Just what I need. A nice useable, easy maintenance, economical bike that is happy plodding round the lanes, strapping a tent on the back for the weekend or popping down to the shops. If it doesn't do that, you can keep it.

it does everything except economy! but then again you can add a liter of gasoline into the tank and pour the rest with tapwater as fuel, the 48 cylinders will never know!

I had over 30 bikes over 40 years or so. There was one bike I truly hated, a 350 CC, two-stroke 3 cilinder Kawa. I had to drive it daily. It was the cheapest bike I could get (during my study) because my Honda CB550's engine died beyond repair. I was lucky to find a crashed CB550 that had a good engine after 6 months because the Kawa needed almost daily maintenance. I often had more tools in my backpack as study books
@elonmust74702 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you jusd didn't take care of your stuff.
@pa4tim2 жыл бұрын
@@elonmust7470 Yes, that is true but in an other way as you probably think. I took a lot of care, I worked on it every day. That is why it worked more or less during those 6 months. The bike was just a piece of worn crap, it needed a major overhaul but not a single dealer around had any spare parts. It was never populair in my country. Some dealers did not even know this bike. This is way pre-internet shops and ebay. Motorbikes were not populair in those days, it was the poor mans transport, but not for me, I just like it. I wanted a motorbike so bad as long as I can remember. It was about 10 years before it became a rich mans hobby, the rise of the custom bikes, Bankers and lawyers buying a big HD and dressed as if they were hells angels. Only driving on dry days in summer. I got it for near to nothing from a friend who also studied and had no money but also not the knowledge (and also no parts source). I needed a bike until I could fix my seized CB550 engine (That was so worn that it used more oil as a 2 stroke), that was also the only one I could afford, looked like a rat bike but no money for a paint job, and I kept it running for more then a year). In that time EVERY penny I earned in my weekend job went into my bikes. Those 6 months included the coldest winter since decennia (around 1984 - 85 the Netherlands) so a lot of freezing rain, snow and road salt helping to increase degradation. And opposite to most people who call themselves 'bikers' , I rode it 80 km per day, 5 days a week in every season. In winter I seldom saw other motorbikes on the street. A bike was and still is my primair form of transport since the day I became 18. So you are right and wrong, I gave it as much care as I could but that was not enough.
