Monster Stihl MS 880 Chainsaw, cutting uprooted oak tree off the stump, This saw is so big I carry it with a tractor. I carried it to the woods with the RK 24 Subcompact Tractor. Dangerous Stump flops back down and Melissa helps me seal the beautiful log with Anchorseal.

Melissa and Mike! 👍 It is so fantastic seeing a couple who are interested in so many of the same things and work so well together. Seeing your mutual cooperation is part of the reason that I love your channel. So many spouses don't realize how important it is to work together and have the same goals. Thank you for the example that you set! 😁

Mike and Melissa... it is always a joy to watch your videos ...because you're always "cut'n up" with one another (turning felled trees into firewood-- pun intended) ...and when Melissa "goes downstairs". Mike... you're a truly blessed man! Practicing humor is so important in marriage! :)

This is off topic. But I wanted a place to share this wildlife story with you. Crows are scavangers. But they have a system. When they find road kill they call in their mates for the big feed. And they post a lookout in case of traffic. Now here's where scientists became interested. It seems that crows are killed almost exclusively by trucks. Rarely by cars. It seems that it is a linguistic problem. The lookout crows easily warn the ones in the road: "Caw!" "Caw!" But they can't say "Truck".

That Red Oak is/was a mighty fine hunk of timber. Produced a lot of firewood and lumber, that last hunk - wow - 4101 lbs. Impressive number of board feet you will get out of it...have fun having a cut up time with it. So that is where that attachment came from. The man did a fantastic job on it. You will get a lot of use out of it in time coming.[Yes - I from the future, 9/8/19] Time Traveled into past to view this one.

Watching that blade go through that log I was thinking it might be a tad short. It was at the widest spot you had maybe 2 inches of saw blade left sticking out. When the stump settled back into the hole it sort of shook and settled comfortably. What a hoot to watch.

If you want a lighter weight saw, get a 661c-m. They can run a 41, but the longest recommended bar is a 36. That 880 would be good for milling logs like that into slabs.

As soon as you said that Tom was a steel fabricator and Tom's wife said you needed one , I knew exactly what Tom made and brought for you . The one that you have now is a borrowed one . It will certainly be put to the test with a 4,000 lb log . And it's painted red . LOL .Nice of Tom to take the time to build it and nice of Tom's wife to suggest building and delivering it . I tip my hat to the both of them . Good people they are . Great video .

Hi from OAMARU N.Z. Hey that's not stihls biggest saw. Stihls biggest is the legendary rain forest depleting 090 saw without the fancy safety whatnots which was actually my dream saw. On the tractor you should make up a wood splitting attachment that will replace the bucket if needed. And just use the hydraulics of tractor to run it. Also use a p.t.o winch from a wrecked Toyota Land cruiser Prado or old Nissan Patrol linked hydraulics drivin again by tractor hydraulics just to winch up logs to splitting area.

Another " home run " guys! The opening scene with that monster saw in the bucket had me rolling! Great idea sealing up the log ends. It should produce some beautiful boards for future build projects. I thought it was most gracious of the oak stump to lay back down flat again btw. Just a thought, perhaps you can oil based clear coat it & make a nice place to sit down overlooking the pond the way it does. The stump will rot out from the inside out over time, but it should take many years I believe as maybe not in your lifetimes! The clear will also bring out those absolutely beautiful grains too... Bill... :~)

Typically, diameter is measured at dbh (diameter at breast height). Breast height is 1.3m from the start of the root flare. In forest meansuration, a d-tape (diameter tape) is used by going around the tree (circumference) and converts to diameter. Of course at tape across the butt works when measuring across the butt of a log like you did.

Great video. You may want to cut that stump close to the ground, put four casters on the bottom and donate it to a public building like a seniors lodge - it would make a very interesting moveable table/display piece. If you put a clear seal coat on it with significant year dates, it would make an outstanding conversational piece... Michael from Canada

Just FYI the log in the pond will season better then air dry. The water will take the place of the sap then when you pull the log from the pond the water will come out of the log easier and not cause the cells to crack. This is great wood the make musical instruments from. because of the cells are closed the sound is richer. This is also how they aged wood in Venice and some of the best violins come from there.
