In the second half of part one, I prepare the Overdrive section, air check the drums and prepare the case, next week overhaul the valvebody and then final assembly of the transmission. Thanks for watching. Off to the shop

yes, this one i did over a weekend so almost 2 full days, as always thanks for watching, anything coming your way for a rebuild?
@CubasAutomotive3 жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro yes. My plan is to bring my "backup transmissions".. i have 3 700R4s. I figure I will rebuild those for YT, as I can't seem to slow down enough to be able to record "jobs". A unit comes in, torn down, reviewed, then washed up and sits aside while parts are on order. Then it's "get it together" and install it. No time whatsoever to be able to get footage. I'm sure you can relate. Time is of the essence. I can't be "rushed" on my own units. It's what I'll have to do.

I watched your 42re videos , and several other 42-44-47-48re videos on KZfaq , and there seems to be a bit of a debate on the methods of how to set the overdrive clutch clearance with the selectable shim. you said about .100 clearance, and some other people have some different methods and they say that . .100 to .150 clearance is required for proper clearance. and myself I'm just a bit up in the air on the subject, I have a 1995 rear wheel drive jeep 42re that I'm working with and I want to use a overdrive section / tail housing from a 1997 four wheel drive 42re on it , and I want to make sure I assemble it correctly so That It works proper and I do not damage anything... I wanted to ask you what you think , because I have watched your videos and you do nice neat work, and you obviously have experience with these transmissions,. I have have worked on or rebuilt several transmissions in the past but never a RE series other than band adjustment and filter change maintenance.. Thank you . Tim from Wisconsin .

i hope your going to install this unit soon because i just seen you build it dry. that little bit of shit you used aint going to save it from rust if its just sitting like that . good luck sir. i just rebuilt mine watching, precision transmissions in youtube. im happy to learn somthing from you as well sir.

I always read the clutches need to be pre-soaked in trans fluid. Has there changed something or is this a question of "believe"? Thanks in advance! Edit: Reading the comments under part 1 of part 1 already answered my question ;)

Hey Gary what causes convertor shudder on a 07 6r75 ????
@jmathis32 жыл бұрын
Gary would it be possible to just drop the valve body and pull apart the front half of the trans to replace the direct clutch seal to get the reverse/2-3 shift fixed? I’m trying to nurse a 42re for about 10k miles until my vehicle gets delivered and don’t really want to spend 1k on a full rebuild.

What kind of grease is the blue and green? I'm thinking about rebuilding my '96 model 42re. It seems to be slipping and grabbing between first and second. Slip grab slip grab then grabs and shifts as normal thru third and fourth. Any suggestions? Thanks
@GaryFerraro2 жыл бұрын
2nd gear is the band, make sure the adjustment on the outside is not loose and did not back out. The grease is Trans Gel, it melts when gets hot, good stuff

I have a problem that i hope you can help with... I have a 95 grand Cherokee with the 42re. Its shuttering real bad when put in drive at an idle and at times wants to stall, it feels like the converter is trying to lock up, i replaced the converter and still have the same problem. When i dropped the pan to change the filter there was quite a bit of metal and pieces of what looked to me like it could be the material off of one of the bands, they were straight, thin and about an inch wide.

Seems like you know what you're doing so I have a question for you. I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota 3.9l 2wd and I I have noticed that when I go up hills the truck starts to have converter shudder and feels like it's pulling a lot of weight. I have taken to Amoco and they've rebuilt it twice in the last hundred miles. The truck was released to me again and same problem. I always notice the problem between 50 and 60mph upon entering a hill or if I lightly press the gas pedal you will feel the shudder. Any ideas?
