Thanks for the Video :) I used a Fluid evacuator, so wasnt wearing any transmission fluid when dropped the pan. While it was off, I welded a nut for a drain plug, to make future changes clean & easy . 245,000 km on my original transmission so far.

Great video, cool to see a stock 47re holding up that long. I thought you were supposed to check fluid level in neutral though? I could be wrong or maybe it makes no difference.
@jacobleffler3940 Жыл бұрын
It does infact make a difference

Yup neutral check. 1aauto has tranny pans with drain bolts inserted on them. Worth getting.

It’s a must 48re .I’m positive!Check in neutral and completely warmed up..

A smart mechanic once suggested when you drop the pan the first time you install a DRAIN PLUG. Of course that was a smart mechanic.

I compared Dodge's transmission filters to an Allison screw on cartridge. I'm decided to put on a screw on cartridge filter on my truck. I think I have maybe a $160 tied up in a kit to do it from my local hydraulic shop. Thank God I didn't fall for bD diesel at $460

You're videos are my go-to for maintaining my own truck. Thanks! I have 35" tires, Falken Wildpeak A/T, max PSI of 65. What do you set the PSI on your tires to for winter snow & ice?
@OutpostCTD2 жыл бұрын
If your tires are 65 psi max I’d run them a little lower. Maybe 60. My tires are 80 psi max and I run them at 70.

My 05 2500 Cummins I purchased new and has 400k also but now I have the 2nd gear issues so will be doing the parts swap stuff that controls the shifting and adjusting the bands. Thanks for your input

Mine was starting to slip second and I did a band adjustment and it’s shifting great now. About to swap the pan for a ppe

Wow only a bit of slippage at 400k miles thats impressive. I have an 04.5 with the 48re and I need a T.C Im only at 480,000km! (300,000mi)
@georgesimpson3113 Жыл бұрын
You sooo need something like the B&M 10280 Aluminum Transmission Pan. 4 more quarts and a stupid drain. I've got no idea why manufactures don't put a stupid drain in these pans! They make rubber gaskets... and if you like the truck now, you like it more with a built trans. Nothing even wild, just moderately done.

I was thinking you was gunna get a drain plug kit from parts house and install it!

What’s the difference between the 47 and the 48. Might seem funny but I have the same truck as yours. Same paint and same interior. Mine is also a 2003
@OutpostCTD2 жыл бұрын
There’s very few differences. Some internals were better quality of materials on the 48. Oil flows a bit faster in the 48 also. The 47 came with the standard output trucks. Torque converter that came with the 48 Is a slight upgrade over the one that came with the 47. And since they’re so similar the 47 and be built the same as a 48 in the aftermarket.

@@OutpostCTD Additionally some of the electronics vary a bit, like the pressure transducer (metal and round in 47re, plastic and square in 48re)

How often do you/have you towed with this truck?
@OutpostCTD2 жыл бұрын
I have towed a few hundred miles and that’s about it. Mostly unloaded highway miles. I have a different truck I prefer to tow with. Previous owner pulled a 5th wheel with this truck though.

My 48re doesn’t light up when I manually go into 1st. Do you know what this could mean?
@OutpostCTD Жыл бұрын
Mine often does this also. I’m not sure what it means. It could be something to do with the lever that adjusts down by the trans when you move the shifter.
@white24valve2 жыл бұрын
I see the passenger battery is corroding on you!

I would put a aftermarket pan on with a drain plug that is a pain in the ass.
@cesarvelasquez9436 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t you still have to drop the pan to change filter? Asking because your suggestion caught my attention. Thanks in advance
@packingbone1953 Жыл бұрын
@@cesarvelasquez9436 if your changing the filter every time. But just for pan drains every 20-30k miles or so I wouldn’t.
