In this video, we're testing heavy pellets vs. light pellets with the BRK Ghost airgun. Ever wondered if heavier pellets perform better in less-than-ideal conditions? Watch to find out the shocking results! 🌧️
We'll be shooting three different heavyweight pellets at 25 yards and comparing them to the AA Fields 8.4 grain pellets, which were top performers in our last test. Despite the windy UK weather, we'll see if the heavier pellets make a difference. From Barracuda FT to JSB Exact Heavies and Bisley Magnums, we’ve got a thrilling pellet showdown lined up!

Hi Jeff, It's nice to see you again and view your latest instalment. I was pleased to see the JSB Exacts do very well. Although, I like the Bisleys and BSA Goldstar. On the advice of a very good gunsmith, I've stuck to what he advised me to do with pellets. He advised me to use the lighter 8.4 gr pellets in my springers and the heavies 10.34/10.65 grains in my pcp air rifles. The principle is the release of air. In a pcp air rifle, when the trigger is pulled, all the air is released at once. In a springer, it is a gradual increase as the piston moves up the compression chamber, reaching the top and giving its full allocation of air. I thought the JSB groups were good. I lost faith in the Air Arms pellets as in my last tin most had damaged skirts and was disappointing to see. Anyway, Jeff, best wishes, from Ian

Hi Ian, that sounds totally plausible. Might be why some say that springers will drift less in the wind than PCPs. Thanks for sharing. 😀👍

Another informative vids,thanks. sorry if its been asked prior. do you have complaints/issues with neighbours regards using the garden to shoot?
@hftshooter

No complaints so far. my neighbours' properties are quite well spaced and I tend to pick my moments to shoot. When I do shoot in the garden it's for an hour tops and I'm always 'moderated'. I wonder sometimes whether they actually know that I'm shooting?

Are all these pellets the same skirt size, as this can affect the way the pellet travel’s down the rifling in the barrel. I find my AA410 carbine prefers small skirts of exactly 4.50 in 177 calibre, tested 11 different pellets and all the 4.51 and 4.52 skirt types performed less well.
@hftshooter
@hftshooter 18 күн бұрын
I think you may be confused? The measurements that you mention; 4.50, 4.51, 4.52, are in fact the pellet head sizes not skirt sizes. In my experience, provided the pellets are from the same manufacturer, the skirt size doesn't factor as the air will expand them out into the rifling.

I shoot HFT and use barracuda FT everyone says 8.44gr are best for HFT but in my testing FT’s were best for my gun. I tested all the usual suspects most grouped well are 25yds but when i went out to 45yds they were clearly grouping the best. There is more of a drop obviously but a scope adjustment and Mero take care of that. In my opinion anecdotally they seam to take less wind than a 8.44gr pellet. I think you’re like me with the single shot loader I’m that accustomed to single shot in HFT I forget about the mag, if I go plinking for fun I’ll have been shooting a while the suddenly think why am I not using mag😂 BTW I shoot an AirMaks Krait off sticks in HFT, maybe a topic for a future video for you HFT off of sticks. I know others have done them but I like your style and take on the various topics you’ve covered

I enjoyed watching this test with the heavies, but I think I've come across a pellet that you didn't try, yet could outdo the JSB's, they are the Webley AccuMAX at 10.65 grain. I was very surprised with those through both my BSA R10se and HW100kt. How about trying the JSB against the AccuMAX in another vid?

I have a backwards question. I use a Diana Chaser CO2 pistol to "convince" pigeons to stay off my roof. What are the slowest pellets? Specifically pellets that slow down the quickest? If I miss a pigeon on my roof (10-20 yds) the pellet continues an unknown distance. What I would like to find is a pellet formed like a badminton shuttle. Quick for a little bit, then slows dramatically. Is there such a thing?
@hftshooter
@hftshooter 16 күн бұрын
That's the opposite of what pellets are designed to do. I don't know whether waddcutter pellets will behave that way? Pest controllers often use a lower power for short range pigeons, especially in barns.
@VegasMikeP229
@VegasMikeP229 16 күн бұрын
@@hftshooter Agree, hence the question. I'm presently using wadcutters (Meisterkugeln .177 Professional Line in 7.0 gm) and they do fine for accuracy but in a suburb, I'd like to find a way to limit the travel. If I use the rifle barrel on the Diana Chaser, it's more accurate as it's faster but a miss means a pellet going quite a ways. No idea how far that is. There is no power control on the Diana so either I modify the CO2 valve or buy another gun. Anyway, thanks for the response.

Hft is not so much about group size like benchrest is but predictablility. A pellet that is consistent in the amount of wind and drop it takes so it's poi can be accuratly predicted is what will put more points on your card and the 10.3's are certainly good in the wind. I have used the JSB heavies myself and find that going up about 5 or 6mm higher on the mounts compared to a 8.4 setup brings the aimpoints to very nearly the same.

Hi, I've tried 10g and 13g slugs and I'd say save your money that or get the small amount you can. Muzzle velocity is so slow making 8/9ft/lb and the accuracy in mine is only ok at best, not a patch on JSB Heavys.

ooooyou are such a tease 🤪🤪🤪🤪 new gun . out to longer distance for magazine or single shot tray that’s when you might notice a difference. heavy pellets work in my guns but there is a small difference in the curve not such a problem at target shooting one distance but if you going short and far the trajectory cuve is a little different to a lighter pellet although not a massive difference until you get out to 55 yards

Don’t see the point of pellet testing in the wind. It was obvious from the video that it was blowing harder when testing some pellets than others and funnily enough the pellets with the tighter groups were the ones shot when the wind was blowing less. And also in windy conditions be the nature of the pellet being heavier it will usually group better due to it having less effect on it from the wind. Perhaps try this again indoors as the results will be noticeably different. Also, as the ghost has variable power adjustment try turning the power wheel down or up a few numbers. Some pellets that don’t group as well on max power group brilliantly on one or two numbers lower. Pellet testing is as much about finding the right pellet for the barrel as it is finding the right speed to shoot the pellet at… try different pellet head sizes too. You may find that ur best pellet is one that shoots better on power setting lower than max with a head size you wouldn’t normally shoot.
@hftshooter

Thanks for your comments. Tackling the wind is an important part of HFT so I need to know how the pellets I choose perform outside where I do 99.9% of my shooting. I really don't enjoy shooting inside! I'm already planning to test different power levels with the ghost as mentioned in a previous video. 🙂👍
