I'm a lover of train travel.. I never need to know where I'm going or where I am.. I just love the free feeling of the travel and the experience of the sensations of being on the train. The food is excellent and I don't have to cook. Sleepers are the way to go if you it fits your budget... there is so much to see and all that lazy time to see it. Thank you for posting! Personally I like the fact you didn't narrate... sometimes talking can be annoying and can distract from the joy of traveling in silence.

@BoratWanksta6 жыл бұрын
Canada has their own train system, VIA Rail. Unfortunately to my knowledge, there is no US to Canada connection with Alaska on the VIA Rail system. I know there are ferries and boat cruises you can take from Seattle or other points in western Washington state, that'll get you up to Alaska. Besides of course flying. You can take Amtrak Cascades to get to Vancouver, BC(in Canada), btw.

Paul Somers the California State railroad museum is one of the two very best railroad museums in the country, the other one is the Pennsylvania State Railroad museum in Strasbugr, Pennsylvania which I have been to twice and I was at the Colorado State Railroad museum in Golden, Colorado in August of 1974. I was in the Navy then, I was heading for San Diego to report aboard my second ship, the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 & my very first Westpac Cruise. I rode the Kowloon & Canton railway passenger train from Kowloon to Shung Shui to view the border with Red China, I also rode the Tainwan National railroad ordinary class train 5 times between Keelung, Taiwn & Taipei, Taiwan. I travel by Amtrak when I go long distance. My flying is only going to be between Los Angeles & Manila as well as Los Angeles & Cebu City, Manila & Cebu City only.

Acela goes fast on the northeast corridor, but throughout the country on freight railroads tracks I doubt whether Amtrak on most go faster than 79 MPH, averaging less than 50 MPH with the stops included. Simply put, Amtrak runs mostly on freight tracks which are happy averaging less than 50 MPH. You can't go faster on single track than the slow train in front of you...
