I had a small home based knife business about twenty years ago . Sold Cold Steel (best comercial kukri) and one from Ontario Blade ( if my memory is correct ). They are great choppers , but that is all they are suited for . In my personal collection I had a "long leaf" kukri from the Napal armory . Some guy bought all the antique weapons in the armory and ran sales through Shot Gun News . Most kukris from India and Pakistan were junk . Occasionally kukris from the British units of Nepolese would show up ... they were pretty good . Don't know about today .

In my experience the traditional made kukri out of Nepal are your best bet. Most others lack distal taper & therefore don't handle correctly. The balance ends up being either too far forward/too heavy or too far back/too light. The Kukri is meant to bridge the gap between tool & weapon so it should have proper balance.

I carried a Cold Steel Special Projects Kukri back in the 90's while in the Army had it strapped to my ruck never failed me ,great to clear fields of fire for my M60. then while working as a contractor it went in my duty bag and was always close by while working in the Embassy, but when it did come out the Arabes really respected that blade and no 1 wants to get hit by it and too this day it still hangs close by and gets used for brush work. Also got an org. 1940's British Army Issue 1 that is a must get if you can find a war time 1 IMA - International Military Antiques has many Org ones if you want a real deal Original Nepalese Kukri from the early 19th century to more modern issue

The legendary blade of the Gurkhas... What a machine! The kukri sure cleared a number of Natzi heads during WW2. My personal favorite is by Cold Steel. Thanks for this review. Take care!

Sweet! I own two OKC (Onterio knife co) they to me are the best. They’re made out of 1095 carbon steel. 12 inch blade ,16.7 inches long, 1/4 inch thick. Full tang made in the USA and it looks like military spec. I’ve used in the brush and to baton wood. It keeps a great edge and the finish seams to be great as none of it has came off. The best in my opinion when it comes to a made in the USA kukri.

Kukri has been my go to blade since the early 70s. I love it most all tasks to include dressing out animals. Four inch blade to 17" love the crap out of them.

When I am out and about I usually have one of my khukuri with me. This one the shape of the handle (not tang design) makes it a no go for me. Kailash Blades makes a wicked traditional khukuri and they have some awesome modern designs as well. My very first khukuri type blade was the Kabar Kukri Machete and it is still going strong after years of use, it recently got a kydex sheath. I even have my Nopealope that I co-designed with Shade Indonesia a couple years back and absaloutely love that one! The sirupate style is a more combat oriented style of khukuri and a lot of fun, I have one designed by DML of Sundog Forge in Australia. I should actually pull all the khukuri out and remind myself how many I have.

My Lafontaine thrower has replaced my 12" kukri for most tasks, because it is a more convenient and much handier size, but I still keep that 12" around for camp clearing and yard work. I find kukri knives indispensible and always keep one with my camping gear because they bridge that gap between machete and hatchet so well. I have never thrown one, but there's a KZfaq channel, "we all juggle knives," I think, that has a fellow throwing them quite effectively. There's a sweet spot on the blade of a kukri that you will find. It works by drawing the target back towards yourself as you cut into it - difficult to explain but easy to show. If you like the kukri blade geometry, you might end up owning more than one, because they size up to jobs kind of like your wrench set, or golf clubs..

I first fell in love with kukhris in the 80's when I saw Jean-Claude Van Damme use one in the movie Cyborg. Currently I have only two, but I will probably be getting another one soon 🙂

My first was the Smith & Wesson Bush Hog, that I found in a garage sale. The first time I used it, I was hooked! Takes a little warming up to the extreme angle, however, they are seriously effective! I would recommend your next one be a bit thinner, perhaps. I mean, ESEE’s new kukri is pretty much exactly what I’m thinking for you. Don’t know about throwing em, when they’re that thin. I actually broke my S&W by throwing it. My current go to, is my Becker BK21 Reinhardt. It’s lovely. I wouldn’t mind one from the kukri house in Nepal as well. Now those can probably handle the abuse of throwing! Suckers are thick and strong

My favorite knife. I have a 5 Chirra which is a beast and a little heavy for quickness, but full tang. Look up ww2 Gurkhas to get info on how serious these are. I also have a ceremony type one that was gifted to my father-in-law from a friend in ww2. If you really like them then check out real makers like Khukuri House and you'll find some serious blades, many full tang. There is also a Cali based one that I think was formerly with Khukuri House. If you like them then get a real one and not a pretend one that doesn't have the proper curve. Sorry, not hating on the video, it's just so many "American" type companies try to sell blades and call the Khukuris, but they are really sellING versions of a smatchet or bolo.

I have a Marbles brand Kukri, made in Pakistan of MR619 steel. It was priced around $35.00 2 years ago. It shaved the hair off my ankle right out of the box. It's a bit heavy at 1 lb. The handle is dark brown wood with a palm swell and is very comfortable to use.

The best one out there in my opinion is the Origin Knives Woodsman. It's basically a kukri tracker combo, really sick. You can see it in action here on KZfaq if you do a search for it.

little fact about the Gurkha & there Kukri knife during WW1 when they deployed in a sector the Germans learned to fear them as they sneak into the lines and cut the heads off sentries and put them head back in place on the body so when the relief showed up it would freak them out when the head fell off. the British army also ladder laced their boots and the germans didn't so thats another way they could tell in the dark friend from foe. so you got a little felt up before losing your head lol

I just got a kabar modified tanto and the curve of the blade I think is the best for resharpening. I hope some day you can review that knife specifically that blade shape. Once again, great video! I have many Khukuris. They are a funny blade. If that’s all you used, it would become useful but I find them awkward to use. I have 6” to 16” Khukuris. I chopped the side off my left index finger with a Condor Kukri, my finger was sitting on the blade.😂 It healed perfectly. I tend to use my bowies before my Khukuris.

Cuts from my knives are NEVER painful. They’re all extremely sharp and the cuts heal very well. I had my first external stitches recently and that hurt more than the cut to the bone. I generally Dr myself. No more stitches for me unless it’s essential.

First let me say, you pronounced Khukuri just fine, Not to worry. Second, in said movie you mentioned, yes the Khukuri in the right hands is the most dangerous knife ever known. It even beat my Kabar USMC knife, and I love that thing. But the Khukuri is just brutal. Third, actually the Khukuri was designed and created at an agricultural tool first, and a weapon second. Fourth, people in rural Nepal still carry a Khukuri when they go out. And lastly, yes I am a Khukuri collector, but I get mine directly from a shop in Nepal. All of which are hand made out of 5160 spring steel. As for the handle, that one you have is pretty much correct. A full length rat tail tang. However, the shop I get mine from is now making full tang versions of traditional and military Khukuri’s. And they are more then just choppers. Use the fattest part of the blade to chop with, and the inner curve, near the handle for slicing and such like. A good Khukuri is more then a tool and or weapon, but a friend in the field, when you need it.

Kukri do not need guards. The guard is a western thing people here need to ses,but the more you use a kukri the more a guard gets in the way. The origin of the Kukri is the Greek Kopis. Look into the Sirupate style. This is the way.let the real design speak to you.

Check out Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri Plus, Condor Tools & Knives Heavy Duty Kukri Knife or Condor K-Tact, WTG Nightmare III. Reasonable higher end Kukris that will last you a lifetime. My opinion stay away anything from Nepal but if you want a Kukri from Nepal do your research on the company you buy from. Stay away from water quench and make sure they do a full oil quench not just the edge. Stay away from Nepal made Kukris.

@@411Outdoors Nooo, real Nepal. You won’t be disappointed. Try the “Fast Kukri” about 2/3 lighter, and a few options available. I know Condor has good products, but missing particularly is the spirit in these factory blades. There are several families that make Kukri there, like the long line of Samurai sword makers, but at a very affordable price.

I've got one Kukri, it's the Condor K-tac . I've had it for about 4 years and i LOVE it. I love the subtle tweaks to this design and the back story behind this particular model (ie; Alan Kay on Alone) . The kydex sheath it comes with is on point and very versatile for different carry arrangements. I finished / polished mine to a mirror finish (love-hate relationship there, it's a LOT of flash in the eye on sunny days). But looks V sexy. I use it for bush craft / bush carpentry. Can build pretty much anything with this one tool, out in the bush / camping environment. It's a serious chopper. The recurve section is a Great draw knife. And it's still nimble enough to gut and process fish and animals. If you're thinking about getting the Condor K-tac, do it. You will be Glad you did : )
