$439 GMKtec NucBox K5: Re-Hashed K2?!? [Comparison Review]

In this GMKtec K5 Review, we check a powerful Mini PC that uses the Ryzen 7 7735HS processor. As the K5 shares the same CPU as the GMKtec K2, we compare and see what exactly is different.
We run benchmarks, test games, try out emulators, Batocera Linux, and see what's under the hood.
This Mini PC can be found both directly from GMKTek, AliExpress and from Amazon (links below).
The reviewed unit is the 1TB 32GB model.
All models outside BAREBONES have Windows 11 pre-installed, and would only recommend the barebones version if you have good knowledge regarding computers.

An interesting thing to do on these mini PCs is to remove and merge the system partitions, but I don't know how to do that.

Very entertaining Tim, great info, I've got a K6 coming over in the next week or two, my daughter will get the K1 you recommended (great little machine but had an opportunity to upgrade and Serena gets the mini beast, win win). I like the way they have repurposed the older chip in this K5 and actually made improvements. PS, my daughter in on the last chapter of Yakuza 6, great fun game, but who in their right mind made the next two games turn based...WTH!!! Free flowing action game turned to RPG...ahhh...At least there's more PROPER games as well.

Hey, thanks 😄 The K1 is a good little machine, as is the K6. Today I played a few rounds of Fortnite on it to get enough of them vbucks so we don't have to pay for next season's Battle Pass. Yakuza, such a good series. tbh I don't mind the battle system change that much, it's a nice change of pace- but that Yakuza Zero was just TOO GOOD. Might try Judgement, maybe? Maybe not. MAJIMAAAA! TBH I have a feeling that GMKtec are wanting to push the TDP for that competitive edge in benchmarks. Personally, I'd rather it stay cooler and leaner, then optionally have the options to push it. - It's probably the reason why people say that these models are loud because of the higher-than-spec TDP at default. BTW: AMD's suggested TDP for the 7735HS is 35W, and I saw it mentioned "35-54W" on notebookcheck.net. It's a bit odd to say, but yeah, "Quiet Mode" is the sweet spot ^-^/

FFS KZfaq moving the comment section to a small part to the right of the screen. NOT EVERYONE USES A FRAKING PHONE FOR KZfaq! Anyway, good video as always. It's not a bad pc at all. It's not the most powerful PC or anything, but if I could afford it I would easily consider getting it as my main PC to replace my 2014 laptop. It does make me wonder when the "880m" will appear though and what performance boost we are going to get. Fascinating. Off topic, but I had no idea Zool was released for the Gameboy. Very interesting.

Zool was definitely released on the GameBoy, and it's a pretty fun release too! And yes, any 680M / 780M PC I'd be quite happy with as a main computer. Runs most games, would be able to edit videos, all good!

Oh wow! Thanks for the subscribble! We've already got a complaint in another comment 😂 - Saying that, it took 5 hours of lyric writing to get it sounding half decent. - and then extra for the editing and karaoke subtitles. Um. It takes a lot out of me for one video I can tell you 😂

We've not had a motherboard get fried from any mini PC that we've had on the channel. You should be good 👍

There's one that I think I am gonna buy with good specs for my music production projects. AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, 32GB DDR5, 1TB SSD but PCIe unfortunately with the ability to upgrade to 64GB and additional 1TB SSD. My question mate, what about the thermal issues of this mini PC? I'll be doing heavy DAW work in it but I am concerned about heat.

When gaming, your PC will have more stress on it, so you'll get more heat. DAW needs mostly CPU power, you should be fine tbh. ✌

MathS dear boy. I only really need the teabag size comparison. The rest is wasted time. The box is not too bad overall. The USB 4 port on the front will likely have appeal to some with the 40Gb protocol for external GPU usage. As the the closing music, TOTP it will never be and I would not miss it in the future. Eurovision might accept it next year though.

LOL...Right on the nose..As for TOTP, gawd, some of the rubbish I've heard on there over the many years, would rather have Tim's creation every time :)
