Teshima is home to the world-famous Teshima Art Museum, which attracts many foreign tourists.
In fact, when I went to film this video, I saw 3 Polish people. The island is still visited by foreign tourists that way, even with the COVID-19 infestation.
I will reiterate the history of Teshima in this description.
Teshima has long been plagued by industrial waste problems.
In fact, a large amount of industrial waste has been dumped in the western part of the island by private companies since around 1975.
The number of industrial wastes amounted to 912,373 tons. At that time, Teshima was known as "Garbage Island”.
The impact of this industrial waste on the island has been enormous, and islanders have suffered for years from the stench, noise, and vibration caused by the waste.
However, the arrest of this illegal dumping by a private company by the Hyogo Prefectural Police Department caused a major social problem in Japan, and since then, Kagawa Prefecture has been working in earnest to solve the problem, which it had been reluctant to do.
In recent years, the removal of the wastes that we could see was finally completed, but there were concerns about soil contamination by the wastes.
However, as of October 2021, Kagawa Prefecture and the residents of Teshima agreed to terminate the disposal process due to groundwater contamination concentrations nearly meeting effluent standards.
The residents of Teshima have been fighting industrial waste for 42 years.
However, in recent years, solar panels have been installed on the eastern part of the island by a private company.
In this video I produced, you will be able to see the beautiful nature of Teshima.
I believe that the destruction of this beautiful nature is an unforgivable act.
I would be very happy if you would come and see the beautiful nature and scenery of this Teshima in the near future.😊
