I was getting out of my Granada at a Wimbledon meeting back in 1989 after being followed in. The marshal indicated it was safe to get out so I unstrapped and was just about to jump out through the front window and got jacked big time. I just managed to get back in the seat with no belts on when the car hit. Luckily no injuries but I have seen a few drivers pinned between the car and fence at the original Aldershot track.

KieranMonday a shot like that wouldnt of caused much injury didnt see the marshalls do much. that happens quite regularly now

Like kyran thomaspalmer said. You are much safer staying in the car in till the marshalls tell you, you can get out.

From my point of view as a marshal I bloody hate it when drivers get out there cars, I've seen some lucky escapes I'll always remember one lad, jumping out and me grabbing his hand and pulling him over the ropes seconds before 2 cars piled in to his car..

Scottish Gamer No we never tall drivers they can get out of the car during a race,I've had drivers shouting at me "is it safe to get out?" and I'm shouting back "no I'm not going to say it's ok to get out" The rules have changed this year anyway and drivers cannot exit cars during a race, which seems to be working so far, in the meetings I've worked at so far this year they're sticking to the new rules, I think it's an instant ban if they get out during a race..

He would've been more safe inside the car (90/100) than this situation (50/50). Here he was lucky
