When I traveled this cable car, after starting from Hiei a beautiful view of Lake Biwa is visible. But you didn't show that in your video.

One of the shortest,and steepest lines you've photographed! But it is definitely the prettiest! Old growth forest,and sheer beauty! Thank you! Query;where in Kyoto is it?,and what's the altitude from bottom to top?(And I figure that's a 45% slope,as there are a few cable lines in the US,that are similar[Pittsburgh is of note]) 👍👍👍👍

I cannot figure out the configuration of the tracks where the two cars meet.
@jacksons1010
@jacksons1010 4 жыл бұрын
I'm perplexed as well. I would be interested to know how the direction of the car is determined, as the common configuration of flanged wheels cannot be the case here...I think.
@rogerhobson2228
@rogerhobson2228 4 жыл бұрын
Usually each car has double flanged wheels on one side, so a car will always follow the same side of the passing loop. The wheels at the other end of the axle are flangeless, so the passing loop has no switching function, all rails are fixed and just give support.

What's the overhead catenary wiring for?
@user-gk4fc9gz9e
@user-gk4fc9gz9e 4 жыл бұрын
That's for vehicle Equipments and Controls , not for the power to Move . In addition , "" Hieizan-Sakamoto Cable"" , which climbs from the opposite side ( East side ) of Mt. Hiei , They switched to Battery-Powered in 2006 , So there are No overhead catenary outside the station. With Catenary = en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakamoto_Cable ↓ Without Catenary = www.sakamoto-cable.jp/en/ その架線は動力に使うモノでは無く、車両設備や制御装置のためのモノだよ。

Why they use pantographs, when they actually pulled by the cable between rails? 🤔
@mikegross6107

Probably for electric brakes in case the cable snaps and electric motors for getting down or up.

it's a funicular, so why does it has overhead electricity?

Because, maybe, it is a tram. Funiculars do not have tracks.

Truly unique. So much so that it needs the support and maintenance of such a cultural gem that it is. It appears to be slightly neglected. It needs to be held up as a working historical rail line for the area. And, yes, get rid of the onboard audio track. Awful. Thank you for posting.
