To me it's mind boggling how Tokyo has a megacity under its megacity! Multilevel sprawling complex with a life ot its own! My home country only has overland public transport, terrible one at that too. Thanks for wonderful tour! The ventilation there must be a marvel on its own!

Thank you so much for watching! As for the ventilation, I have no idea how they do it but I heard Shibuya station has a natural exhausting system. They designed the station considering the natural air flow so they don't need electric power for ventilation. That's all I know from TV news. 😄

During my stay in Tokyo about two weeks ago, I would usually walk around 25 000 steps a day. Now as am back home in Norway, my feet starts hurting from from just watching this. When I went to Shinjuku, I walked almost the exact same route as in this video several times back and forth. Passing by the the never ending rivers of all the people heading to their daily work in the Metropolitian Building during morning time - note! this my first morning in Japan - while being jet-lagged as fuck, that was an experience in it itself.

Have those underground been built to protect against bad weather, typhoon...?

I have no idea how underground walkways started. They are not just in Tokyo but everywhere just like shopping streets are everywhere. Even my little hometown has some. Oh, wait a minute. Most shopping streets have roofs over the head. Maybe it has something to do with it. I guess old Japanese people may have felt safe when protected by the roofs. (from typhoons or strong sunshine or... I'm not sure. But the weather in the old days was not as bad as these days for sure.) Maybe the same idea used to build the underground walkways. Because in some part of Japan, there are even underground shopping streets too! (Just like the one you saw in my Tokyo Underground video.)

Is there a map of where the Shinjuku Underground can lead us to? For instance, can you go from Keio Plaza Hotel to the Nishi-Shinjuku Station using this underground walkway?
