I don't know a single 4090 owner that actually has this issue. It's definitely user error. Notice how the majority of the damage was on the upper pins? Almost as if the side of the case has pushed the wires from the power connector downwards causing no full contact with the upper pins...

It isn't a manufacturing problem. Go watch Gamers Nexus extensive testing video on this. By far the most in-depth, comprehensive lab testing and analysis done on the issue. 4090 pulls like 350 to 400 watts with a small and weak connector, this is a design flaw

The specs push too much so it have very low tolerance. If 1-2 pins fails and mating incorrectly at high resistance, although it will not cause much heat because of resistance, other pins are taking more loads and get heated up, now it's a cascading failure, all pins doom to failed of 1-2 pins already failed.

Cards can handle overclocking, but the cords can't. Power issues. I just built a new PC and haven't had this issue, although I don't overclock the GPU. And I have the new deepcool PX1000G 1000w PSU. 3.0. Gen 5 with the 600w 16 pin single cord 12VHPWR so I don't have to use the splitter cable that comes with the GPU.. If you don't manually overclock the GPU in MSI afterburner, I think it is fine. Just enable XMP on bios set up and you basically get a good performance anyway.

Excellent strategy Alex . Too much solder is good for 2 reasons . It will be a stronger joint and it will be cooler temp when carrying the same current compared to Ngreedias skint factory soldering . However I wonder if you used low melting point solder for the new connector. Otherwise could the same board connector be a bigger hassle to replace a year later because of excess solder??

I bought a 4090, oddly enough the connector at the GPU didn't melt but the connectors at the power supply unit did melt. I even bought the special cable from NZXT to go from 2 connectors to a single one so I didn't have that crazy adaptor with like 8+ connections installed.

Does more power connectors mean less chances of melting ? Like on the galax 4090 hof ?

Wonder how the warranty cases are working when buying a prebuilt system? It ought to be harder to claim that the user did something wrong, if the user bought the system complete and never had to touch anything inside.

Can't help but feel this problem has been incredibly under-discussed. If any AMD card had this issue you'd never hear the the end of it. But then again, I've always said nvidia's greatest asset isn't their cutting edge tech- it's their marketing/viral marketing department.

Why is this not happening to the 4080 super the 4080 Super OC from ASUS or Gigabyte pulls almost the same Watts as the 4090 and sometimes even more depending on the workload so its confusing why the 4090 connectors are the one melting but not the 4080’s or 4080 supers’ connectors any one can explain ?

Northridge i love your work bro always have watch almost everyday but can i just make this point that iv had a 4090 since lunch and its being no problem what so ever i feel that most of the cards you have to fix is cuz most people are not cooling there pc enough when they have such a powerful card in there i guess i could be lucky but mine has never being a problem and works flawless but i have 12 fans a big case a liquid cooling which tbh if your spending 2g on a card just go the extra mile and cool it correctly. love ya vids bro just thought i should say this :) also im using cable mods cable not sure if that make diff but works no problem

I’ve been using Lian Li V2 on mine for over 7 months no problem! They do get really hot within 2 minutes upon start up. Good thing I went with Gigabyte version that has 3 Fans! Gotta keep them fans running on all the time!

An other nice repair done here more and more 4090's are getting these issues especially now which is almost 2 years after they launched. Even though I am curious to how long these repaired power connectors last, some tell me that you need to use an ATX 3.0 power supply, but even these won't make much difference right? The PCB date of that RTX 4090 card you are working on read 4122 meaning it was made during week 41 of year 2022 :)

Of course they are! 600W on a 6 amps per pin connector… that’s 8+ amps per pin. The only fix is to reduce current (reduce performance). This is exactly what those 4 extra pins are for.

One of the reasons I just bought a 4070 super on this connector, it doesn't eat as nearly as much as a 4090, making it really ideal for the connector
