I had a friend who had a 4-53 in a Ford pickup back in the 90's. He was a fireman in Long Beach CA. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine when he brought it home from Bakersfield empty. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine pulling his trailer and full of stuff. I don't think he kept it very long. Sure it had pulling power, but a 7.3L would out pull it, and was much quieter. Another friend has a 2-53 running a generator in his off grid home in the desert . Very loud engine. But reliable and strong!

Best way ever, away with the tugboat anchor and run old school diesel. Like old mechanics say , diesel is for power and gasoline is for washing parts
@ROTAXD5 жыл бұрын
Carlos Chavez yet the 460 “boat anchor” they pulled made more torque & hp than the detroit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a GM guy & I love my 2stroke detroits. But these guys are going the wrong way. If the truck is too small to stick a 92 series in...you need a bigger truck.

@michaelbenoit2482 жыл бұрын
ROTAXD, the issue is that the 460 gasser won’t last as long as a 2Stroke Detroit nor will it run as efficiently, & cheaper to fuel.

What a great father son project! Thanks for posting, have a few Detroits and find them very interesting engines an engineering marvel really. Clever intake with no valves to worry about! They all run clean and do not smoke! No computer = small carbon foot print because you do not have to throw away and build another engine every few years.

Babylon falling : 1977 Ford. Factory installed at Detroit dealer (Mesker) all mods were done there ie: front end beefed up, shocks replaced and other things to make everything fit properly. I’ve driven this truck for the 77k miles that is on it, never a problem. Just to old to have anymore fun with it. Also comes with a brand new short block still in the crate from Detroit.

Need to back out the buffer screw, turn the low idle screen out. Start engine. If it doesn't idle in it's own turn in a quarter of a turn at a time until it runs on it's on. It will be hunting (revving up and down) when u find the point where it 650 rpms at the top of the hunt (highest rev while idling) set the jam nut on the low idle screw. Turn buffer screw in until there is no more the a 50 rpm difference in the hunt. Wamo bamo. Low idle set. Hold wide open Throttle and check high idle 2200 rpm is fine but dont be afraid to go to 2400

Oh one other thing if you aren't already aware, you want to be running some kind of fuel lubricity adder to your fuel. EPA's low sulphur fuel was designed to have lower lubricating qualities to kill motors like these so you'd HAVE to buy a new piece of shit. Simplest solution? 100:1 walmart supertech 2 cycle oil additive.
So loud it set off a car alarm 😂 ive only done that with an open headers 350

Very cool. I'd be curious what this combo has for torque and power as you have setup. But even more curious is the mpg and what kind of payload you figure it can haul. I don't know what the operating RPM range you're running so I'm curious if you're making more than 20 mpg with no load. DD are just so cool sounding. Nice conversion!
