We sail for a thrilling adventure from Kinlochbervie to Lochinver, and we unveil the results of our lobster pot catch against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Northwest. Join us as we harness the power of a fresh NW breeze, navigating through the pristine waters from Kinlochbervie to the commercial fishing harbour of Lochinver with its quaint marina.
Lochinver hosts the annual Highland Games, a celebration of Scottish culture and athleticism. In this video, we bring you right into the heart of the action, witnessing local and international competitors engage in a series of traditional heavy weight disciplines. Marvel at the sheer strength and skill displayed in the hammer throw, shot put, caber tossing, and weight over bar competitions. Don't miss the bagpiping and the grace of highland dance competitions, adding a touch of tradition to the festivities.
Kathrin embarks on a challenging 30km hike from Lochinver to the summit of Mount Suliven, the crown jewel of the Assynt region. On the hottest day of summer, Kathrin's physical and mental endurance is put to the test. Experience the breathtaking views, feel the burn, and share in the triumph as she conquers the highest peak in the area. After over 7 hours of exertion, Kathrin returns to Polaris, our floating home, exhausted but with a heart full of joy.
Whether you're a sailing enthusiast, a nature lover, or a fan of cultural celebrations, there's something for everyone in this adventure-packed episode. Join us as we uncover the wonders of the Scottish Northwest, witness the thrill of the Highland Games, and conquer the heights of Mount Suliven!

A fine video. Must be well over 45 years since I first did a Suilven circuit. Ascended from the south via the waterfalls of River Kirkaig then back via the northern side, after a complete traverse, back past Glencanisp Lodge back to Lochinver. A magnificent day out, sadly I am now too old to manage it again but the memories ( of several ascents ) still remain.

It‘s memories we build that count in the end! It was too hard for me too, and I am possibly a few years younger… but Kathrin enjoyed it tremendously despite it being a very tough hike. Thanks for watching!

31k that is some walk. Stunning well done you. I thought you had hit the jackpot with the lobster. Better luck with the next one. We like to sail but spend just as much time exploring as we do sailing.

That‘s our idea of cruising too… we take as much joy from exploring new places, cultures and history as from a good day sailing… it‘s the combination of both that keeps us going.

That is a "feature" of vertical windlasses that we were unaware of! Does it happen often?
@sailingpolaris
@sailingpolaris 3 ай бұрын
No, it happened only once so far and I believe it is due to the long shank of our 33kg Rocna that is going to the limit of what can be fitted on our bow. When pulling it up we have to be careful that it comes in fast and ha no chance to bounce back and lever the chain over the pulley.
