With only 48 hours left to explore and eat as much as possible before we head to Singapore Changi, to leave Singapore… We have a lot of ground to cover! Over the next 2 days, we try some delicious desserts, and classic coffees and show you the hotel we’ve been staying at and one of the quirkiest cafes we’ve ever been to whilst strolling around the gorgeous city centre of Singapore! Not to mention the best Nasi Lemak we’ve ever had but the real star of the show was the last place we visit where we got tear eyed because it was one of the best food experiences we've EVER had!

The reason ice-cream in bread is popular in Singapore because it's literally the cheapest ice-cream you could get. Most Singaporean's childhood memory would consist of an ice-cream "truck" (more like a fridge attached to an bike) like the one you saw and they would always ring a bell when they're nearby so you'd know where to look for them. It used to be $1 when I was a student so it's really affordable for kids and these uncles and aunties would always be waiting outside our school gates when we get off school.

@@2Passports1DreamDon't feel too bad. As @reveirg9 explained, it's not popular for its taste rather for its nostalgic element. If you are a foreigner who didn't grow up here, you probably won't be able to appreciate it as much as the locals do. Most of us (Millennials and older) who grew up here in Singapore in the 80s and 90s will have very fond memories of the ice-cream uncle riding around on his ice-cream bike in our neighbourhoods and calling out to us with his bell. It's a dying trade because there is no one to continue their legacy because it's not popular with the younger generations (Gen-Z and younger) who have grown accustomed to more expensive and decadent ice-cream brands like Haagen Daaz and Ben & Jerry's. So it's sad to know that they won't be around in the next 10 to 20 years. They, along the mama shops at the void decks of HDB blocks in the older housing estates, have become such a rare sight these days; vestiges of a bygone era that will soon be lost in time.

I appreciate the fact that you made real effort to see and taste the real Singapore that Singaporeans know and love. No one can really experience real multiracial societies until you see how different races appreciate and love the cuisine of every culture. What’s also not often mentioned is that each culture are making their food taste authentically and not adapted to fit tourists. The one cuisine you have not apparently tried in your vlog is Peranakan Cuisine. Many mistaken it to be fusion but it isnt. Much of Peranakan Cuisine has merged into hawker food but true Peranakan cuisine requires a lot of work and as such there arent readily found even in Food Crazy city like Singapore. Anyway, I enjoyed your vlogs for the enthusiasm and authenticity. Keep saying what you dont like and why because food is a personal thing and no single item can please everyone.

regarding little india do note it gets a little more crowded on weekends, indian nationals usually go down do their weekly grocery shopping on saturdays and sundays, but on sundays it's usually the off days for thousands of bangladeshi nationals who work in construction and at the shipyards so sundays in little india could get really packed in some areas and might be difficult to move around or to even get a table at the tekka hawker center and at some of the eateries around there.

The traditional filling of the wife pastry is winter melon with sugar and pork lard. The pastry also contains pork lard. In a lot of Hong Kong style Chinese pastry, pork lard is used to give the flaky texture. In Singapore there are many halal Chinese pastry and cake shops and they would use butter or plant-based oil instead.

Actually i would argue that nasi lemak is one of our national dishes as well. It's well-loved in Malaysia and in Singapore. I'm a Singaporean Malay so I of course, grew up with my mum's nasi lemak. It used to be a Sunday-affair for my family when i was growing up. My mum would cook it almost every Sunday and my siblings and I would literally clean out the whole pot. 😂😂 But at the same time I don't know anybody within my circle of friends who doesn't love nasi lemak regardless of their race. So that's a testament of how popular it is amongst Singaporeans. Personally, i would put it up there with chicken rice. To me, there is no such thing as a correct "official list" of national dishes. It truly depends on each individual that you ask. Nasi lemak is originally a Malay dish, but it's so popular that it has been adapted by the Chinese community. They have their own version of nasi lemak which is why brands like Ponggol nasi lemak or Chong Pang nasi lemak or even the budget-friendly option of economic nasi lemak that you typically find at cafes at MRT stations are well-known within the chinese community. If you wanna try the best and most popular authentic malay-style nasi lemak try the stalls at Changi Village like Mizzy Corner or the Boon Lay Power nasi lemak at Boon Lay hawker centre. You'll find long queues at these places. Thats how you know it's good. 😉 I know they are both quite far from the city centre (opposite ends of Singapore , matter of fact), but to me they are worth making the trip for. And no, contrary to popular belief, we did not copy nasi lemak from Malaysia. It's been around forever in Singapore too because the Malay community here are the indigenous people of Singapore so it's very much a part of our culture and identity as it is for the Malays in Malaysia. That said, I absolutely love nasi lemak from Malaysia as well, so no hate to them.❤ Just wanted to address and debunk the rumour that we copied the dish from them, that's all. *peace out* Overall I would say this is one of the best Singapore food travel vlogs on KZfaq. You both have given us a very well-rounded and unbiased idea of the different types of food and cultures of the various ethnic groups in Singapore. Most vlogs don't even mention Malay food so i was pleasantly surprised to see you guys feature our dishes and traditional kuih(desserts). So from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank you both. ❤🙏🙏 I just watched another Singapore travel vlog last night by another couple from the UK and they ignorantly said that they were deliberately skipping out on Malay food during their entire stay here because they were planning on heading to Malaysia as the next leg of their South East Asian tour, so they might as well just experience Malay food and culture over there. Now as you can imagine, that sounds truly messed up. As a Singaporean Malay I find statements like that very ignorant and hurtful. I don't want to speculate as to why Malay food is so underrated and under-represented in Singapore but yeah, it's kinda disappointing to hear things like that from foreigners and tourists. Anyway if you guys are planning to come back here again and you want to try the best malay food, check out the nasi padang stalls at Geylang Serai hawker centre or Hjh Maimunah restaurant ( they have 2 outlets - one is at Joo Chiat Rd in the Geylang Serai vicinity and the other at Jln Pisang in the Kampong Gelam district). There's also Pu3 restaurant at Somerset 111 located at the Orchard Rd shopping belt. These are the more popular ones and they are very popular for their nasi ambeng platters but being restaurants, they are more expensive than the ones you can find at the stalls at the Geylang Serai Hawker Centre. There's also a coffee shop at the nearby Joo Chiat Complex that sells nice and affordable malay food. There's even a chinese-muslim zi char stall that has been there for ages. They sell chicken rice along with other chinese-style zi char dishes. I'd highly recommend that you check out the Geylang Serai and Joo Chiat area the next time you're here. It's kinda off the beaten track for many tourists but trust me, you'll discover lots of good food and hidden gems there. The nearest MRT station would be Paya Lebar, in case you're wondering. You can take many instagram-worthy photos of the beautiful peranakan shophouses along Joo Chiat Rd. You won't regret going there. Make sure to go there during the day though because these shops and restaurants close quite early in the evening. And along that vein, if you are feeling even more adventurous you can actually walk from there all the way to the Katong/Marine Parade district where you'll find even more hotels, restaurants, bars and hip cafes that serve the expatriate community over there. The bars are open at night so you don't have to rush over during the day. 😊😊 Good luck for your future travels!! 😊😊

I feel your hurt/pain/disappointment. I love Malay food. And Indian food. And of course Chinese Food. And I think "is this food or that food Singaporean or Malaysian" is silly (and can be hurtful, as you have so eloquently pointed out). Food has no nationality. They don't even have passports! So what if it is originally from Malaysia. Or Singapore. The question is whether it taste as good or even better than the original, right? In any case, even if we settled (I don't know how) the "nationality" of the food between Singapore and Malaysia, I can imagine Indonesia coming along and throwing all that out the window! So, yes, I agree. Nasi Lemak in Singapore has cross ethnic lines, while Malaysian Nasi Lemak has complexity and depth that is worth trying and even enjoying and championing. As the Malaysian rapper Namewee conceded, Malaysia MAY have the original, but Singapore is better at Marketing and Branding (our food) - Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak, Chong Pang Nasi Lemak, Lee Wee Bros, Crave (Adam Road), Punggol Nasi Lemak... okay, I'm Singaporean and so I know these brands, I don't know any Malaysian "brands" cos not Malaysian? Anyway, Singaporean to Singaporean, don't let Malaysians/Malaysia's need to "claim" their "heritage" (or our food) get you down. Singaporean's are very magnanimous people. Until today, we still say our Chicken Rice is "Hainanese Chicken Rice". Even though if you actually go to Hainan you'll find Wenchang Chicken that is nowhere near what we call Hainanese Chicken Rice. We say our premium Chilli Crab is Sri Lankan Crab. We charitably tell people that this is "Ipoh Hor Fun", or "Gula Melaka", or "Penang Laksa". (I think it's because if they didn't like it, we can tell them where to send their complaint letters! :-) ) "Malaysia Boleh" tells me that they still need affirmation. Singapore has passed the need for gratuitous affirmation.

Adriana, trust me the street ice cream is not that great as described. It's basically a slice of Magnolia or Kings ice cream block wrap in a piece of bread. You can buy ice cream of this two brands from any supermarkets and create your breaded ice creams at home. There are few flavors you can choose from - yam, coconut, sweet corn, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc. It cost about $1.00-$2.00 each.

I'm surprised you haven't had ice cream in bread before as it's huge in Thailand. You spent so long there it's weird you missed it. To be honest I find it pretty naff. Gimme a wafer or a cone any day lol. Those pastries looked very sad too. You were trying to act excited but I could see you weren't impressed 😋 Oh and the "cauldron" is actually called a tandoor or tandoori oven
@2Passports1Dream

Haha we haven’t seen it once 😂😂 no idea how we’ve missed it haha! We do love a good cone 😍 haha they were very understated and “classy” pastries! But the real star of the show was the coffee and then absolutely fantastic Indian food! Aha makes sense that it’s not called a cauldron. Thank you!!

It's called the "wife pastry" (or wife biscuit) because it's flakey. Like my wife. (PS: don't tell my wife! PLEASE!) @9:53 the humane way to eat a rabbit (Yes, it's for the Year of the Rabbit), is to bite off the head, so death is instantaneous, and it does not suffer. You guys are MONSTERS! Chewing on its butt first! (I could imagine its death shrieks!) @17:25 The Naan is baked in a traditional Indian vertical oven called a "Tandoor", from which we get, for e.g. "Tandoori Chicken". So the oven is called a "tandoor" (pronounced, "Tan-Du"), DO NOT call it a "Tandoor Oven" or (worse!) a "tandoori oven"! (Sorry, my inner latent Indian just got activated). That's like saying "ATM Machine". About Naan. Fresh naan fresh from the tandoor is unbeatable. I have never had bad naan in Singapore. It's like all these Indian Chefs went to the same naan making school, and they could not graduate until they perfected naan. As long as it's from a tandoor, it's gonna be goooooood! As an aside, only in Singapore, can you have the opportunity to have naan with Chilli Crab! Mixing North Indian food with Singapore-Chinese Food. Usually, Chilli crab is ordered with Mantou, a traditional Chinese bun, that we use to soak up the Chilli Crab sauce. Now I'm thinking... Naan with a slab of Ice Cream! Anyway, Thanks for the entertaining video. I hope my comments entertained you too!
