This lawn care business is struggling getting new leads, high amounts of debt and inefficient labor. Carter owns Rough Cut Lawn Care in Yuba City, California. I traveled down on my own dime to help turn his business around.

Carter is a legend to be so humble. Lots of guys his age won't listen to advice from people as well as he does. You can tell how honest he is being about everything he has done wrong rather than fluffing things up to make himself sound better. Excited to see him progress and continue to grow himself and his business.

A lot of these guys who look at Tigran and try to emulate him don’t realize he actually has the jobs and workflow to support it. He also has a grip financially on all his numbers. The work and reputation came first and the equipment and trucks followed, not the other way around

I actually don’t think he makes that much on his Landscaping, his real $ comes from Goat Gang and courses.
@arellanolawnandlandscape4378
@arellanolawnandlandscape4378 6 ай бұрын
@@marioa.garcia8222his program costs $100 and a while back he mentioned he has more than 100 subscribers so that’s more than $10k coming in a month. So I think this is where his personal salary comes from as well as well as things you see on his video like his luxury vehicles. And I believe someone (maybe Andes) looked at Tigran numbers and his profit margins were hideous. This is around that time Tigran bought an overpriced dump truck he never used and was selling it for way less than what he bought. So as Andes said, not everything you see on social media is true.

Mike , we need to see a “hand over the keys” style turn around video. Hearing what should be done is great. But how much more compelling of a story would this be to see a business actually turned around in a week or two? So much more value to see the actual process changes that are needed.

Pay for performance is good not because employees want to make more money. But rather they can make a normal amount of money doing a half days work. Start at 7 clock off at 11 and have a good little day in with enough time and energy to enjoy ten hours free time. Though it depends on the employee and their goals.

Then, those are not employees. When you have no projects for them, they'll have to find jobs them themselves, as professional services workers, to live. That's the issue when solo-preneuing, the dry-spells and how handle them while keeping the job force at ease, resting their livelihood on you as the boss.

The debate is between debt vs no debt, brand new equipment vs used, but I think this is the wrong angle. I think its about timing and ratios. The big mistake here was getting equipment anticipating growth, instead of through the growth. Maximizing capacity, getting creative about pushing capacity, then adding the equipment to right away fill the excess demand. And ratios. A mix of new equipment, old equipment, and rented equipment. As you scale larger you maintain that ratio of paid vs new equipment. You grew 100%, great job keep going!

How don’t these business owners understand how to grow a company. Say you have just 1 truck for all your jobs but can’t make it to all of your clients within a 1-2 week time period, that’s when you bring on more people and buy another truck. Don’t just start buying trucks because you see income but you don’t need it in terms of clients.

There is no chance his payroll is 4k a month with 7 employees. That is around $570 a month per employee not counting for the extra paid in taxes by the employer. Meaning each employee would be making around $6000 a year. Something is not adding up. Say he pays all 7 employees a 20k salary (even that is not enough to live on) his payroll would be well over 11k a month.

New trucks are probably the worst idea in lawn care!! they sit to high you don't want to use it like a work truck, you will have the same maintenance problems if you use it like you need to use it as a WORK truck. Don't get caught up being pretty boy lawn care. Toro and Echo are also a mistake. Moving from top worker /boss to manager /boss and growing the business has been the death of many good businesses.
