This is not true. There are no blood diamonds anymore for more than 3 decades. More than 90% of the mining output today had been taken up by giant mining conglomerates. Most rich people buy it for investment.

1. It is illegal to sell organs so your comparison is out. 2. Even if you went on the black market to get a heart, lets say for a transplant. You'd find it way way cheaper than 45 million.

I think the value of the stone is more in the cut chosen and the immense amount of work to facet it.. esp if done by hand.

You are right. Vivid blue in emerald cut is extremely rare and difficult to cut. This together with its size is why this stone is so rare.

Paper has value because of what you can do with it. Records keeping, arts and crafts etc. Diamonds as jewelry have value for no reason. If diamonds had value for their applications they would be cheaper than paper which is useful.
