All the props to Patrick Devers, a 40+ second PR plus breaking a 42 year old NCAA record is incredible. The top 10 ran absolutely amazing times so Patrick is a very very very deserving winner.

@@mikemagyar3222, right. Mantz's best was 28:18.18 before this. He's a junior so we can expect him to do better next year. That was a heck of a race. I can hardly imagine running like that for almost 1/2 hour.

What a great race. The cool weather led to the best 10K race in NCAA Championship history!!! Congratulations to Dever, Mantz, Nur, Brandt, Hamer, Masai, Hicks, Wildschutt, Mwaura, and Rodriguez for going under the old meet record of 28:01.30

Mantz’s attention was on Brandt being on his shoulder and so he shift to right side of the first lane since it’s kind of hard anyways to hug the first lane when you’re kicking. But Dever was at the right place and the right time and just has to hug the first lane and one more gear to take this one. So many moves, admirable finishes.

Congrats to Dever on running a masterful race and getting first! It should be mentioned that among the many reasons that set up the massive meet record from several athletes, the biggest one has to be Connor Mantz. He has never slowed down to run a race tactfully, and likely never will. He goes balls to the walls every moment, from the gun to the bell to the finish line, and if you want a chance at beating him you have no choice but to do the same.

@johnwilson5743
@johnwilson5743 3 жыл бұрын
In most Countries Universities are places of academic study. They DO NOT offer scholorships for students to play sport. The entire USA system is based on NCAA sports. So if foreign athletes want a "free" education, and they are very good runners, one way to get that is to accept a free ride scholorship at an American University. The US system is based around Colleges competing against each other and collectively. So the Colleges lure athletes from outside USA so they can get better points/results. It works well for sprinters BUT, sadly, destroys many middle and longer distance runners. Mainly by forcing them to over-race. Multiple event for sprinters are ok. But making middle/long distance runners compete in two of three events per meeting destroys most of them over 4 years. Also, making them compete both Indoors and Outdoors adds to the stress and over-racing. From the evidence we see, approx 90-95% of middle distance runners "retire" as soon as they finish College at around age 24 when they wouldn't hit their peak until late 20's/30. They get burnt out.
