Finally made it over to Klong Prao and wow what a beach! Perhaps Koh Chang's best? (subjective and I'm still partial to Klong Kloi - see prev vid). Also caught a fantastic sunset then hit Kai Bae for a bite and a look at the cafes and bars along the main strip (+ more, as always;). Hope you enjoy. Links:

MsNootchanat, thank you for sharing your poignant yet beauty filled memories. You're fortunate to have seen Koh Chang pre sealed roads. I did venture down to Long Beach (on said road) and as a 1st timer it was almost idyllic to my eye (a place where if one stayed long term you might regularly say 'what happened to last week'). I hear they're set on punching that rd on thru to Klong Kloi, thus opening a circular ring rd (but also opening to more traffic...) It sounds like you've had a rough go, so hang on to the best of your beauty filled memories and may you make more. Take care, better days ahead. STL

You mention Charlie’s Huts on Samui a lot. I stayed just down the beach from there at Jah Dub (they had the Jah Dub beach bar) and the huts behind - I spent almost 9 months there and they were the best times of my life. My now husband was staying at Charlie’s Huts - we met on Samui right before a Full Moon Party! I still look for those Charlie’s Hut/Jah Dub vibes when searching for accommodation and would always pick that over a fancy resort - people think I’m mad, but it’s what I like : )

Was on Koh Chang 18 years ago. Your video brings back lots of memories. I need to visit again! When I was there 18 years ago, I met a couple who were visiting Koh Chang after 15 years after their first visit. It’s amazing how much Chang has changed! It used to be super hippie and more rustic with lots of unsealed roads. Has Koh Chang managed to build a road around the island now? Because you couldn’t ride the whole island in a circuit when I was there.

Hi R d, you're so fortunate to have those memories! There's talk again of finishing the road between Bangbao & Salakphet (it seems more when than if, sadly for lovers of the tranquil east coast). Actually only encountered some at the more isolated middle stretch and only along the top of the beach (tree line and high tide line, where they hang out btw). Simple remedy: in any non-raked / non-maintained beach, instead just walk along the lower beach shoreline and you should be ok. Also, wear a repellent esp around ankles and if bit, DO NOT SCTRATCH, apply that non-steroidal Systral cream and itch will be gone in seconds. So no worries Shirley boy, you can still enjoy without being a flea/mozzie buffet ;) STL

@SideTripLife 2 жыл бұрын
Thx Chris. Regarding malaria, some perspective: 9 cases in 6 months isn't really a massive breakout. But for sure a slight concern (particularly if hiking up heavily forested hills etc). If one is overly concerned, then travel to Cambodia, Vietnam etc is also out, plus much of the tropical world as other places have more cases. Myself, I just apply some common sense precautions and get on with it. STL

Mosquitoes carry you away at the Klong Kloi lakeside resort? No desire for mosquito related diseases. 🤣 Such peaceful and beautiful areas.
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 2 жыл бұрын
No worries Jody, few mozzies at Klong Kloi even lake/klong side. The only place I encountered sand fleas (their itch/mark way worse than mozzies btw;) was on an isolated little used stretch of Klong Prao Beach. Even then, only at the top of the beach as high tide and tree line foliage etc was not cleared on that stretch (that is where sand fleas love to hang out). So, if you're on a 'natural' beach with high tide line debris and along the tree line fallen leaves, foliage etc, just walk on the lower beach shoreline instead of at the top of the beach. Also use a bit of repellent esp on ankles and if bit DO NOT SCRATCH, apply a dab of that Systral cream and itch will be gone in moments. STL

Koh Chang seems beyond my limited motorcycling skills... I wonder what other transport is available? Self Drive car rentals?... pushbike hire? I don't mind a bus ride but like to get out and potter around like you :)
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 2 жыл бұрын
I get that Paul, wise too. Can also use the local Songthaew pickup taxis - look for the one's designated 'public bus' (sign in windscreen usually). They generally go round a route from main ferry pier to WhiteSand Beach and all the way down to Klong Kloi, then turn around and repeat. Currently the public sogthaews run on a loose hourly circle (more frequent in high/normal season apparently) but can flag other shared sogthaews too. From the Ferry to Whitesand Beach is 50 baht, all the way to Klong Kloi 200 Baht (not bad really). But these run mostly daytime hours (and some into the dinner hour). After dark it's every taxi & tourist for themselves ie: you negotiate a ride, essentially hiring the pickup. So best bet is meet others at your locale and herd-up to get a ride together and split the cost. I'm just a 1st timer to KC but hope this helps. STL - EDIT TO ADD: Can also get a car rental in Pattaya and drive to KC, cheaper but reliable older Toyota Vios etc. Have a look on FB marketplace.

In 1886 imagine the looks on the faces of the council of Vancouver when Stanley Park was proposed: 'What, there's forest and tress for as far as the eye can see, why do we need a park?'.... Sure glad it passed and Lord Stanley sealed it, what a beauty and right downtown. Should add, I'm also for logging in now designated areas & with best practices (great, now I'll get blasted by both sides lol;) Generally stay in a place as long as I can to see as much as I can, on KC about 3 weeks (had to go back to do stuff but will return). Recall last year I left for Khanom just for a long weekend and then didn't return home to Bangkok for almost 6 months... so ya never know. STL

@@SideTripLife Hah yeah, that was quite a long weekend for sure! As for Stanley Park, absolutely an incredible bit of foresight to designated it a park area. I just added a 3rd month to my time on KC. Is nice and peaceful here and cheap as all heck. In a absolutely empty resort with my own bungalow and the pool basically all to myself for 7000baht/mo

@@SideTripLife No issue at all....this is actually my second 7000 baht/mo place now. First one is on the quiet side of the island and is at a lovely place with a beautiful pool and restaurant. That one is called Koh Chang Fueng Fah. Current place is just outside of Lonely Beach at a place called Faye Orchid Garden Resort. Nice bright bungalows and a good pool although the pool is not as nice as Fueng Fah, although this is much closer to everything else.

Hope you film your rig, would love to see it! Looking at your channel it appears you know your way around windy hilly roads in Thailand. The corkscrew seen in my vid is probably the tightest turn on KC (there's another just after the ferry). But i'd say if you're rig is around B Class campervan-ish length 6M/19' or so it would be fine. STL

@Trippin Out Thanks, kinda. Ok, so at the time (May 2022) I quoted Sylvan Beach approx 2000 thb and so just re-checked agoda for today and Sylvan Beach goes from 2124 thb cad / 75 cad . Dewa I quoted at the time 1700 thb, today 1350 thb. But point taken, prices do and will evolve since rona or otherwise (seasons, weekends +months/years later of course...). So, should I not quote any prices then? Just curious. Glad you liked other aspects of my vid, hope some of the info was helpful. To a fellow BC'r, cheers eh;) STL

WiFi was fine but of course fluctuates depending on how many others are using at same time, etc etc. Best get an unlimited sim card as back-up, or primary. Then you have fast reliable internet to tether your laptop etc to in your room, at the beach, wherever.

Still, not bad considering that was at a top western restaurant on a beach resort main strip (and imported beef innit;). Meanwhile just round the corner at the nice Thai restaurant shown, Pad Thai was 50 Baht/£1.15. In London at Bangkok Lounge restaurant (known for good and reasonably priced Thai food) order Pad Thai and expect to pay £8.50/370 Baht ... On balance, inexpensive local Thai food (and an imported tenderloin once in a while for a treat) plus decent a/c hotels under £25 or even modern condos with pool/gym in Bangkok under £300 month, Thailand still a relative bargain imho. Cheers, STL

lol, will keep a close eye on my potassium levels and blood sugar but I reckon a banana a day is just fine thx. Btw 'tilapia' dave, since you seem concerned about adverse health effects, just a heads up on your namesake: "A study revealed that tilapia contains more omega 6 than omega 3, with a ratio of 11 to 1. Higher omega 6 means an increased risk in asthma, arthritis and other inflammatory conditions as it is notorious for causing inflammation inside the body." However, again, I reckon a non-blue Tilapia every now and then is also just fine :) Cheers, STL

from Google Translate of image -> Turmeric, Jarrow Formulas NMN (claim 125 mg NMN/serving -> 122 mg NMN/serving), I don't see CODE AGE NMN in the chart I'm looking at, trans-Pterostilbene is the one I'm wary of. Something tells me unless it's being used to allay some medical condition, it's to be avoided, even if it's marked as safe.
