You think this could work with 9 instead of 6, with out making the icons too visually small? I want to use something similar to this, but I feel 9 would look too clustered on a slide.

Better make it 4 of left and 5 on right...9 on single side will look clustered.

If you are a window 10 user, you can use snipping tool to grab the colors and paste it on to left corner of your slide.. If not, you will have to search for alternative softwares similar to snipping tool.

Hmmm..May be the case, i never used 2010 version, so i suggest you to upgrade office version.. Currently 2019 version is running in market.
