We’re finally in Alaska (!!!!!). Quick pause on our 50 country goal as we explore the beauty of the Last Frontier for two weeks. On this trip, we hopped aboard our very first cruise together (joined by my sister and my brother-in-law’s family), so we’ll be taking you along the coast of Southeast Alaska as we enjoy a week-long Alaskan cruise from Seward to Vancouver. Catch you all next Saturday, as we board our ship for some more epic adventures in Alaska!!!

I live here. And you have to take the short drive to Girdwood it's only like 20 minutes south of Anchorage. Very beautiful little mountain town on the ocean with a ski resort and many great restaurants and cafes. One of a kind. Also if you guys like bars. Go to Kootz (chilkoot Charlie's) world famous many celebrities have been there. The beer in Alaska is on par with Washington or Oregon, many local small micro breweries. Coffee, beer, and seafood is a big thing here. Also try some of the Kaladis Brothers cafes around town for great ambience and good coffee. Also go to the Kobuk in downtown Anchorage it's an amazing local gift and art shop with a coffee shop inside. Glacier brew house is a great local restaurant with local foods and micro brewed beers as well as award winning chefs. Highly recommend. I 100% recommend 49th State brewery downtown it's 3 floors of micro brewery/ restaurant/ balcony overlooking the ocean, amazing food super creative menu unlike anywhere I've ever soon. A bunch of different local beers and drinks. And the inside is so cool looking. Also a must see for anyone visiting is a short drive up flat top mountain, you can see the whole city of Anchorage from up there. It's very beautiful. Also hiking some easy trails through the city is Campbell Creek trail system. I recommend the Campbell airstrip road part. Also check kincaid park out. It's amazing. In west Anchorage you have to check out lake hood for the float planes. It is the most trafficked small plane landing and taking off lake in the world. As well as point worinzoff you can see the ocean and the huge international freight and passenger planes landing and taking off right over your head. Also a short drive north to the suburb/mountain town of Eagle River is amazing. Very scenic lots of good restaurants there as well. It's only like 20 minutes north of Anchorage. Skyline drive is a drive up the mountains in eagle River. If you truly want an amazing nature drive through mountainous valleys unlike anywhere, also do the eagle River nature center drive. It's very close to Anchorage, and one word describes it. EPIC. i see bears, moose, and Lynx every time I drive it. One more thing close to town. Drive to Eklutna Lake, it's where Anchorage draws it's drinking water from it's a super beautiful natural glacier lake on the bottom of mountains. It's so natural looking it's like green almost. I hope you guys have an amazing honeymoon. Enjoy Anchorage, and Alaska the 49th State! Good luck guys I'm sure you'll have many memories and fun here.

I visited in 2018 to obtain a float plane rating on my pilots licence. Stayed at the Lakeside Hotel at Lake Hood. Had a blast, loved every second and in September the climate was a lot better than I expected. The locals are fantastic, they say "Can do" and it gets done. Recommended if you want something a little different. One tip, there are no Bureau de Change facilities anywhere in Alaska. Make sure you can fund your trip before you arrive.

Hi! 1. Miss yall, so fun to follow yalls adventure! 2. How's the affordability of Alaska? When I went to Iceland I had sticker shock once I got there, because the prices are inflated because everything needs to be imported. Is Alaska affordable or does it have some of the same problems as Iceland?
@ChadandClaire
@ChadandClaire 7 ай бұрын
Hello, hello! Miss you, too- it's certainly been a while! I would definitely say that Alaska is one of the most expensive states to visit. Any place with such magnificent, untouched, natural beauty comes with a hefty price tag haha. Food, accommodations, transportation, and experiences will all be on the more expensive side, especially when comparing prices to the lower 48 states. However, I think similar to Iceland, there are still ways to stick to a tighter budget; you just might have to really search for those more affordable experiences and accommodations. I know a lot of budget travelers recommend roadtripping the state- maybe even traveling out of a vehicle that doubles as a place to sleep! If we weren't joining my sister on a family vacation, we probably would have traveled the state in a converted van to save money!

@@ChadandClaire Yes but in Ontario Canada where I live, the fall colors are much more impressive then Alaska. More variety of trees. The maple tree itself has many different types and colours.. We seen lots of different glaciers in glacier Bay. Visited a gold rush saloon the Red Onion. Went to a dog sled kennel and rode in a 4x4 being pulled by the dogs. Seen the top of Mt Dennelli which is usually not visible because it is higher then the clouds and is the tallest mountain in North America. It is a great place to visit. Yucky part was I got sick three days before the flight home and tested positive for Covid when I got home.
