Well... You could argue he should be working on shifting the blocking scheme like Peyton, Brady, Mahomes, Brees, etc were/are known for doing to ensure Jones doesn't come free. Would that help? As a Niners fan, my biggest issue is Kyle's lack of adjustments. The QB spot isn't the issue. It's Kyle failing to learn from mistakes and continue to fall apart in the middle of big games. I hate this narrative. Andy Reid spent two decades being the "genius coach who couldn't win the big game." His playoff record without Patrick Mahomes is 11-13, his record with Patrick Mahomes is 15-3. It's easy to outcoach someone when you've got a once in a generation QB on your team and you're playing against a guy who has the equivalent of Alex Smith at his prime. Not a knock on Brock Purdy, that is a good place to be if you're the last pick in the draft and you just completed your first full season in the NFL, but if we look at what Andy Reid did with Alex Smith vs what he's done with Patrick Mahomes, it's pretty clear that one guy is waaaaaaay better than the other. Both teams made mistakes and had their struggles. The Chiefs had a HoF caliber QB who could overcome those mistakes and the Niners didn't. Simple as that.
@byronsmith3152
@byronsmith3152 5 ай бұрын
@@reckbomb82 You say not a knock on Purdy yet it is a knock on Purdy. Alex never looked as good s Purdy has and that is not even up for debate. The game boiled down to the Chiefs defense, not Mahomes. Chris Jones does not go unblocked for most of the game, the Chiefs get destroyed. Niners got outcoached and Mahomes took advantage of Wilks calling for soft zone coverages and Burks having to try and cover anybody, especially Kelce. I understand the love affair for Mahomes but he was not the MVP of that game, period. Spags won the game by switching to man and blitzing every time the Niners went zero backfield, which was a TON on the 2nd half. Mahoems made maybe 1 single play that was outside the script of the play. Not a knock on him because he is the best QB of this generation and it is not close. But he is getting WAY too much credit for the Chiefs winning the game.

@@ss_IIII Play calling is how you extend leads. Any QB is only as good as the play call. As an example, you do not run an empty backfield set on 3rd down vs a team that blitzes every 3rd down. Or, you do not call pass plays on 3 straight drives when the defense is giving up yards against the run. You do not call run plays out of the I formation, up the middle when the defense is stacking the box. Especially when you have multiple options of who can run the ball and great misdirection plays that have been working for you all game. Running the ball opens up the pass.

Mahones had 3 "yikes" throws if that is how people keep score. One was an awful throw that was intercepted, one was a long completion that the underneath safety probably intercepts 90% of the time, and one was honestly a dangerous throw-away in the middle of the field that the backer couldn't quite get to (and should have been called intentional grounding as there were no receivers in the area).

Brock has continually improved his game each time. Mind you, he is only in his 2nd year. First full year, I think he is doing amazingly well. If he continues on his course of improving his game, he will be one of the greats. He has already reached a level very few of our 49ers QBs have reached.

I'm with Wildes...kinda hard to feel sorry for the Niners when you have the Avengers on your roster. They didn't lose because of Purdy - they lost because they stopped running the ball, their special teams made mistakes & their defense couldn't stop Mahomes in the 4th qtr.
@byronsmith3152
@byronsmith3152 5 ай бұрын
Every team has talented players. This whole avengers label is beyond dumb. And I will even use facts to help out here. How did those Avengers do in the game. Deebo, BA, Kittle had 9 catches combined. CMC had a terrible fumble that cost the team potential points. Williams destroyed an entire drive with his penalties. Even with all that, Purdy had the Niners winning the game every time he stepped off the field. Especially in the 4th quarter.
@robertdickson9319
@robertdickson9319 5 ай бұрын
@@byronsmith3152 First off, even the Avengers make mistakes - they're human. But there is a reason you did not see the Panthers or the Giants or a dozen other teams in the Super Bowl that may, or may not, have "talented players" - it's because those talented players are not as good as the 49ers. The 49ers played the game with 7 All Pro's vs 3 for KC. The 49ers had 2 players finish in the top 5 for MVP. Their QB was #1 in the league in QBR. Same with their RB. Bosa was the #1 ranked DE. Kittle was #2 TE. 2 of the top 10 linebackers (including #1). 2 of the top 25 WR's. Stars everywhere - the Avengers label is accurate. Now, per my original comment, part of the reason why they lost is that they stopped utilizing their #1 Avenger McCaffrey. The other offensive Avengers were "stymied" to a degree because of injury and the fact they were playing the #2 defense in the league. Second, the 49ers don't have Avengers on the special teams and it showed. Finally, the Niners lost an Avenger at LB during the game which hurt the defense thus assisting Mahomes in getting the game tying FG in the 4th qtr. You can have a team of Avengers & still lose - sometimes the villains are better or, in this case, the Niners got outcoached.

@@robertdickson9319 Why is it that the niners are the only team in the NFL punished because of their talented players? Maybe just maybe if the teams you mentioned had a QB as good as Purdy, they would all have done better? Maybe the players earned the awards and votes they got by playing good football together instead of a collective of individuals. Eagles roster was LOADED. Dallas, loaded. No nicknames for the players on those teams I guess. And I agree, Purdy was not the reason they lost.
@robertdickson9319
@robertdickson9319 5 ай бұрын
@@byronsmith3152 Nobody is "punishing" the Niners for their players - certainly not me. But I am willing to call out the fact that the Niners are loaded with good players - when you crush those other"loaded" teams head to head you can arguably say that you are the superior team in the NFC. And yes, no nicknames for an Eagles team that collapsed in the second half and no nicknames for a Dallas team that was hot & cold for much of the year & was arguably over-rated. Yes football is a team game and each player works off the results of his teammates - but it is far easier to have success in the NFL when you have more good players than the opposing team does. Purdy probably does not have the same success playing on Carolina for instance. It was clear going into the game that the Niners had the much more talented roster overall - thus they were the favorite.
@byronsmith3152
@byronsmith3152 5 ай бұрын
@@robertdickson9319 I agree with you that the team is loaded with talent. I do however say that the Niners are the only ones getting labels. Even before the Eagles and Dallas got rolled. That however means nothing IF those players do not step up when it matters, like the SB. Let's talk about the one game. The game that matters the most in an NFL season. Those "avengers" did not show up. You know who did, Brock Purdy. And of course Purdy isn't taking the Panthers to the SB this year. No QB could have. Even Mahomes. Using that as any comparison is beyond dumb. I think Purdy playing on the Lions makes the SB. I think Purdy playing for Dallas and Philly make the Super Bowl. I also think that Mahomes playing for either of those teams most likely wins the Super Bowl. As far as having the most talented team over all was not the reason they were the favorites in the game. Think about it this way, if KC is a 3 point favorite, how many people do you think are taking that bet that LOVE the Chiefs but not at 3 as it would most likely go down as a push for you? Now let's make the Niners the favorite by 2.5. How many of those Bettors are talking KC in that scenario? I am a Niner homer and I easily take KC with the points. Now if the line was KC and 3 or above, I take the Niners. Look at the odds already for next year. Niners are favorites. Not because they may have the better team, but because they will have the easier path to the SB.
