If you treat it as listening practice you’ll actually get a lot better at listening, listen to it once without the captions, then go through with them (misty just look at the Spanish ones, only look at English if y out don’t know the word or phrase, or to see if you’re right) you should pause a lot during this point then go back thrice after a sentence to REALLY get it down, get how everything sounds and how certain phrases sound mashed together. Take notes too. Once that’s done listen to it twice without captions, then again with. After two or three exercises like that, gradually speed up the video and listen to the three exercises without stopping or pausing, going back or skipping. Let it play out. You should have little portions memorized by then and can fill the rest in as they come, I’d say don’t exceed 1.75 though, as that seems unrealistic. Then this’ll help for when spanish speakers IRL talk you you fast, you know how certain phrases sound that fast. You repeat this all the way to the end of the video. Extended: I’d say do this with five podcasts, then move on to listening to another one with the speed starting on 1.25 and never slowing it.

To those of you in the United States learning Spanish who are complaining about the woman's way of speaking: I say you'd better saddle up because most Spanish speakers here talk just like that. I don't know that I've heard any people who sound like the man, like he came out of a Spanish textbook.

Not entirely. Many native speakers do sound like the woman in the video, but there are many natives who speak more clearly and just as fast. In other words, it depends on the person. Plus, the girl sounds sloppy (and emotionless) even in the beginner lesson video (especially with the horrid weather forecast), and there are native speakers who have complained about her. I'm willing to bet that if the man were to relax his intonation a bit, he'd still be understood. The same cannot be said for the woman. She is just not a good fit for these lessons, sorry.

I disagree, this is intermediate level spanish and natives don't care if you're linguistically challenged. They will just speak normally and normally spanish is more chaotic then this. It's more confusing due to the expressions as well as the pronunciation and also the speed. I would say this is pretty tame to be honest. If you have problems with this, you're going to have SIGNIFICANT issues, especially if you have a job in the country requiring you to have good comunication skills.

Thank you! This might be useful for our Spanish group! I like that the speakers don't "speak down," they "slur" the words as you often hear in Spanish. One has to get used to hearing a lot of spoken vocabulary to begin to hear phrases properly, because often whole syllables are left out; or the end of one word becomes the beginning of another. This isn't "sloppy" pronunciation, it's actual speech. We do it in English all the time.

@@prettyyoungthingpyt5015 Reading it is the easiest. Listening to it it's pretty hard because you have to really focus. And it's harder if a person talks fast. I'm a native spanish from Spain and the use of prepositions and somes of others words doesn't have sense for me. This is latin-american spanish; we can understand each other, but it's really strange to see how they form some structures so, depend on what are you looking for with your spanish lessons, this video could be a waste of time. For example, in the minute 07:03 he said: "¡Claro! El salario se ve genial..." and nobody in Spain will say it in this way, here we say: "¡Claro! El salario está genial..." Then, she says :"Claro, yo soy buena andando en bicicleta", this in Spain would be said like "Claro, yo soy buena yendo en bicicleta". In the minute 7:25 he says: "...o empezar en la tarde.", and we would say: "... o empezar POR la tarde". We don't say, in 7:39: "...sería bueno trabajar...", instead we use: "...estaría bien trabajar..." And so on, as you can see, almost everything change. So maybe is complicate and depends on what are you looking for. So don't strees yourself if you learn something and later you see another way of seeing it, because it depends on in which country are you. I hope I can help to clear out!

I’m Italian and I have a degree in foreign languages. I’ve been studying English and French for 10 years and sometimes I still struggle with the listening comprehension. By contrast, I think Spanish is very similar to my native language. He estudiado español por un año en la universidad, but I succeed in understanding almost everything 💛

That’s not good, I’ve been studying Spanish for one year and understood every single word. But I’ve also been living in Spain for a year so I have been learning quite fast.

I agree, my girlfriend is Spanish, and many of my friends. I’ve been living in Spain for 15 months, in the northern part of Spain where almost no one speaks English. I can understand pretty much anything someone says to me. I can pretty much speak fluently with what I know, but obviously you’re not going to learn all vocabulary and verbs in one year, that’s impossible.

I'm taking spanish 2 in highschool and I could only understand about 20% of it. I do duolingo every night but if I didn't I probably would only be able to understand about 5%. Someday I hope to be completely fluent

In Spanish the verb "aplicar" is not used when someone is requesting a job. The expression "aplicar para un trabajo" is used by people who speaks Spanglish. The correct expression is: "postular a un trabajo".

Learning Spanish as a Portuguese native speaker is just taking a shortcut, y'all can't convince me otherwise. also learning one of these is like a "buy 1 get 2" y'know... (it's all fun and games until you say "voy a coger la buseta" to latino friends...)

Very nicely done. I am curious what country/what accents we are hearing, because I like to place the accents. ( If I were learning English I would like to know "this is an Irish accent or Great Britain or United States accent" or for even more fun "this is a Georgian accent or Minnesotan accent."

The idea is excellent. The lesson plan itself is really good. Having said that, you would have thought that the producers would pick a lady with clear Spanish pronunciation. One has to strain to hear what this lady is saying. She swallows her words.

Once again I say Congratulations to you.
