For clarification, (because I'm seeing a lot of comments about it) this was filmed on March 2nd (which it says in the description), which was before the 737 MAX was grounded. That's why they are still flying in this video.

Just wondering where exactly you're filming at ATL. Obviously it's runway 9/27 so are you in the parking deck? I've heard that it's a great place but the police quickly show up to hassle you if you have a camera. Thanks!!
@LeppAviation5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcollins6387 yep, this was from the south parking deck. And no, I actually didn't have a single problem with police! I was there all day and was never bothered. Maybe I got lucky..

@@LeppAviation That's awesome! I'm going to go down there and try it then. Unfortunately, ATL has few decent places to watch anymore. There was a great place years ago on Loop rd at the approach end of 27 but the trees have grown too tall.

I was on a flight once where you could tell (feel and hear) the gear was down after takeoff for quite a while. Captain finally came on and said they had a temp sensor overheat on one of the wheels and couldn’t put the gear up. We flew like that for 10-12 minutes then you could hear the gear go up. No further issues (other than costing them extra fuel).
@fliegerj5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it had the range. We once hard broke a C-17 at Ramstein and they had to fly in a special Boeing crew (non-military) and they flew the plane stateside (Kelly AFB TX, I think) with the gear down and had to do seven enroute A/Rs. C-17s westbound were notoriously short-legged to begin with. We'd launch from ETAR empty for CHS and always had to make a gas-n-go at DOV or WRI.

Whether it’s Atlanta, Detroit, or wherever, I absolutely LOVE watching takeoffs from this angle! Please give us more. My favorite shot is when they are up off the ground, with their gear already up (or mostly up) before they pass the camera line. That way you catch a glimpse of them in the configuration in which they are really meant to be; sleek, streamlined, and haulin’ ass.😉

Lovely video! I like that Virgin A340, really funny with the gear down lol
@davidhoffman12785 жыл бұрын
Somebody mentioned something I had forgotten about. The gear is sometimes left down to cool the brakes and tires after long taxiing and braking operations were needed to get to the runway. A blown tire or blazing hot brakes is not something you want in the enclosed space of a gear well. One interesting issue is that sometimes idle thrust is so powerful compared to the friction working against the aircraft's forward movement that the pilots ride the brakes a lot as they taxi to the runway. That may send brake and tire temperatures into an unacceptable range for immediate enclosure by the gear doors.

Delta’s fleet is as old as hell
@LeppAviation4 жыл бұрын
A lot of their fleet is aging, but there are also plenty of brand new aircraft in their fleet. 737-900s, A321s, A350s, A220s, A330neos, and the incoming A321neo. I’d say about half, if not more, of Delta’s fleet is under 6 years old.
@gop4usa124 жыл бұрын
You know what's ironic about it? American Airlines has the newest fleet and the oldest cabins. When you step into a 25 year old Delta 757, you'd think it was a new plane looking at the seats and video screens. And one nice thing about an old fleet is you know the carrier will put more effort into maintaining them knowing they're going to be using them longer.

And btw ,you can hear cars going by and other jet engines idling over the MD-88s taking off ,which proves that aren’t so god damn loud like some people say they are. They are just a little louder than a CFM-56 powered 737 ,and can be heard a little longer after take off.

Last time I flew on a plane I flew out of Atlanta to Dallas and then to Tulsa. I remember standing in the terminal in Atlanta and counting the seconds between a plane landing and another appearing for a landing. All in all, it averaged about ten seconds. Certainly earns its claim as one of the busiest airports in the world.

I love this vantage point of the planes as they are taking off. Toooo much runway action, like in a lot of youtube channels that feature plane spotting, is not a good thing. You cut to the chase, and show the planes just as they are taking off, as well as showing them speed off into the distance. It really is awesome! The audio is very clear, to hear the mesmerizingly beautiful roar of the engines sending the planes into the sky!! Thank you for your better way of showing takeoffs!!!!
