The Railway Touring Company's multi-day 'Great Britain XVI' would depart London on Saturday 13th April, on the journey across the United Kingdom. The train would travel through the South East, before heading up to Scotland via the Cotswolds, West Midlands, and the Settle & Carlisle Line. Following a few days in the Scottish Highlands, the train would return to the Capital, via Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Central Wales.
LMS Black Fives Nos. 44871 and 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' would provide the motive power for the vast majority of journeys on this tour, with SR Unrebuilt Battle of Britain No. 34067 'Tangmere' taking charge on the 15th April, on the section between Lancaster and Carlisle, via the S&C.
The final day's proceedings for the tour would take place on Sunday 21st April, with 44871 heading the final leg of the 'Great Britain XVI' from Swansea to London Paddington, travelling via Barry, Cardiff, Gloucester and the Golden Valley Line, before joining the Great Western Main Line at Swindon for the run along the Great Western Main Line, via Didcot and Reading.
Following the water stop at Milton Junction, 44871 is seen storming through Cholsey Station, on the final stretch to London.
