Istanbul looks the same as I imagined it, a mix of European and Middle Eastern culture, also the closeness of the Mediterranean Sea climate is felt. I am curious if Turkey will surprise me on your channel.

Yeah but they mostly showed the Middle Eastern looking parts in this video. Nothing of Asian side Kadikoy, Kuzguncuk etc, islands or Bosphorus villages. Istanbul is A LOT more than what you see here.

You guys are amazing. I have a name for you both: World CItizens. Tip: 3 places I suggest you guys must see in Turkey: Kushadasi, Efesus, and Pamukkale baths. If you happen to hear terms "Arnavut boregi" you know it means Albanian byrek haha. Oh, and make sure you watch out your weight in Turkey. When I left Turkey (I spent there a month in a resort in Kushadasi) I was 258 pounds heaviest ever in my life.

Istanbul has lots of gorgeous places to offer. The places you visited are usually tourist attractions and for me they are not the best. There are calmer places which are great organized and clean. Istanbul is a massive city and once you start seeing it’s beauty you can’t leave it easily. Next time when you visit again , I recommend you to visit; Besiktas, Kadikoy, Ortaköy, Emirgan, Sariyer, Polenezkoy, Riva, Arnavutkoy, Üsküdar etc.

The Egyptian Bazaar used to be called as the “New Bazaar” and “Valide Bazaar” by the historiographers of the 17th century. However it later earned reputation in mid-18th century with the name of “Egyptian Bazaar” as the spices and goods that were sold in the bazaar were mostly coming from Egypt. More commonly used compared to others, the name of “Egyptian Bazaar” is also read in the travel books of foreign travelers in referring to the structure. In Constantinople by Edmondo de Amicis dated 1874, the Egyptian Bazaar is described as follows: “Entering this, we are immediately assailed by an odour so powerful as to fairly knock one down: this is the Egyptian Bazaar, where are deposited all the wares of India, Syria, Egypt, and Arabia, which later on, converted into essences, pastilles, powders and ointments, serve to colour little hands and faces, perfume apartments and baths and breaths and beards, reinvigorate worn-out pashas, and dull the senses of unhappy married people, stupefy smokers, and spread dreams, oblivion, and insensibility throughout the whole of the vast city. After going but a short distance in this bazaar your head begins to feel dull and heavy, and you get out of it as fast as you can; but the effect of that hot, close atmosphere and those penetrating odors clings long to your clothing, and remains for all time in your memory as one of the most vivid and characteristic impressions of the East.”

6:39 Dabke is a Levantine dance, the Turks call it halay. The song they were singing didn't really sound Turkish though, so most probably it's not the Turks dancing there. I'm guessing it's either Kurdish or Syrian Arabic. A small note, even though they are both called "halay" the Turkish halay and the Kurdish halay are different as well.

I hope you are intending to do more of turkyie than just istanbul. it is a marvelous country. If you havent seen them check them out. Tread the globe. Enlish couple got stuck in turkyie when covid hit. They decided to stay and traveled turkyie for almost two years in their van. Now they are in america so you have to scroll back a bit. I highly recomend them. :) They have done some really good stuff. Helping a lady establish a rescue center for turtles in manavgat side. A truly magical story. The powerr of you tube can do wonders. Western Armenia, which was part of Turkey, fell victim to Turkish chauvinist policies at the beginning of World War I, as a result of which Armenians were forcibly resettled from the front line. However, it was only a pretext for mass pogroms and extermination of Armenians. More than a million people died and about half a million were forcibly resettled in inhospitable areas. The Turkish troops behaved particularly brutally during the insidious massacre. They murdered not only men, but also women and small children. Where rifles were not enough, Armenian women and children were killed with machetes. The brutality with which they behaved has not yet been overcome. Armenians were murdered throughout the territory of the Ottoman Empire. Their main fault was that they were Christians. Turkey has not yet apologized to the Armenians or compensated them.

I'm quite disappointed about the lousy picture your video draws about Istanbul. First of all, the Bosphorus is not a river, but the only connection between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Despite the heavy maritime traffic and the high population along the shores, this strategic and unique strait between two continents has crystal clear waters full with sea life, including many dolphins. So, please do not confuse it with Thames. Furthermore, you seem to prefer only shabby backstreets of the city, and your frequent warnings about fake products, price differences and your detailed explanations about the cheapest kind of food etc. simply spoils the quality of this vlog. Why am I taking the time to write this? It's because I liked your videos about Canakkale and Alacati, and this one simply didn't match the others. Anyway, it's just my opinion, feel free to delete it or please consider it as constructive criticism. Enjoy your stay in Türkiye!
