Time to retire 3 old mowers. Hopefully, this new Honda will be my last mower....? It sure doesn't have the one fatal flaw of the others...

I just bought this mower and it is fantastic. I use it on the full mulch setting, works great. The hydrostatic transmission, rust-proof deck, and blade cut-out is why I bought it.

I am very pleased with my new mower. Super rugged and comfortable to use. The only thing I can say I don't like is when I use the grass bag, the clippings clog the attachment area where the top bag brackets hook to the mower. I have to clear out the area before hooking the bag back on... kinda a pain.

Hi Esteban! Awesome news. You will love the machine. This is my fourth season using the mower and if you change the oil, filter, spark plug, and blades it should work just as well 4 years from now as it does out of the box. I'm hoping this is my last mower, particularly since I just purchased a Kubota Z411 that will now do the heavy lifting on grass mowing going forward. Thanks for watching!

I just bought the same model. Didn't figure that I needed a battery which is the top of the line model. This model is the 2nd to the top of line and will meet my needs just fine. Just an FYI but after this year Honda is no longer making lawn mowers. They will the parts, but no longer the mowers. So if you are on the fence about getting one you'd better get one !! Looking at the dusty handle bars resembles my new HRX. This mower turns what ever it is cutting into dust. I have never seen a mower do this. After my first mow my machine was loaded with dust. The power of this big engine and the two blade system make it a dust machine. I will definitely watch the air filter closely. For it is a basic air cleaner when compared to the Honda GX commercial engines. My only disappointment is not having my old Toro’s Personal pace system. Honda’s system does not compare in my opinion. Nice video!

I got the very same spec mower, just the EU version called HRX537 HY. It is a great premium mower, Been using mine for 1 season. Personally I prefer the etanol free fuel from Aspen (alkylate fuel). The mower doesnt like to start at cold temp like winter temps etc. Carb are cleaned, and chooke are working 100%. Greas season temp, it will start on 2 pull most of the time. 1 pull over 25c degress.

Brilliant mower I work with honda mowers for years I sold a model like this in Ireland an had to replace the crank shaft the customer hit a rock with it was about €200 for the shaft alone an u dont have to take the engine off to replace it the fly wheel comes off an the top cover of the engine comes off. the deck of the mower is made from a single piece of zeni plastic that's why it's so expensive. Iv never had a deck break been selling these for the last 10 years.

I have the Honda HRN216VYA the model with thumb control the cruse, will I should say "I had, past tense." I order it from my local Honda power equipment store. I used the beauty 3 times until some jerk took my Honda mower. I am now going back to the same store but this time I'll be spending just shy of a grand for Honda HRX2176HZA, this has eletric start and roto stop blades. My other Honda that got stolen it too had roto stop blades and I really loved that feature, no shutting down the mower, just shut off the dual micro cut blades to empty the bag or if i want to take a rest. Honda has a deal going on now, instead of 3 years of warranty on SOME Honda Mowers one will receive 2 extra years making it a total of 5 year warranty and the deck on my piticutller Honda will have lifetime warranty. Yes if your do all the routine maintenance on your Honda, it will be the last one You'll ever have to buy. Honda mowers are the top of the top line of all mowers. I highly recommend Honda as your goto lawn mower.

These decks don't rot there a life time job so that doesn't make sence to me. Iv been selling these mowers for the last 10 years an never had a deck break only blades of crake shafts it's important u get the first service because the gears need to be greased up an cleaned if not the pinion will wear away on the shaft of the gear box an u will need a replacement gear box could be about €400 alone for the gearbox so yearly servicing is very important an keep high pressure water anyway from under neat this will also cause the grease to wear away especially from the clutch an dry out the drive an cause problems best of luck 👍but yes honda do not cover if u hit something like a Rock an damage the deck

So far so good.

I bought my HRX217HZA last year and put a major amount of work into her before my first mow. Last year.... Installed a tachometer/hour meter. Essential for maintenance interval up keep, in my opinion. Installed a magnetic oil dipstick to catch all the break-in slag, in the oil. Threw the Honda oil in the trash and used Royal Purple break-in oil, then switched to Royal Purple 5W30, after the break-in period. Plasti-dipped those silly looking, off white wheels, Graphite Pearl, to match the deck more closely. Installed a striping kit from bigleaguelawns.com to get beautiful stripes in my yard. Installed a genuine Honda edge guard kit on the deck to keep it from getting scuffed up. Named her Kathryn. I put together a maintenance log book and keep meticulous records on her. Every time I mow, an entry is made. Plus, it allows me to keep a running tab on the hours I'm putting on the engine, in case the hour meter fails. It's battery is already very low. The hour meter keeps my maintenance intervals precisely on schedule. I bought a shop manual for her so that I can perform any and all maintenance on her myself. I don't trust her to a shop. She's an electric start, so I bought 3 extra keys and "HONDA" key rings. And a pair of Honda work gloves. This year..... I built a big workbench in my garage, specifically to do all maintenance on Kathryn. Bought and installed an electric hoist in my garage to lift her onto the bench. She's heavy as hell to begin with, and the stripe kit adds another 20lbs. Changed the spark plug. Changed the oil. Changed the air filter. Had the blades sharpened, and bought a second set as well. Finally, added a push broom head to the stripe kit to make the tall fescue lay over even more, for better contrast and deeper stripes. There's a short video of Kathryn and some of the mods I did to her on my page. Cheers! P.S. non-ethanol fuel only, of course, and I spray her down with the garden hose, scrape under the deck with a plastic putty knife, and dry her off with a linen towel after every mow.

@@homesteadpilgrim I'm only slightly obsessed with Kathryn and my lawn. Before last year, I had a $20 yard sale special and a trucking job that had me home on the weekends. I live alone, so more often than not, I'd come home and it would be raining all weekend. So 2 weeks would go by before I could mow with that horrible thing. Last march I got a gig that has me home every night. The first thing I bought was the Honda. Then, I just started watching the KZfaq lawn community videos and learning as much as possible. Kathryn is the nicest machine I've ever owned. Top of the top of the line, and the best residential, walk-behind mower available to the public. So I take pride in her.

Dang you’re making me feel bad for wanting to get an HRX just because they’re awesome and my current mower is a great mower especially compared to what you are working with. I have a pretty big yard and it would be nice to mow a lot faster. I’m in pretty good shape and my toro recycler just feels SO slow. Plus sometimes I want to mow the other side of the property and it would be ideal to not have the blade running in transit. So i would get one with the roto stop. They’re all on back order now. My local Honda dealer has a waiting list of about 15 people on it and the big box stores don’t sell them. Just the smaller 170cc models.

The last two mowers I've had were rear discharge and for bagging, this is the best method by far, IMHO. The bag stays our of the way during maneuvers around landscape and less clogging because the larger size of the discharge from the deck to the bag. The clippings do accumulate at the top where the bag hooks on, just have to continuously brush off the clippings so that the bag hooks on securely.

I have a 5 year old Honda steel deck mover I scrape down the underside of the deck and keep the topside clean after every use . I change the oil every spring with synthetic oil! This mower still looks & runs new!

Thank you for the warning ⚠️ to Californian. It’s a deal breaker for me
@homesteadpilgrim

You are welcome. I also saw a warning to Californians on my new tractor top link I ordered on Amazon. It warned of cancer and birth defect risks from the top link! I'm beginning to think that we are all doomed and everything we do is a step closer to sickness, loss of eyesight, limbs and ultimately... death.

If I'm in California, will I get cancer just by looking at this mower?
@homesteadpilgrim
@homesteadpilgrim 4 жыл бұрын
Well, from a Californian's perspective, (I'm not from Cali so I'm riffing here...) I don't think it matters if you are from California or not, but I'm sure from a Californian's perspective... I believe they think that anyone who actually is within several feet of the mower during operation are are at a high risk of cancer, the actual operator of the mower is downright doomed. The good news is, I don't think that just looking at the mower from a good distance or via the internet is a high risk, but California statute should elaborate and address your concern. I am almost positive that viewing the video will NOT cause cancer... so you can feel safe watching the mower on the internet. This is only my opinion and should not be considered expert advice...

@@homesteadpilgrim yeah i guess i just always liked the looks of the old ones. The one thing I wish honda would do is add a deck wash like Toro. Thats the only area toro has them beat otherwise Honda is the best 21 inch mower out there

Your mowers were worn out when you got them. You leave them outside in the rain. And you act like it's the mowers fault.
@homesteadpilgrim
@homesteadpilgrim 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, no, I never let mowers out in the rain. I'm not blaming the mowers either. LOL. Two of the mowers were brand new when I purchased them, the old red one was second hand for $25. It earned the money I spent on it. I guess my point of the video is that the Honda is an awesome mower! Thanks for watching!
