so electroboom said I should try what type of spark I wanted. The upside with high voltage low current ones like this is that we can adjust the frequency to make them quiet or even make the freqcuency of the spark match the note of the piano. these spark doesn't damage the strings nearly as much as the higher current disposable camera capacitors. Negative thing is these transformers start self arcing internally if you don't allow them to arc all the time and fry themselves. So I would look for more quality ways of achieving this spark. But Idk, the cameras have more of an impact exploation like spark vs the high voltage that is more like a lightning strike. what do you think?
@jesperhaafkes36352 жыл бұрын
There are these Tesla coils that make music you probably seen it, I don’t know if this is possible but can you use the string as a lightning rod and use a mini Tesla that makes a specific note. It will take a lot of energy but with 1m subs I think you can afford it 😉

Wear non conducting gloves. The current can jump to you without touching at high voltages. Work clean, If there is something no matter how small that can burn at the point of contact it will burn a significant part of the material away. So don't touch the wire and then zap it.

This looks really promising. Especially the sustained arc is really amazing. It might be a little bit loud in the end compared to the actual piano sound, but I really like that spark sound on its own. If you could actually manage to match the frequency of the power to each string that would be crazy. But this is probably also hugely more effort than just wiring up all strings to the same power source. I like this much more than the sparks of the camera circuits. I think it also looks a lot better on camera.
@MattiasKrantzshorts2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Once I realised this could be possible I’ve had trouble resisting the idea because it would just be too good. But probably take a long time to accomplish
@MattiasKrantzshorts2 жыл бұрын
So the sparks could be quiet if they work in an inaudible frequency for humans but then you can also pause the sparks super fast in frequencies to match the strings. At least that’s how I understood it

To safely trigger the hight voltage, you could install a switch, like a limit switch with a little lever (are links allowed here?) under the key itself, where you press it. The key would turn on the high voltage and play the note, but shut it off, when it is no longer pressed. I will include an example below.

@@MattiasKrantzshorts If you don't want to risk starting a lithium fire it might be a problem. A dead short can rapidly discharge the cell to below safe operating voltage, and if it gets too low the cell can go into a thermal meltdown as it starts developing internal shorts due to chemical reactions inside of it. I'll follow up with some links to BigClive's lithium teardowns where he can go into much greater detail than I can.

@@kmemz He is only using them as a power source for the transformer, not shorting the cell itself. Those things draw pretty low current from the cell, it is completely safe to use them. Lighting an LED stripe with it is as dangerous as this, if your concern is the battery and not the high voltage.

Some of the cables can not withstand a lot of voltages you need to get better cables for higher voltages.Quality cables have rating that they can handle the amount of voltages.
@gobbel20002 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, a cable does not care that much about the Voltage alone. High current is what heats up a cable which can lead it to melt if it's too thin, but I'm pretty sure the point of this experiment was to have low current with high voltage.
@moredots2 жыл бұрын
The cables are probably making that sound because their insulation is nothing close to enough to isolate >5kv. Just by the transformer they're very close and current will be leaking between them right through the insulation. Can you share the circuit?

playing with high voltages can be fatal. I think that's enough to stop a heart. please be careful. it might be a good idea to put a warning in your main video about the dangers. a lot of people use transformers from microwaves which are extremely deadly. like one shock and you're gone. I'd hope batteries and a camera transformer would be safer, but I wouldn't make that gamble.
