Hey, I know this is about a 4 year old video, but it helped me fix my 3000 Ford. I was having exact same problem. Thank you

My first years on the planet were on a horse farm in Connecticut. My first memories are literally a big blue Ford tractor where I sat on my dad’s lap as he mowed for hours with my hands on the steering wheel. I still remember the smell of the grease and the oil that had leaked on the hot engine like it was yesterday. I was 2-3 years old and I’m 48 now. Once again Sir, you can fix anything, good vid and good memories.😊

I believe that is a vent on the steering box. If fluid is coming out, that usually indicates an internal seal in the box is leaking. This fix will certainly stop it leaking on the ground and won't hurt anything.

Funny how it was originally designed, your fix seems very sensible Jerry. Thanks for posting.

As a kid on the ranch, I never had power steering. I had to stand up and steer it like a captain in the wheel house. Nice video and glad you got it fixed. Nice restoration too. :)

I am trying to fix a bad leak on my power steering on my Ford 5000. It looks like the pressure relief valve is leaking, but one comment said that no oil should go down into the bottom chamber and it needs a seal, but then the oil lines go right into the bottom chamber, so that doesn’t seem right. There are many different styles of power steering units and I am trying to find mine on KZfaq. Thanks for your video.

I've had similar problem on a 4000D. Steering got abused constantly, always ate stub axle bearings.That was back when Pontius was a pilot..... Thanks Jerry.

I have a 1963 Ford 4000 Select-O-Speed; has the same problem. The relief bypass in the PS pump is not working properly (with age and wear). I rebuilt my PS pump and steering gear assembly and made the problem worse due to increase in pump/pressure capacity. This relief (as I understand it) can be adjusted, but I can't find data on it; not even in the Ford Shop Manuals! I have replaced the PS cylinders also, and learned that I can rebuild the originals (but I damaged one of them; maybe I can have it machined and fixed.) I've had this tractor 22 years. It sat for 7 years and didn't run, so recently I totally restored it, converted to neg 12 v system and electronic ignition: no more starting/charging problems. I have more money in it than I'll ever likely get out of it, but I would love to see someone buy it who can use it, or show it. I'm retired and soon to be 74, and I don't need a tractor anymore. Gotta love them ol' tractors!

Jerry Rosa: "Folks, please stop sending me your tractors for repair! I just can't work on any more of them right now. Thank you." There's a song about Jerry -- 'Man of Constant Talents' ...LOL. Most work on a farm is NOT about simply growing crops or feeding livestock. Trust me.

nice job on the repair ! I'm redoing one now , I'm looking to replace the small steel lines from power steering box to the cylinders , any ideas where to buy those ? yours appear to be steel and rubber from what i can see , I think there interchangeable with 1/4"brake line if i cant find the right ones .

It's a vent cap, you'll have a seal at the bottom of that shaft that's gone. Massey's have the same thing on the top of the planetaries that get knocked off which lets grit into the bearings and destroys them. Check your 35, not sure if they have them or not but if it does you want them to be in good condition.

I know this video is over 1.5 years old but I have been looking for info for the power steering pump on my 1962 Ford 4000 4 cylinder gas engine..it looks like this one on this tractor. I believe its an Eaton style pump with the reservoir on the top of the pump..is this correct calling it an Eaton style pump ? and if it is an Eaton style pump does the reservoir have a filter in it,and or does it come with one from the factory ? My tractors pump is leaking from the reservoir so I took the lid/cover off the reservoir and the seal that I can see and have taken off the bottom off of the inside of the lid/cover is old and just does not look like it can seal any fluid in to keep it inside of the reservoir once I tighten the clamp to hold the lid/cover. I have looked for info on Google about this to see if there is supposed to be a filter inside of there to maybe help contain the pressure or relieve some pressure so it has a lesser chance of leaking and haven't found much info yet..but I have seen the pump can be an Eaton style or another name I can't remember right now but it says the Eaton stlye has the reservoir on top of pump and the other style has the reservoir on the bottom or side of pump..so IDK what to do and I need to fix this now...it blows fluid out and its only coming from around the pumps cover/lid. After watching the video again I see you are calling the pumps fluid holder the "return bowl"..thats what I am calling the "reservoir" in my post..I hope that helps. Anyway Thank You for this video..good information here.

Hello Mr Jerry , I have a question about gluing a saddle. I bought a new Gibson historic series Advanced Jumbo. From what I understand the vintage style long saddles were glue in place. I was changing the strings on the guitar in the saddle fell out. The saddle moves extremely easy so I was wondering if I should glue it place
@RosaStringWorks
@RosaStringWorks 4 жыл бұрын
If it has a lot of play in it it probably would be good to glue it. I always prefer them to fit real snug generally no glue is required.
@johnblevins1330
@johnblevins1330 4 жыл бұрын
Yes sir , there is ALOT of play. Literally you push the saddle left and right when there are no strings in the guitar. I took the strings off and was detailing it and when I turn the guitar to clean the back, the saddle fell in the floor. Thank you for replying back so fast to my question. I’m a big of your work and I watch all of your videos, they are informative , entertaining and fun to watch. Thank you again and I hope you have a blessed day sir 👍

It is a hot air vent very similar to rear axle vents in cars and trucks. I wouldn’t bypass it and make it a closed system. When heat builds up and air expands in the system this vent functions to relieve the pressure instead of blowing air/fluid out past the seals. Btw, use liquid gasket for the top of reservoir and yes, there is supposed to be a filter in there. I have the original 1964 owner manual for my 4000.

Hey Jerry, love all your videos, just wondering though, have you ever though about changing your intro mandolin piece, just seems so mournful, kinda like a funeral march, maybe a jumpy little happy into? Just my thoughts, keep up the good work and be safe. P.

my 3500 developes a leak in a different place everything I use it.hoses, pumps, frame crack hydraulic leak, loader tubing leak,, you name it , it has broken, Ford truly stand for fix or repair daily. Ford deliberately designed things to cost you, all the way down to the odd size 7/8"hydraulic hoses feeding the backhoe. What a nightmare it has been. Ford sucks. I have had to make special tools to work on every part. 6 different tools just for the 6 different rod and packing nuts on 4 different cylinders.
