Wow, that is some history there. I would like to ask in that case, is Wategos Beach names after the ranger Mr Watego? It seems that it was - or is it a coincidence?

@@toseetheworld correct. Actually Mr Watego junior. I met his mother she pointed out a dreaming place at Watego beach. Don't swim there she said. I think it was Mr Watego senior rowed a boat out to Julian's rock and back. I met a local I surfed with but he drowned at the pass I think. Mr Watego junior my uncle and father would fish the chair . Low tide only below the light house. A lot of alternative life style people visited. My father was at Byron bay when the last whale was butchered. He took photos.

@@toseetheworld as you know it's the most south easterly point in Australia. I remember it being said Byron bay and I need to find out the indigenous name.. ( my uncle is Aboriginal and the place does have a special spiritual significance.)

@@between666 I got my first opportunity to visit Byron in 2021 even though I'd known about it for a long time - life happened and unfortunately, I never got the chance. However, since discovering it I have been back several times for day trips but have never indulged in its history. Your experience sounds amazing. I recently discovered Wategos Beach by accident and totally fell in love. It is so pretty and doesn't look dangerous at all. Thank you for the info above.
