The number 47 is surprisingly common in the Star Trek universe. This video documents the many times that 47 turns up in dialogue, in one way or another, in The Original Series, The Animated Series, the films, Deep Space 9, and Enterprise.

47 Carogans used that number 47 times when writing the Star Trek episodes and movies. That's 2,209 times that 47 was used.

How many ears do you have? 3. The Left Ear, the Right Ear and the Final Front Ear. *ba dum diss* It's funny how Star Trek likes it's numbers. In this case 47. Before Jepnerdy, I hadn't really realized that.

Rod Serling knew that the most intriguing frontier of all was that of the human mind. So he xreated The Twilight Zone to explore this ever present but often hidden frontier. Gene Roddenberry knew this as well. So he created his own vehicle to explore the castness of an imaginary universe while simultaneously scrupulously examining the human psyche. To do this he took great care to select his on screen crew. To make sure that the different sexes were represented. That differing age groups were visible and most importantly of all, that as many races as he could manage to show at the time could be clearly seen. He gave these characters roles not based on trivial factors like their country of origin but their supposed imagined capabikities as people. He did this to illustrate that the hunan condition is a challenge and a gift that we all share. But to stop us from becoming arrogant about our achievements. He inserted an outsider to observe us. To remind us that as far as we had come in this optimistic future. Prejudice, violence and hatred were never far away. That character became as famous and treasured as the show itself. A character eho believed in diversity as a strength. As tolersnce and acceptance of others as highly civilised. Many people admire Mr Spock because of hie views. Many just see costumes, space battles and adventure stories. IDIC allows for both interpretations of Star Trek to be considered vsluable. That was what was so clever sbout both Rod Serling and Gene Roddenberry. They both knew that they had pearls of wisdom to share. But needed to persuade network people and casual viewers not to trample those pearls into the dirt. 79 episodes survived this process. But inspired hundreds more. Long live Star Trek. In all of it's diverse and thought provoking forms.
