Presented in 4K UHD! Southern Ontario is known for for its various smaller "short line" railroads scattered throughout the region. Featured here in this video, are 2 of these short line railroads. Starting off in Ingersoll, Ontario, the Ontario Southland Railway runs mainly around the Ingersoll area and also serves industries in the St. Thomas, and Tillsonburg areas as well. Founded in 1992, the privately held short line operator is known for the vast historic equipment on their roster. Featured here, are 2 of their unique historic locomotives. OSRX #6508 is a 63 year old EMD F9A, formerly belonging to CN and VIA Rail for many years before ending up at the OSR. Also in consist, is OSRX #182 is a 59 year old MLW (Montreal Locomotive Works) RS18u. Spending most of its life on the CP Railroad, #175 came to the Ontario Southland Railway around 7 years ago after many years serving on the CP. I also threw in a clip of CN Local #585 passing the historic and now abandoned Ingersoll depot on the CN Dundas Sub.
The 2nd railway featured, is the lesser known Trillium Railway in the St. Catharines area, closer to Niagara Falls. Known for the various EMD, Alco, and MLW power, featured today is Trillium's newest locomotive arrival. GMTX 333 is a EMD MP15AC, originally of Milwaukee Road, SOO, and Union Pacific origins. I followed their Merritton switcher one afternoon, as it made it's deliveries to 3 various businesses around the Merritton and St. Catharines area. Amazing to see such old locomotives in service and running strong today!
Stay tuned all month for even more videos from the Toronto area!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!
