This was a spectacular video of a short evening flight up the coast to SLO. I did my "long XC" from Napa County Airport to SLO back in 1975 when I was a high school kid learning to fly. Hope you return to California and further explore the northern part of the state, in and around the Bay Area. Some of my best flying memories are "sunset" flights over the coast, the GG Bridge, esp. when the scattered clouds and fog roll in. What a superb "training video" on checklists. I see too many that don't use them or simply go by memory.

Josh, a big HELLO from CYQT. 🇨🇦👋 WOW .. absolutely LOVE your videos. Love the narration, how you draw us in, like we are all in the plane experiencing the flight with you.👍👍 As a student pilot with 54 hours I really appreciate and enjoy how you go thru ALL your check lists. At times you give a brief explanation of why you did something, or the importance and significance of a step in the check list and if missed how it could negatively effect the flight ... or the order in which you did it and the importance of that ... all the way from planning, preflight to tie down and every thing in between. Look forward to future videos. ALWAYS entertaining, enjoyable and educational. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge of General Aviation to the world and helping us become better and safer pilots! 👍🇨🇦👍

Just yesterday we landed in 47 knot winds. We were on final for what felt like 10 minutes. It felt like we were barely moving over the ground, like 50 knots groundspeed at 2400 rpm. The planes pointed into the wind on the ramp looked like they were trying to take off. Wild stuff.

Hi Josh. What Check list do you use ??
@rockstardonut777
@rockstardonut777 2 күн бұрын
The best checklist is the one you make yourself. Every airplane, pilot, mission and situation is different. Start with the POH for inspiration. Edit: if you're a student, also check your club policies, and it's a good idea have a chat with your CFI and other pilots about your checklist. Also understand *why* every item is on the checklist/POH, e.g. why do we use carburetor heat for landing, and not on the ground, why do we lean during taxi, etc.
@donball7896
@donball7896 Күн бұрын
Hi Josh, I noticed on your landing you had the carb heat on all the way to touchdown. I was taught to remove carb heat before landing in case of a go around and the need for full power. Obviously, with carb heat out you would not have full power. Your thoughts? By the way, great videos what a professional.
@Juapo
@Juapo 13 сағат бұрын
Been 1000+ hours since I have flown with a carburetor, so bit rusty on my technique, but I always left it in. Only time I was ever told to remove it was on my private Checkride by a DPE while landing on a grass strip. His theory was did not want the chance of any dust and debris getting into the engine. The owner of the flight school disagreed later, so that was still up for debate. When you get into the blue knob, there will be additional debate on to go full RPM or not, so the debate will go on.

Seems Vy is appropriate, right? He wasn't climbing over an obstacle or anything, didn't need the steeper climb with Vx.
@idekav.
@idekav. 2 күн бұрын
@@srcrowlWake turbulence avoidance is essentially an obstacle for light aircraft, since you rotate before the jet, you also get to outclimb their wake for a little bit, usually until about 700AGL or whenever you can make that turn out away from the larger aircrafts path, while it is good practice to use VX, it is also safe to use VY, and better on the engine as the faster you go the more airflow over the engine… TLDR: its a case by case type of thing lol
@srcrowl
@srcrowl 2 күн бұрын
@@idekav. it didn't seem like Josh was too concerned with it, as long as he takes off before the C130 takeoff point, he would probably be fine, I see it at my airport with regional jets often.
@idekav.
@idekav. 2 күн бұрын
@@srcrowl yeah for sure, the heavier the aircraft, the longer the takeoff roll which gives you even more time to outclimb its takeoff path, notice how Josh uses the full length of the runway,(short field or max performance climb procedure) and stays to the left of the path, excellent airmanship display there.
