassville, Missouri. When I was living in Monett at the time, I went into respiratory failure, I was Life Flighted to Springfield, Missouri at Cox Medical South Hospital by COX AIR CARE. I was 39 at the time.

That's great. 40 years of Life Flight has saved a lot of people. But, for our family, a 20-minute ride in a "Life Flight" ground transportation ambulance, from one Memorial Hermann hospital to Children's Memorial Hermann in downtown Houston -- just 11 miles for a child that was already stabilized, we were charged over $6,000, equivalent to a five-hour stay in the Emergency Room. A standard ambulance, which we were not offered, would have cost less than $1,500. Just out-and-out greed on the part of this "non-profit".

I agree with you. I had a similar experience and was able to negotiate a $22,000 bill down to $13,000. I would suggest offering them $1500 or no payment at all. I personally think "non-profit" entities are worse than for profit businesses...
