Wouldnt make much sense. Its only a challenge the first time when its an unknown. Now when its picked and gutted and you know exactly whats inside, its not a challenge. Thats why there is no such thing as "practice locks" and you practice by having countless locks, so many that you cant remember the details of each one and thus its always "new". Picking the same lock repeatedly doesnt do you much good unless you are a complete novice, but even then you'd getting that lock open in under 10 seconds by the end of the first day and will have learned everything that lock can teach you. Its easy to learn how to pick any particular lock open, especially if you know whats inside. Its only difficult if its new and you dont know whats in it.

@@rolandlee6898 My level of lock picking knowledge is next to none but at the end of the video he said "I might still try to see if I can catch this in a single pin pick but I don't have any confidence so I'm gonna throw this video up and if I can do any better I'll post another one." if what you say is true why did he make that statement at the end of the video? Not to question you because I know next to nothing like previously stated. I'm just wondering how those two statements can co-exist I guess.

Theres a fair amount of times. The lock skateboard was certainly a slightly more recent one that stands out to me. Back when he was starting to gain traction but certainly nowhere near he is today a company made a skateboard out of locks bearing his name and logo for him to send in to one of his favourite channels. I'm not sure they appreciated it quite the way LPL did, but it was an incredible creation which excited all of us with this channel at the time.

@@appalachiangunman9589 Thats just how his early videos were. Every single one had a low key voice and tone like this, I guess he wasn't used to speaking on camera back then. It was always a very low key affair with only a couple of viewers and more than enough time to reply to all of us, as you can see by the old comments still around. There are just different standards for a channel with under 10k subs and a channel with millions I guess. He did get better far before his channel took off, but certainly back then it was well behind channels like bosnianbill in sub counts and viewership, with an exclusively locksport audience so people didn't much care for the ASMR.

@@TheBmxHD Depends on where you live. In Russia nobody picks a lock for instance, it's brute force or nothing, but there's other places where you might see some basic picking, raking, and jiggling, as well as shimming. School lockers are frequently locked with pretty cheap and vulnerable locks, so theft isn't unknown in those circumstances.

I see this "keeps honest people honest" cliche on so many of LPL's videos despite how ridiculous it is. How is this not common sense?

I see what makes a formidable lock after watching lpl for a year. Quality solid metal casing, effort put into the pins to make them extreme as well as unique, and very importantly strict tolerance. I'm not a bad guy either, as far as picking anyway. My last was opening the front door of a six million dollar home in Santa Monica. The buyer took the keys knowing that at least four different crews had pickup work to finish and thought we would all stand around and wait for her convenience. I was a hero that day. Less than five minutes to get in and no one told the homeowner how we all got in. I wish I remembered what lock it was so I could find out my skill level or that locks quality. I don't think I'm that good just an interested amateur.

If you hadn't studied the key hence knowing the keyway, would it have taken you even longer to open that padlock? For example, I've just put a new core in my Kasp 19070XD, (bottom plate still sits flush, anti-drill plate minus pins still in situ) if I don't tell you what I've put in it and don't show you the key, is it going to take you a month of Sundays to open it? Anyway, you still have megga skills 😮, I'm not saying you haven't 😑. But to go in blind on a padlock, is that a longer story?🤔

There would not be extreme bitting variations with normal factory supplied keys. There are generally 10 depths but adjacent pins generally be the shallowest and deepest cut as the shallow cut would be undermined. so manufacturers set a "Maximum Adjacent Cut Specification" (MACS). This is often 7, but with British Yale traditional consumer grade nightlatches etc is 4. It is possible to make a key that violates the design MACS with steeper angle cuts and almost completely undercutting an adjacent cut. It is sometimes possible to use an 11th depth where the pin is on the shear line with no key inserted. It may be possible to drill the pin holes slightly to create an extra depth but this weakens the key. Hence an evil minder person could pin a cylinder that is harder to pick than any cylinder pinned in accordance with manufacturers specifications.

Ok, forgive me for not knowing this but I've never known why you would put serrated key pins, any chance someone could help me out with this?

If I had to guess, I imagine they result in false sets. Where the serration catches on the shear line which makes it seem like it's set. Then you'd have to give some counter rotation to release it and probably any other pins that ARE set.

I have watched so many locks get defeated so quickly here, even with amazing keys unlike anything I have owned. This lock took two experts a month! Perhaps not “unpickable” but close enough by far!
